The Refectory Restaurant & Bistro
Excellent dining and family experience. Eden was an awesome server! She connected well with my family!
The food and setting are amazing, but we wanted for at least 30 minutes between our soup and entree and then another good amount of time after desert for the check. The server was very attentive in the beginning and helpful with wine and food choices. But the service of the food itself was extremely slow and it affected an otherwise lovely dinner. We waited and waited for things.
Outstanding. The service, the food and the ambiance were all exceptional. The wine list is the best in Columbus. ( Although the wine prices are too high, that’s the only negative. ) Our server, Joseph, was absolutely spot on. The proprietor works the floor and is warm, friendly, engaging and humble. The bar tender was both attentive and gave us space to enjoy our romance as we had before dinner drinks. The drink prices are reasonable. The best single word to describe the food is divine. We had the beet salad which was amazing, the asparagus soup was the best we’ve ever had and our entries of beef and fish were marvelous. Highly recommend. Beautiful experience.
Lovely meal for our anniversary. Service very attentive.
We love celebrating our wedding anniversary at The Refectory. The ambience is wonderful and makes for a relaxing and enjoyable experience. The entrees are outstanding and always delicious.
The service is outstanding and makes you feel like a valued patron.
Best food in Columbus. Incomparable service. Perfect place to take someone if you want them to feel very special.
Lovely Mother's day dinner with family in the main dining room. Cheese selection was wonderful and so was the Salmon Rilette. Our servers kept us hydrated and attended to us often - much more than many restaurants. The entrees were wonderful and they even had some Gluten Free bread for Mom!
Fantastic food sand impeccable service. Everyone was great from moment we walked in to restaurant through departure. Very friendly and helpful staff. Thank you for a great meal and experience for Mother’s Day! Definitely will like to come back!
All I can say is that the Refectory never disappoints. The service on Mother'd Day was absolutely wonderful, I cherished each engagement I had with any of the staff. They were kind, courteous, attentive, knowledgeable, and above all else professionals. The food as with everything is amazing. Do not expect to go through dinner and wind up with an inexpensive bill. But that is not why you come to the refectory. I do tell people to plan on having a 2 hour dining experience as the chefs take their time, but due to the wait staff and amazing wine selection it goes by in the blink of an eye. The Refectory also houses some amazing one off events that should not be missed. I will absolutely be coming back.
We enjoy the Refectory for special occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays, and most recently, Mother's Day. The food never disappoints. The wine pairings are excellent. We would normally give the Refectory a 5 rating, but our most recent visit for Mothers Day 2019 had a couple bumps. The Pisco Sour drink was void of flavor (not flavorful like the ones enjoyed in person in Chile and Peru), but the cocktails we had at the bar before dinner were excellent. However, the bar bill was not transferred until a third request was made upon paying the check, which was irritating. Net:Net we would recommend this restaurant to anyone who truly appreciates gourmet food. The dishes are always excellent, and service timed well for flow of courses and beverage choices, which we have come to expect at the menu price points
C’etait incroyable. Amazing four course sophisticated French cuisine. My 14 and 11 year olds both loved it. The best cuisine in Ohio
This was hands down one of the best meals my husband and I have ever had. The food was incredible and the service was impeccable. Thank you to everyone at The Refectory that helped us have such a special evening!
The quality of service, food and attention to detail is outstanding.
Everything about The Refectory was perfect. Without question it is the best restaurant in Columbus.
Our server was fantastic and we had a wonderful dinner at the restaurant.
The Refectory will always be my favorite restaurant! I have not tried anything there that wasn’t exquisite.
Outstanding service, amazing food would highly recommend anyone wanting to experience high end dining.
The dining room is very comfortable and the stain glass windows just beautiful! We absolutely will return to try other dishes, already planning a re-visit with other family! Our menu choices included Sashima Tuna & Salmon w Herruga Caviar, Lobster & Shrimp Bisque, Scallops w Lobster filled Ravioli -- all i can say is WOW! Every course was fantastic and we finished with the Warm Pear Tarte - which besides being visually stunning, is absolutely to die for! Service was impeccable and this visit made celebrating my birthday, VERY enjoyable and special! Thank you!
First time to eat at The Refectory. Loved it! We were there to celebrate our son’s Graduation from College and the restaurant staff were very attentive, which made for a special evening. The food was exceptional and the staff were friendly and the service impeccable! Would highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion!
We were celebrating a birthday and the staff made this a very special occasion
Outstanding food, service, and ambience. A great family dining experience.
Wow, we were so touched by how everyone went out of their way to make us feel so special on our anniversary. What a wonderful night and our 5-year old had so much fun too. Thank you!
Tried and true fine dining in Columbus. The food was excellent, wonderful wine list, outstanding service by Sam (just the right balance of attentiveness). For a special dinner experience the Refectory always comes through!
Superb balance to the meal. Especially creative first and second courses (mussels/linguine and lobster tart) followed by a fine leg of lamb. Delightful dessert of chocolate and coconut dome. Wine pairings appropriate. All in all a good value accented by John’s attentive service. The education that Chris the sommelier provides is a real treat.
We try to go to the refectory at least once a year for a special occasion. Never disappoints. Food is amazing. Service is outstanding
Excellent food and service. At first my steak was over cooked. When they asked how my steak was, they quickly removed my plate, sincerely apologized, brought me a brand new plate and waited until I cut into it. It was perfect! To our surprise, they took it off the bill! We were all very impressed with every plate and look forward to our next visit.
One of the most balanced dinners we have enjoyed here. The Chef’s appetizer of mixed meats in aspic was delightful, very subtle and unexpected. Barramundi highly recommended, a complex dish of multiple flavors and textures, not a light choice. As always the scallops are a fine and reliable dish, a standard from the kitchen. Pear tart nicely caramelized, not always the case. Attentive care by Chris the sommelier was an educational bonus and should be an encouraged component of the evening.
The Refectory lived up to it's reputation as a top quality experience. We were warmly greeted at the door, and everyone made sure that we had everything that we needed. An excellent meal, with excellent service. We will return.
Can’t wait to go back... absolutely superb!!
Went there for Easter and one of the meats was a little chewy. The staff replaced it and were apologetic over the problem. They went out of their way to make it "right".
Have always loved this restaurant, the special menu provided more than enough dishes for each course, the time between courses was perfect. Excellent (standard) Mimosa and wine recommendations for the entree
The food was superb and the service was excellent. The presentation was beyond belief. The owner personally came over to greet the table and make sure everything was to our satisfaction, For the past 30 years this has continuously been the best restaurant in Columbus.
I have been going to refectory for 10 years and always enjoy refectory's menu and creativity. However all their main meat dishes became too salty for me started just last year so now I only order a combination of appetizer dishes. Still very good restaurant. Wish the main dishes can be improved. Also dont find the dessert as interesting as before.
We chose The Refectory for our anniversary dinner and it was the perfect setting! The location, the masterful creations and attentive service. If it weren’t for the fruit flies buzzing around, it would be hard to top the experience!
Nevertheless, we will certainly recommend the place and would go back again!
Our server, Eden, was excellent and very attentive. My wife had the lamb chops and I had the venison loin. Both were perfectly cooked and attractively served. Highly recommend this restaurant. Been coming here for 38 years and never disappointed.
We love this restaurant and the food and service are beyond compare. Very thoughtful and knowledgeable waitstaff. We love it so much, we are going there again in a few weeks.
We were there for an anniversary and they made it a memorable evening. Our table was reserved with a happy anniversary card. The salmon was absolutely fabulous. The seasonal vegetables were amazing and both dishes were works of art. The dessert was delicious and beautiful. We will fondly remember this anniversary dinner.
The Bistro menu is the best fine dining bargain in Columbus! High quality food , great presentation and interesting choices. Lisa was a fun and efficient server.
We need to go more often!
Absolute joy! We were seated at a table and the waiter was vsry attentive and friendly. The soft music and lighting was wonderful. For starters I ordered the Mussel soup and the flavor was outstanding. Suttle hints of mussel with a nice rich flavor amd tender cooked mussels. My boyfriend ordered a salad and was pleased. We then had a cheese board as we sipped on our drinks. Our main courses were the new zeland lamb and my boyfriend got the antelope and scallop wellington cooked to the chef's recommended doneness. It was like little cherubs dancing in my taste buds with every bite. The rich wonderful flavors and beautiful plating was amazing to say the least. This was our first visit but it won't be our last. The pricing is rather steep but worth every penny. You are truly treated as though you are royalty and the food left me in pure bliss. We were so full we could not eat deasert and given a complimentary dessert wine as the waiter remarked no one can visit and not have dessert. While it is not a place I could afford to frequent it is a place I would cherish for special occassions.
This is always one of our go to restaurants for a fantastic dinner!!! Love love love it!
