The Reef, originally called Comptons, was built by the Usina family on a beautiful piece of oceanfront property, owned by the family for generations, located on tranquil North Beach, three miles north of the Usina Bridge. Comptons opened in 1989 and enjoyed great success for the next ten years. It closed in 1999 due to the ill health of Mr. Compton and hurricane damage. There are few remaining true Oceanfront restaurants in Northeast Florida, and of those, The Reef, commands the most spectacular views. Sit at any table inside and the view is dynamic to say the least, or enjoy the recently rebuilt and expanded deck where you not only look out at The Ocean, you listen to it too as the waves break and the birds cry. To complement this vista Chef Denzel Aponte' has created a menu primarily of fish and seafood balanced with beef, poultry pasta and creative specials, always fresh and sourced locally whenever possible.

    We had a great dinner! The food and drinks were great. The salmon and prime rib were excellent and I had one of the best Old Fashions. Would highly recommend!

    The food was absolutely fantastic. The view was excellent. No music in the restaurant, I found that to be unsettling. I like background music when I’m out for a nice dinner.

    I have wanted to eat at The Reef to try it and especially because it’s on the beach with her beautiful ocean view. The view did not disappoint. The service and wait staff and food was excellent.

    We celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary. The Reef and the staff made our special day memorable. The food was outstanding! And our server had such great personality and her attention to details on point. Thank you for the complimentary desert for our Anniversary. We will be back!

    Very nice restaurant right on the beach. Has some parking available. Server was prompt and pleasant. We started with calamari which had a tasty breading of a bit heavier than i would have preferred. It was served with a hot sauce which was not my favorite but was good if you like that. I had the seafood pasta, which was flavorful with nice seafood portions and buccatini. My wife had a Mahi club, which was very good and came with a Caribbean slaw which was excellent with a touch of sweet. The island sauce on the Mahi was also an interesting and tasty addition. They even brought a free keylime pie for dessert, which was very flavorful.

    This is out second time here and is did not disappoint . We requested a window table as it was our anniversary. We got a great table and server.. Taylor was attentive , friendly and made great suggestions about the menu and what to choose . Lobster risotto was amazing and the crab legs were the best i have had! Fried cheese appetizers were amazing as were the brussel sprouts. Taylor topped the night with a complementary dessert for our anniversary.. key lime pie was perfect! We WILL be back!

    Amazing brunch- the portions are large and delicious! Great price for the amount and quality of the food. Sea view and mimosas make the experience even better. Loved it and will definitely return!
