The Reef, originally called Comptons, was built by the Usina family on a beautiful piece of oceanfront property, owned by the family for generations, located on tranquil North Beach, three miles north of the Usina Bridge. Comptons opened in 1989 and enjoyed great success for the next ten years. It closed in 1999 due to the ill health of Mr. Compton and hurricane damage. There are few remaining true Oceanfront restaurants in Northeast Florida, and of those, The Reef, commands the most spectacular views. Sit at any table inside and the view is dynamic to say the least, or enjoy the recently rebuilt and expanded deck where you not only look out at The Ocean, you listen to it too as the waves break and the birds cry. To complement this vista Chef Denzel Aponte' has created a menu primarily of fish and seafood balanced with beef, poultry pasta and creative specials, always fresh and sourced locally whenever possible.

First off our dinner was excellent. The issue was service. Our first server seemed great but he was ending his shift shortly and turned us over to someone else. This is when the problem started. It started out ok but got worse as the night wore on. She was always MIA. We were seated around 6:15pm. We had drinks and salad and then she disappeared. We saw bits and pieces of her but it was almost 7:30 until we finally flagged her down got her to take our dinner order. At 8:00 she came back to tell us our written order got wet and she didn't put it in???? 30 minutes later!!!! She took our order all over again . Manager offered a discount which amounted to $9 a person which is not enough to cover a cocktail... we got out of there at 9:30. FYI the table across from us changed people two times from the original diners They had a different waiter of course.

Reservation made 2 months ago, celebrated wife’s 65th & hoping for special evening for her. Really disappointed restaurant didn’t make any effort to help! Lousy seating, good table are for large noisy groups! Asked management for assistance & they didn’t make any effort! Great location on beach & view so that means their full & dont have to make any efforts on quality food & service!

Was just ok, service was good and food delivery was fast, parking wasn’t good it appears that people who visit the beach park there and the restaurant can’t or won’t stop it. Ambiance remained me of restaurants my grandmother would take me too with the same decor.
