The Reef (conocido originalmente como Comptons), fue construido por la familia Usina en una hermosa propiedad frente al mar en la tranquila North Beach, a unos 4.8 kilómetros del Usina Bridge, en un área que había pertenecido a la familia por generaciones. Comptons abrió en 1989 y gozó de mucho éxito por los siguientes diez años. Cerró en 1999 debido a la delicada salud del señor Compton y por los daños causados por un huracán. Quedan pocos restaurantes auténticos frente al mar en el noreste de Florida y de todos ellos el que ofrece las vistas más espectaculares es The Reef, el cual fue reinaugurado en 2002 bajo el mando directo de la familia Usina. Puede sentarse en cualquiera de las mesas interiores y la vista será siempre cambiante (por decir lo menos), o disfrutar de la plataforma recientemente ampliada en donde podrá no solo mirar al océano, sino escuchar además el romper de las olas y el canto de los pájaros. Para complementar esta vista el chef Bob Henle ha creado un menú compuesto principalmente de pescado y mariscos, el cual complementa con carne, aves y especiales creativos siempre frescos y obtenidos de proveedores locales en la medida de lo posible.

The service and food were great with amazing views of the ocean. It is a great place for any occasion. I had a birthday lunch with my parents. We had a great time!

Walking into the restaurant, the first thing that caught our attention was the filthy fish tank that had a distinct odor—definitely not the kind of welcome you’d expect! Even with a reservation, we were made to wait 15 minutes for our table. This delay only ended after I had to inquire about the status of our table, making it seem like we were an afterthought. Once seated, things didn't improve. We spent two hours at the restaurant, and it took long enough just to get bread that we almost gave up on it! Our first cocktail took a staggering 20 minutes to arrive, and by the time we jokingly considered ordering another drink, we were astonished to learn it would take another 30 minutes for the manager to bring it over. Our server seemed overwhelmed and forgetful, leading to an overall frustrating experience. One of our highlights—or rather lowlights—was when we finally inquired about our salads. They were an hour in coming, and we had to remind our server about them. To top it off, the Caesar salad was simple, with the dressing on the side. In summary, this was the worst meal and service I’ve experienced, far from the expectations set by glowing reviews. It really feels like the restaurant is riding high on its location and the view, but the food and especially the service do not match up to the hype. If you’re thinking about dining here, I’d suggest looking elsewhere for a good meal. Don’t let the ocean view fool you! 🌊

The Reef had great service, we were seated quickly, there was a great view of the ocean, and the food was excellent. We would definitely return!

I booked this for a very special occasion and requested a window table. I was told there was no window table available when we arrived and then were sat next to an empty window table. It was the end of the evening and nobody sat at the window table the entire time we were there. Then when we got our meal the fish was over cooked and inedible. I am so disappointed. This used to be my go to spot to take out of town guests. Oh and there was not a single word mentioned about the special occasion -and, yes, I did remind them when I checked in. Very disappointing.

We’ve been several times over the years always hoping things would improve . However, other than the view, this place continues to master the fine art of mediocrity. Food quality, service, cleanliness all average.

Always a pretty good experience. This time, Mahi-Mahi was somewhat dry and salmon was a little undercooked. Caribbean slaw is not my favorite. Regular cole slaw (creamy) would be a better choice in mu opinion.

We had a great dinner! The food and drinks were great. The salmon and prime rib were excellent and I had one of the best Old Fashions. Would highly recommend!

The food was absolutely fantastic. The view was excellent. No music in the restaurant, I found that to be unsettling. I like background music when I’m out for a nice dinner.
