Great food and service.
Beach views are amazing! Food was great - shrimp/lobster risotto and our waitress was awesome.
Went there to celebrate my husband’s birthday. On opentable when I booked, I requested outside seating and it didn’t specify anywhere that I couldn’t book for outside but when we arrived the host noted the outside is first come, first serve only and has a 45 min wait. Later, while sitting indoors, I had mentioned to my waiter we had booked on opentable for outside and he immediately noted he had space there and the outside section where he reseated us was entirely empty. Didn’t appreciate the host lying or rudely saying as soon as we entered outside is full. Otherwise, our waiter was wonderful and overall lunch experience by the beach was amazing. Food was good too. Will definitely return and hope we have a better service with the lady host next time!
Restaurant does not honor outdoor reservation.
Beautiful location and excellent food and service!
Their homemade strawberry vinaigrette was the best ever!
Simply incredible! Must go! Highly recommended!
Beautiful view outside!
We booked for Easter Brunch and were expecting the Sunday brunch Buffett (that’s normally excellent) as they typically serve. NOTHING was noted on OpenTable that no Buffett was being offered, even when you check the Sunday Brunch menu tab, it’s still showing Sunday Brunch Buffett. The food was sub par, was supposed to include a bakery basket, fruit, and a glass of Champagne when ordering a brunch menu item. We had to ask and the bakery item was a corn muffin and the fruit was a plat of cup of canned pineapple, never received the Champagne. They were out of biscuits and gravy. Not impressed! This used to be a very wonderful place to dine!! View is wonderful!
We went for Easter brunch and we always enjoy the Reef. I wish they could widen the windows a bit for a better view in that beautiful location.
We were moved tables during our visit
This was a special Family Dinner. Very disappointed overall with the table selection & ambiance. Our table was squeezed in a corner, very inconvenient to get in or out. No lighting on or around our table, and We all found ourselves finishing our meal in the dark !!
We asked for candles & were told there were none to be had.
Food was delicious! View is beautiful. Will definitely return.
The chowder was very good but our grouper villano was disappointing. The rice and vegetables were cold. It was an important event for us and we noted that on our reservation but it was not acknowledged. Our server was excellent but had too many tables. We have had very good meals at The Reef and a few not so good. We will try again just for the views.
The seafood chowder was excellent!! The fish & chips and fried shrimp were also done nicely. Overall, except for the noise, a very good experience and will return.
Our table of four all ordered fish for lunch. We went on Good Friday. We each chose a different fish and we were all happy with our meal. Very fresh fish well prepared.
Very good food and good service. But, if you have to sit inside as we did, Tje ambience is nothing special albeit some table mates might have an ocean view
My previous experience with The Reef was limited to the fabulous Sunday buffet I had attended previously, so we opted to have a regular dinner there.
The service was very good while the food quality was good.
The problem with the food was it was portion controlled and way too small for the price paid. I was looking at a 3-4oz Mahi Mahi. It tasted good but again was 1/2 what it should have been.
We love sitting by the ocean for lunch. The calamari appetizer was delicious. Also, had a Cesar salad with huge blackened shrimp... so good!
Great seaside location with a beautiful deck. Out in the middle of nowhere.
Great lunch menu of well prepared food; attentive service. Four dif entrees, all were enjoyed.
Only downside was a large party at table behind us...noisy but we should have asked for a dif table when being seated.
Always a nice place to take out-of-town guests.
Really good food and service. We ate outside. The could have done a better job of cleaning the table.
Once we were seated it took 22 minutes for the server to even come to the table to just greet us. We ordered bread, which you pay for, as well as drinks for the table. The bread never came to the table until the server was reminded after we received the entrees. The entrees were fine but nothing special the calamari was burnt and a small portion for the price. We mentioned the burnt calamari but nothing was done to replace. The atmosphere is nice but the service definitely needs some more training
The view from the outdoor deck is fantastic!
This our first visit after several drivebys. Had to wait 15 minutes beyond our reservation. Overall the restaurant was clean and sanitized. The server was a bit pushy trying to get our lunch orders in before his shift ended, but was attentive and prompt. The weather was perfect for outdoor dining. The view was amazing. The food was very good. Go during happy hour, discounts on drinks and appetizers.
Very busy place. Lot's of people without masks and not 6 feet apart during Covid-19.
It was very good - 3rd time back when we vacation in the area. The appetizers were very good as the meal and the dessert! Portion size allowed a tasting of all. I had the scallops - very good.
I gave this restaurant only one star because we never even got to eat there. We reserved through Open Table for a 2 PM outdoor seating table. When we arrived 10 minutes early we were told that we could not sit outside unless we were willing to wait at least 45 minutes. When we told the hostess that we had a 2 pm reservation that we made on Open Table she said No- they don’t reserve outside tables. Not even an I’m sorry. We had to leave because we didn’t have enough time to wait another 45 minutes to be seated. That is why we made a reservation in the first place.
I made the reservation and in special remarks said we were celebrating my mother’s 84th birthday. The restaurant is very bland and not pretty or decorated well. The hostesses wore flannel/plaid untucked shirts over black leggings. Not impressive and looked sloppy like the restaurant. The server had zero personality and seemed like he did not want to be there. No eye contact or simple conversation. Nothing was mentioned about my mother’s birthday. So I said we are celebrating her birthday. The waiter said happy birthday but didn’t even look at my mother. The food was bland and forgettable. The only highlight was that we were sitting outside overlooking the beach and it was a beautiful day. I mentioned to the hostess in the way out about my mother’s birthday and no how no one mentioned it. She said did you tell the waiter? It would have been nice if the restaurant read the notes and recognized her birthday without us saying so. She did ask us if we wanted a piece of cake to go. I declined. Would not recommend, plenty of other choices to go to.
We sat on the deck looking at the Ocean. Sun was shining, temperature was perfect and fun watching the Pelicans fly over.
The request for a table by the window ( which was made several weeks in advance via Open Table reservation ) was not honored although there were many empty tables available. It took about an hour to place our dinner order although the restaurant was half empty. During this long wait no bread and butter was offered while guests at surrounding tables were receiving this service. Frequent eye contact with the waiter did not expedite anything. When the food finally arrived , the entrees were brought so soon that the appetizers could not be finished.
This was my second time dining here at The Reef. Our waiter took some time to get our initial drink order but after that did an amazing job. The appetizers we ordered were the beef tenderloin and the spinach artichoke dip, both of them were absolutely amazing. The bread was warm and served with butter, it tasted great. Our only complaint would be that the food took a really long time to arrive. Thankfully, we had had appetizers so it wasn’t a huge deal but we waited nearly 45 minutes for our food. At the time that we ordered the restaurant was not that busy, but our waiter did come and apologize for the length of time it did take. Nonetheless, our dishes were served hot and tasted well.
The Reef is one of our go to restaurants in St. Augustine. As usual, the food was excellent - with the exception of the pate. It was too soft and not as tasty as usual. Our waiter was good, made sure our meals came hot and together.
Very bad experience
Very unprofessional waiters/waitresses and manager
Waited for 1 1/2 hour for appetizers- excuse is ‘ 200 reservations’ per manager
Very poor food quality
Would never come back
The host stand needs to get its life together. I read in another review that the hostess said they don’t reserve outdoor tables but in the app it definitely gave me the choice of an outdoor table, which was the only reason I chose this place! We are only dining outdoors due to Covid. Please, if the restaurant is reading this, either fix the available selections in the app, or educate the host staff!
Once eventually seated, we enjoyed the view and the food, although a regular server never visited. Somebody “filled in” with waters, then “has he come by yet? No? Well I can bring you drinks” then same with food.
Met friends at The Reef for lunch. Beautiful venue, excellent menu, food and service. Would highly recommend!
Great location and servoce
The food was excellent as was the service! Great location, off the beaten path from downtown, picturesque scenery right on the water! We will definitely be back!
The service could have been better. The shrimp and lobster risotto was grainy but had a lot of flavor. My husband enjoyed his Grouper.
Glad I used my open table to get an early reservation here - it was filled up the rest of the week. We had a good meal, especially loved the key lime pie.
Food and service was phenomenal! Everything was cooked to perfection. We felt very safe dining during COVID-19 with the precautions The Reef has taken. Our server Zach was great - very knowledgeable, courteous and pleasant. The views were beautiful as well.
