The service at The Red Horse was good but, the food was sub par. Our salad was wilty, the steak was under-cooked, and the mashed potatoes were dry. The oysters Rockefeller were small, dry and overcooked and the bread was not anything better than a cheap grocery store loaf. The restaurant has not updated since I went as a child. It is stuck in the 1980's. Disappointing date night.

A dated, but very clean Frederick classic. Clearly stuck in the 1980's decor, but well maintained and very well kept.

Food was prompt, well presented and very tasty.

The owners should consider a revamp, ditch the wood and old time chairs: keep the food and service.

Went here for Valentines Day, the ambiance was great and the food was superb!! The wait staff was good and the guys that fill your water were on top of it! I would recommend this place!

When the Red Horse was in Hagerstown MD. my wife and I loved it. We decide to visit the one in Frederick MD since the one the one in Hagerstown has closed. We drove an extra half hour to get to it but it did not disappoint

We had our first meal at Red Horse for my husband’s birthday. The appetizers were amazing (seared ahi tuna bites and shrimp cocktail). My filet mignon was very tender and cooked just right but not as flavorful as I’d hoped. I’m from Texas, so I have high standards for good steak. This was close, but not as good as steakhouses back home. My husband felt the same about the crab cakes: good, but not fabulous. It was really nice that they gave my husband a free dessert for his birthday. Service was attentive and we liked the quiet retro ambiance, so we might go back and try other items.

I think you would have to go pretty far to get a better steak. Always a very pleasant place. The open ceiling with all the wood is not only attractive, but seems to keep the noise down and the fireplace is quite inviting. The service is always good, but this night the busboys were really exceptional. Very professional and attentive without being the least bit intrusive. It seems like little detail, but when even the little details are taken care of so well, it really makes for a very enjoyable meal.

Fantastic food & great service! And Mondays are 1/2 price bottles of wine, so that was a bonus! Huge shrimp in the shrimp cocktail appetizer and a fantastic filet made for a great dinner.

Four of us had an early dinner there on a Saturday evening during the holidays. The oysters on the half shell were fresh and clean, the Caesar salads pretty average, the steaks and prime rib were declared very good. They were not busy when we were there so the servers were very attentive, the water glasses kept topped up, and the food came at an acceptable pace. The menu, while perhaps somewhat dated, provided tasty food and the service was friendly.

I will simply say that I'm sorry I waited so long to return to the Red Horse. From the time we walked in the front door to the time we left, we felt welcomed and appreciated. The service was outstanding and the food was equally as good. Everything was perfectly cooked from the tuna to the filets. We will certainly not wait as long to return. Thank you for a great evening.

Without question, this was the most expensive worst meal I have ever had. The calamari was undercooked and had no flavor. It came with an extremely watery substance in a cup that I assume was supposed to be some form of ranch dressing. They had serious guts uncharging the salads that came with the meals. They weren't edible even if they were free - especially the awful, awful "blue cheese" dressing that came with them. I have never in my life eaten blue cheese that didn't taste like blue cheese. My son's shrimp entree was atrocious. The shrimp, like the calamari, were undercooked and soggy. My prime rib came out on a plate by itself, swimming in a puddle of some sort of broth, and cold. The rib eyes other people in my party ordered were cooked well, but they had no flavor. Even the bread was flavorless. Truthfully, the only decent (not good) part of the entire meal were the french fries, and I'm guessing that's only because they were frozen from a bag and someone else was responsible for their flavor. The decor was dated and not appealing. I felt like I was in a run-down 1980s steakhouse with no redeemable nostalgia attached to it. Overall, a terrible meal that made me wish we had opted to get a sub to go at the WaWa across the street.

On the afternoon of November, 2 2017 my wife and I visited the Red Horse there was only one waitress working who apologized for being understaffed. We choose a window seat and regretted that choice because we spent the rest of our evening in the company of numerous flies and gnats. My wife and I both ordered steaks and baked potatoes.Both of our steaks were reasonably hot and cooked to order, but my potato was lukewarm and my steamed vegetables were actually cold. Including the tip we paid over $100.00 and drove an hour and a half each direction. I would have to say that after we considered everything we both agreed that the Red Horse did not live up to it's reputation. We will not be returning.

The food was way too expensive and did not taste very good. The menu selection was limited too. The service was good but that still did not justify the prices. The restaurant could use a facelift as well.

My folks and I were at the very well-known and historically excellent, Red Horse just this past week. We were there again this year, as we were last year at this time, to celebrate my birthday. My folks live in Rockville and were thrilled to go back to The Red Horse having had such a great experience the year prior. (It is hard to believe an entire year has flown by already.) Our server, Stephanie was excellent and extremely attentive to our needs and the evening with Mom and Dad was delightful. I have a funny feeling that we will be back there again next year :) Needless to say, we loved it! Thanks Red Horse for the carte blanche service!
