Great atmosphere and wonderful service! Came here for my husbands birthday and it was a delight!
Food is much better than other hotel restaurants. Ambiance is elegant with fabric tablecloths and candles. We were disappointed though because the wait staff refused to sing Happy Birthday to my birthday celebrant so we asked fellow diners to help us do so. And they did! Minimum 15% tip to the wait staff for their unkind gesture.
We came for a special occasion. It was wonderful. The food was excellent the owner of the restaurant came and greeted us and they brought out cake with a candle in it for our birthday boy.
I could not of asked for a better experience
The restaurant was lovely and the service was impeccable. The food was delicious with the sole exception of my fathers steak but our wonderful waiter took care of the problem expertly and made sure we were more than satisfied when we left.
Fantastic service, food quality and ambiance. As always! A sure bet for great steaks and seafood in Frederick!

The waitress was extremely nice and the staff was very attentive; however, the food and atmosphere was just not pleasant. We sent the appetizer back and our steaks were not cooked to order. The place is old and even smelled musty. The prices were extremely high for the lack of quality.

Always a good meal here. We came to celebrate Fathers' Day. Red Horse does well with beef and most of us had the rib eye steaks. Service was good, our orders were delivered accurately and the food was prepared properly. Quieter and less crowded than the chains. Come here to celebrate your next special occasion.
It was very dark inside; fortunately we sat near the window. The medium sirloin we ordered was cooked well done and the duck didn't have much flavor. This was my first time at the restaurant and, to be honest, my high expectations were not met. Service was excellent though.
The overall service was very good, and our waiter (Don) was excellent. The steaks were extremely tender, flavorful and cooked to perfection. Those in our party that had crab cakes and scallops said those were very good. The spinach salad was as good as it gets. Everyone seemed please with their food.
Conversation was easy, possibly because it was only half full. I had not been there for 20 years and felt comfortable with the ambiance, which seemed unchanged. Parking was easy.
We couldn't have asked for a better meal. Waitress was friendly and staff was very friendly. We were celebrating our 46th Wedding Anniversary so even though meal was little expensive, Well worth it.
I have had better steaks at Costco! Also I was told pink was medium rare and it came out half raw. We enjoyed the waitress and staff.
We've been coming to the Red Horse for special occasions for many years and have always had a delicious meal. This past visit was on Sunday and there were hardly any other people there. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. We'll continue to come here.
The prime rib was wonderful and so was the service! Colleen was a great waitress, paying attention to the smallest detail! Thank You!

Don was a fantastic server for our birthday celebration. The food was incredible. Filet and Ribeye was cooked perfectly! Looking forward to our next visit.
We came here for mother’s day dinner and to say we were disappointed would be an understatement. My parents used to come here frequently for a special occasion meal but they both agreed they would not be coming back in the future. Every time we placed an order, the waitress would come back and tell us they were out of something (mashed potatoes, calamari, cheesecake). I ordered a side salad instead of the vegetable and I’m glad as did as the vegetable of the day turned out to be two stalks of asparagus and then what looked like leftover green beans. Though it is worth noting that they forgot my salad and still had the nerve to charge a $4 substitution fee (which was not mentioned when I ordered). The ambiance also left something to be desired as they had bus boys breaking down tables and lifting chairs over our heads to move them to the next room. They did comp our drinks (after we had to ask given they were out of everything we ordered) but it was too little too late. We will not be returning.
Mother's day is always a balancing act. We had a large table. Our head waiter at times seemed to disappear but they had a great support team that helped fill in the gaps. The Apps were all on point. The cocktails were not only good but made as requested which on one is tough. Entrees were good, well seasoned. The shrimps were large. The steaks, their signature, were cooked spot on. The prime rib though was over cooked, that said they au jaus was not over salted which is a huge bonus. The cheese cakes and lava mess was a nice end. All that praise said Red Horse is quite pricey, but for special occassions, what does a little extra cash mean if you make two moms happy having thier family around the table for a good meal! Nicely done and thank you!
Went for the Prime Rib,but forgot it is weekends only.
Food was fine though a little pricey,
and it looks like they are in need of some marketing,
we where the only people in main dining area all night,
but have had the Prime Rib before and it was excellent,
so will be back for that some day soon I hope!
In some ways the Red Horse is a time capsule of the way nice family restaurants were when I was a kid. The decor and overall ambiance is circa 1977 with bad carpeting, wallpaper and knotty pine siding to complete the look. Thus, after we settled in, we were not expecting much. To our surprise, we had a very good meal with high-quality steaks that were well-prepared and delicious. They oysters were also very good (large and meaty local type) and the escargot was delicious (once a pinch of salt was added). The crowd there is pretty quiet and verges on the older side of middle aged, which may explain why they avoid a lot of salt in their cooking. Also, the bar is dated but solid and Don the bartender was tremendously good at serving drinks and food (very nice Perfect Manhattan with Jim Beam on the rail). Yes we will be back... we won't get overly dressed up, but we will have good steaks and seafood in a comfortable family restaurant.
Walked back into the 50's. Swinging saloon doors, wagon wheel chandeliers and a window allowing everyone to watch the grill master. Since we had steaks and chops, his work was critical. Loaded tater tots with spicy ketchup were just enough to start. Steak was tender and cooked just right. Garlic mashed were lumpy enough to be homemade with just the right amount of garlic. The vodka martini with blue cheese stuffed olives was perfect and the wine selection was adequate. Food and drinks were great but our waitress made it an overall enjoyable evening. She was friendly, efficient and helpful. We'll be back,
Very good "traditional" steak house. Not many of these wonderful places left. Large well-prepared steaks and chops served with warm bread and traditional sides. Western Decor. Highly recommended.
From the moment you walk in you're made to feel like you're an imposition on everyone there. For the outrageous price, I'd expect better service & friendlier people. You'll be sorely disappointed.
Nice service and setting. The portions were large and visually appealing. I would recommend that the steaks be better seasoned. They were tender and had a nice beef flavor. They just needed to have some pop to them.
Food is VERY overpriced. It's not that it's bad, but next time I'll go to the Outback or Texas Roadhouse and spend half as much to get a better steak. The sides were pretty unimaginitive for that price point (potato of choice and steamed vegetable medley). The place was nearly empty on the Friday night of Valentine's Day weekend, and it's pretty clear to me why.
Service was a bit slow also noticed the 2 table guys to grab empty dishes touch people on their backs didn’t think that was very appropriate to do due to some people nowadays are touchy when it comes to that other than that it was good would put sizes of steaks beside them to know what ur getting
Excellent place for Valentine’s night
The first thing we noticed is that it appeared to be overcrowded. We were seated next to the kitchen and so could hear all the server activities and conversations. It did not provide for a calm environment. We had ordered salads and did not receive our salads until after the entrees arrived. The server noted the problem and did offer to comp the salads. Both meals were barely warm and the medium steak was served rare! The steak was sent back to the kitchen but still was not good since it had no real flavor! Service was also very slow and had to request drink refills. Needless to say we were extremely disappointed since we have had excellent experiences prior! We have determined that in the future, Red Horse will not be a choice!
My husband and I have always enjoyed the food at the Red Horse. But for some reason, he didn't like his steak. We each got the rib eye on Valentine's Day. I liked mine -not sure what was wrong with his. Sorry.
Red Horse Fillet was delicious and about 2” thick, loved the wine as well. It was my 20th anniversary and the dessert was on the house! Great service and a table by the fireplace made our night perfect! I tipped the waitress $100. I’m definitely going back!
Steaks were great, but everything else was terrible. Vegetables were over cooked, backed potato came with no fixings and service was not good.
Biggest issue is if you don’t know to turn in at the hotel next door, and try driving up to the restaurant, there is no entrance and you are stuck on an entrance to a highway! It took our friends 20 minutes to get back to the restaurant.
My sirloin was very good. My friend did not like the prime rib very much. My wife thought the scallops were good.
The waitress was great. Nice seat near the fireplace.
Great filet mignon and black cherry duck breast! The oysters Rockefeller were delicious, too. Perfect ambiance for our anniversary dinner.
Tessa was our server and did a great job. No pressure, let us enjoy our drinks (also excellent) and took good care of us.
Terrible management with mediocre food. Not worth the price
