The Red Hen Cantina - Napa
Mom was very happy that we got to celebrate with her at such a nice place & friendly service!
We had a nice dinner for Cinco de Mayo, food was good and margaritas were yummy. It was fun but wanted to hear music in conjunction with the celebration. We had a very nice waiter. Karen
The beans and rice had no authentic taste. The margaritas were served in soda pop glasses and tasted bland.
Good food and lovely outdoor patio
I had not been to the Red Hen Cantina in years. We thought it would be good to give it a try. I ordered the Crab/Shrimp Louie and a side of refried beans. My hubby had a taco and enchilada. The server brought my husband’s order and set a shrimp/crab cocktail in front of me and walked away. At first I thought maybe my husband had ordered it. I called the server back and explained that I had ordered the “Shrimp/crab louie with thousand island dressing” and that it was a green salad. He brings a salad with what was either ranch ir bleu cheese dressing. I ask him “Is this thousand island?” in case for some reason theirs is white. He brings back thousand island. The crab is brown. It is cheap lump crab and worse yet it smells old and fishy. I cant bring myself to eat it. I had my husband smell it and he concurred with my concern that it may be bad. The price for this salad is $24.99. After smelling the crab, my husband could no linger stomach his own meal. He and I frequent local restaurants in Napa frequently. I have never received such poor service or food. Needless to say we will not be returning. The server took the salad and we were not charged for it. He did not ask me if I wanted anything else. I had refried beans for dinner. Honestly, I thought the beans were good.
It was more American Mexican than Mexican but definitely hit the spot and our waiter was great!
We had a large party and were seated promptly. Service was excellent and food portions large and tasty. Very nice experience
This was the perfect lunch before wine tasting/touring! Delicious food, good proportions and great prices! I will definitely be back next time I'm in Napa
The service was fast. The food was good American Mexican food.
Food was excellent large portions don’t need a reservation
Good authentic Mexican restaurant with excellent service.
Food varied by dish. The tacos were very flavorful; the tri-tip fajitas were very bland. Service was very slow... it took 40 minutes to get our food and a long time to get our check. Cute outdoor patio.
Food was excellent. I would NOT recommend a frozen drink- no frozen margarita machine- i had to send it back for on the rocks. My chicken and shrimp quesadilla was delicious!!
Food and service was good. Busy street for seitting outside.
When traveling, one compares familiar dishes to Restaurants they frequent at home. I ordered my usual, the chili relleno, and found it to have an unpleasant flavor (Like cold storage funk)... couldn’t eat it. My husband didn’t have any objections to his meal, and I filled myself on rice beans and chips, so I didn’t try for a replacement. The service was pretty good so, to be fair, I believe they would have tried to satisfy me had I asked.
It was great as usual especially when Sergio is my waiter!!!
Outstanding. We enjoyed our lunch. Good and service were great. We will revisit Red Hen again next time in Napa
My food was disgusting. I was expecting a grilled chicken breast in a white wine sauce with mushrooms and green onions. What I got was a tortilla bowl filled with chunks of chicken in a separated white sauce with some cheese thrown on top. It was bland and had an awful texture. It was gross. After a couple of bites I let my waitress know that I didn’t enjoy the meal at all All she asked me was if I wanted dessert. I paid my check, left the Res Hen and went somewhere else for dinner. Overall, I thought the prices were reasonable except the food wasn’t good. Would not return.
We were on vacation and arrived 10 minutes before the kitchen was closing and so did about 10 other patrons immediately after our party. Initially, our arrival caused some panic, I believe staff had been reduced for closing. However, once the staff recognized the situation, they rebounded well and the experience improved dramatically. Everyone enjoyed their meals and all were reasonably priced.
Hostess was friendly and welcoming; server was attentive and accommodating; food was *excellent*: perfectly done scrambled eggs, perfectly crisp bacon, perfect hashbrowns.
Food was just so-so. The quesadilla was not very good, while the crab enchilada and chicken mole were good.
The service was inattentive throughput the evening.
Also, it took 45 minutes to receive our meal.
We will return to enjoy the very good food, but the service will need to improve for us to become regulars.
The restaurant wasn't that busy but the service seemed to be a bit slow or finding the waiter when you needed something was a bit of challenge.
Food was okay at best. Not bad but nothing mind blowing. Overall a bit bland.
Great food! Nice quiet place!
Brunch for my mom. Waitress got lost. Not really her fault, bad management.
I stopped in here with my film crew for an early morning pre-work breakfast. GREAT service, wasn't crowded at 10am on a Sat. but the food was great, our waitress was super friendly, food was good, we were served quickly. Very attentive with coffee refills and we were needing caffeine!
Food was not bad. Stevie our waiter was awesome. We liked the pepper bacon appetizer.
fresh, good Mexican food. Lots of choices...kid friendly and big bar scene. Happy servers and hostess, made us feel very welcome. Will be back.
Service was very good, very friendly waiter! Food is mediocre at best, and a very watered down version of Mexican flavors. Maybe a nice spot to grab cocktails and an appetizer, but would not go again for dinner.
Great service. Poor atmosphere. Food below expectations.
There different pieces of music could be heard playing at once. Which kind of described this place. They don't know who they are. A rowdy bar or a restaurant.
Music from the resturant section classic rock. Music from the kitchen different....and the same with the bar music. No management oversight or with any clue of how to run this place.
Please stay away for dinner.
Was kind of quiet and weird vibe
Great outdoor seating area! Even in winter and rain
Lunch at 11:00AM was very quiet. I believe we were the only diners at this hour. Later another group of four arrived. This is a large restaurant with extensive outdoor dining for when the weather is warmer.
Televisions tuned to sports channels are everywhere.
Great friendly service and great food. Banana split is delicious!
The service was excellent as was the food. Great location with friendly staff.
If the fancy places are booked or you just need some good Mexican food and a cold beer this is your spot!
I requested a table away from drafts. They had no notes about that. Food was not spicy and we don't eat really spicy food. Chicken tamal I ordered had two pieces of chicken in it. needed more sauce. Not made in traditional manner, but in a pan and cut into servings. husbands enchilada just ok, needed more sauce. They could do a lot more to make their food interesting and flavorful. We won't return. Server was pleasant.
Great place to take a break from gourmet Yountville and enjoy great classic Mexican
Has been on my list for some time, finally had an opportunity to visit for dinner and found it to be great food and great spot to eat; will return again.
