The brunch at Red Fox is amazing. My go to place in Middleburg. The food is fantastic and the service was great.
They also have some uniquely Virginia options like fried green tomatoes and peanut soup.
Brunch with girlfriends
Red Fox Tavern is a romantic, quaint , charming place.
My significant other had a chicken cordon bleu and I had a grilled salmon . He loved his dish . Mine was mediocre . My salmon tasted insipid in spite of the balsamic dressing . Honestly nothing to write home about . On the other hand ,their Brussels sprouts were delicious and so was their mashed potato .
Service was outstanding . Will try brunch next time .
Will definitely be back. It is a lovely ride and this is a very inviting place .
very courteous efficient wait staff- unobtrusive intervention when wind blew table umbrellas, upturning some guest tables
Old-time Tavern atmosphere. Our waiter was Bradley who was efficient and helpful. We had no worries about the sides that came with the entrees ; basically whatever you like and whatever combination --- you can have it. Great food and atmosphere. My wife and I very much enjoyed our time in both the town and at the tavern.
Love the redfox inn! Kyle our server was amazing. The service is always top notch. The quality of the food is to die for. The chicken cordon bleu is my absolute favorite. My boyfriend likes the short-rib and we both love the crabcake appetizer. Will definitely be back!
An enjoyable way to celebrate a 60th birthday...
We've been to the Red Fox Tavern many times and we especially love brunch. Their Eggs Benedict are perfection and we order them every time. RFT NEVER disappoints. Service is first class, food is first class, and the ambiance is second to none.
I was disappointed that the rack of lamb is no longer available on the regular menu. That was by far my favorite choice of menu items and I’m not quite sure why that was removed but quite honestly I surely would be more likely to return if it was back on the menu.
The Red Fox Inn is an excellent restaurant to dine. It is great for special occasions and a nice date. Their food is exceptional and so is their service. I wish they would add the fried chicken back to the regular menu. I had to ask for it. It is the best item on the menu if you are looking for something other than steak. Great place to dine.
Wonderful atmosphere, menu selections, quality of food and service. Love coming here.
Superb! The BEST! Enjoy every visit to the Red Fox Inn! Perfect! Home Run! Thank you!
First visit, excellent dinner. Great food, service and ambiance. Will be back.
Red Fox remains a stellar destination restaurant. Though for us, it is all local and we are grateful to have this fine dining spot in our community. I have been coming here since my teens. There may have been some rough edges in the past but for the last few years, the Red Fox has been on top. The lamb, the fish, the crab cakes are all outstanding. The bartender knows how to make even the most specialized drinks. Lovely wine list with some Virginia vintages featured. And of course, the atmosphere cannot be beaten. We recently sat by the fire with friends, a nice bottle of Cabernet and ruminated on life. It does not get much better than this.
This beautiful restaurant is historic and cozy. The food was delicious and had a lovely presentation. The appetizer I had was quail and it was delicious. The entree I had was the lobster and crab; Absolutely delectable. They had a great wine selection. They had local wines that were good. Brad was an excellent waiter, knowledgeable and attentive. Also the bartender was extremely knowledgeable about the local wines. We enjoyed it tremendously!
Great service from start to finish. A trifle expensive but that is ok as The Fox is probably the best pub/restaurant in the area.
Excellent brunch & visit.
We went for Sunday Brunch. It's a very pleasant drive into the country from our home in McLean and Middleburg is nice quiet town with good shops. We really like the ambiance of this 1700's vintage restaurant. It's nice and quiet and the atmosphere is special. When it's warm you can sit out on the patio and we've enjoyed that. The Sunday Brunch is expensive ($48/person) and while the food is fine, it's not particularly flavorful or special. Example - crab cakes, while full of crab meat are plain; and you get only one for your order. We'll go back because it's just a nice place to eat and a nice afternoon out; but we wish they're put some more flavor in their meal. Oh, and service was fine - nobody rushed us - but again nothing particularly out of the ordinary. BTW, they're only open for Brunch Sundays until 2PM. Make reservations ahead of time.
Everything about this place was amazing! My party and I arrived 30min early and it turned out they weren’t even open yet! But they took us in gave us coffee and hot chocolate until they opened! Wonderful food and a beautiful place! I can’t recommend the Red Fox inn more!
My wife and I had a wonderful dinner and are looking forward to eating here again!
The ambiance is magical. I felt transported to the 18th century. I could imagine the colonists coming in for refuge on a blistery cold Virginia winters night, seeking some warmth and respite with a hearty meal and an ale.
The lanterns still flicker in the olde glass windows and the fireplace makes shadows that dance on the wall. You’re brought a warm plate of delicious food that warms your soul more than it does your belly. It is so exquisite that It almost makes me forget about the redcoats that are quartered At my farmhouse.
Anyway. That’s what it’s like to eat here!!
Dinner while on vacation
I've been dining at the Red Fox for over 40 years and the experience now is just as comfortable and pleasant as ever. The atmosphere is rustic "hunt country," the food is traditional country inn fare and the service is very friendly.
Red Fox Inn was amazing!
My best experience yet. As a singleton, I am often overlooked, when I have nothing better to do than to compare my service level with that of other tables. In this case, I felt I was treated as a valued client. My meal was perfect : fried green tomatoes, special lobster and scallop dish, snd the pear dessert. My server helped me find a nice beer, and as a non-beer expert, I couldn't help much. But we found a drinkable (which is a compliment from me) bottle selection, and all was perfect.
During our overnight stay at the Red Fox Inn we had dinner at the Tavern. Our server greeted us and was very helpful with the menu. We found some good choices on the wine list that went well with our meals. The salads were very appetizing and our entrees delicious. The dessert menu was tempting but we were stuffed. Our waiter did a superb job.
With our stay we also had a very filling breakfast. As with our dinner the service was excellent.
Unfortunately it was very very loud due to a party next to us. The ceilings are low and walls are stone. Normally this would be a great ambience. In our case our rather expensive meal was completely disrupted by a large group that was more suited for a bar rather than a $200 dinner for 2. We really didnt enjoy the place. If you have luck like this there is no escaping.
My former neighbor from Vermont was on her way to Florida via a road trip so we met up with my daughter for dinner. She really liked it as well. And Vermont is loaded with restaurants everywhere so we wanted her stay in Virginia to be special. Food was really good and the noise level such that we could easily have conversation unlike other places where you can't hear yourself think!!
Loved this place! It was such a romantic setting and the food was fabulous.
Never disappointed with the food and service! The servers are always knowledgeable regarding the food and drink selections and the downstairs servers are the absolute best!!!
We sat at the bar for a bit before being called to our table. The lady at the bar was super friendly and made a wonderful drink. We were then seated by the fireplace and the service was very attentive, and not rushed at all. Very nice meal, with attention paid to what one of us was able to eat. We will definitely come back.
Loved this place!!
Two dinners this weekend... both outstanding in all ways presentation was particularly good ,duck with fantastic coating over wild rice with asparagus sauté .... halibut over mushroom risotto and unique sweet potato linguine unique combination .... can’t say enough as to food quality , service and atmosphere.
Wonderful food. Great service. Historic building. Comfortable setting. Large portions.
Would certainly return.
It was a chilly, grey evening, but we were greeted warmly and seated next to the blazing fireplace. What a great start to the evening, and the remainder didn't disappoint. We started with the appetizer of the day, then settled on the rockfish special and the melt-in-your-mouth braised short ribs. Everything was divine! We finished with ruby port wine and carrot cake. A wonderful, relaxing evening in a quiet, romantic atmosphere. Leave the kids at home and enjoy an adult night out. This place doesn't disappoint!
My delicious crab cake served over grits and grilled asparagus was fresh and plentiful; the bloody mary was spot on. We were served in front of the fireplace on a chilly, rainy day. It was perfect.
Birthday brunch with three generations. All ages thoroughly enjoy coming here semi-regularly for a wonderful pre fixe brunch on Saturday. Service and food are always great and love the building. A favorite spot!
We had an excellent brunch at Red Fox Tavern! The atmosphere is very rustic and cozy. We arrived right as brunch service started, and the dining area was pretty quiet. Later in our meal, it filled up and got a bit louder. Our server was very attentive and friendly; he provided exceptional service. The food was delicious - the date salad was seriously good, and the biscuits and gravy were better than straight out of my grandmas southern kitchen. It was a great experience and we’ll certainly be back again!
The Red Fox Inn has always had very good food but it is now at the gourmet level.
I live in the area and the Red Fox has always been a “go to “ place for celebrations or where you take out of town guests to give them la taste of local history. The food has always been reliably good and the service was hit or miss. With a addition of the upstairs tavern area I’d hoped for a slightly less expensive, more everyday kind of place. The food is better than it has ever been - really good. The service has become outstanding - you feel really well taken care of and welcome. The prices, however, are just a bit too high to make it a place you’d go frequently. A limited “by the glass” wine menu with $15.00 being on the low end. Their “pub fare” menu is too short - needs more choices in the $12-18.00 range to make this somewhere we would go after an event or day of racing. I applaud the food and the service - just wish the upstairs was more “everyday” prices.
