The Red Fox Inn & Tavern Ratings and Reviews
The Red Fox Inn and Tavern is one of our favorite places to dine for special occasions. The food has always been good, but this time, it was exceptional. You know those places that have overly attentive waiters? This is not one of them--the service was excellent, but not bothersome.
My spouse and I enjoyed a Christmas brunch at the Red Fox Inn in Middleburg, VA. With the snow falling outside it was nice and cozy inside. Their apple turnovers as a starter were so good we almost stole more from the table next to us. I had a cup of hot cider (a bit on the high price at $8). We had our own shrimp cocktail as an appetizer. My husband had the fried green tomatoes eggs Benedict, the only downside was the English muffins were a tad too crispy. I had the fish and chips which was so large I brought half home. For dessert I had the chocolate torte covered with raspberry, rich but delicious. My spouse had a Bloody Mary to cap off his meal which had a shrimp, olive and peppercorn as garnish. We recommend this place for others.
This was our first time actually having dinner at The Red Fox, and we were blown away. I had requested a table near the fireplace DONE. I had the Rockfish dish and it was OMG. We are heading back for their Christmas Eve Dinner which sounds amazing, and we cannot wait!
We stayed at Salamander Spa & Resort and went here for dinner on our first night. Service was impeccable and drinks were yummy. Menu was full of familiar comfort food but with just enough of a twist to be interesting. Food was very good but not mind blowing. I recommend the duck wontons.
Had a great experience for our anniversary. The food was great, the servers attentive, and the atmosphere was very romantic. Would definitely visit again.
We ate: shrimp and grits, peanut soup, butternut squash soup, half duck, fried chicken, and the carrot cake. The only item that we weren't especially in love with was the carrot cake- seemed like it was a thawed/premade cake
We had a great meal.
Tasteful, well prepared and served on warm plates so temperature was good.
Our server, Kyle, was very professional and helpful. Portions were quite large --
I could have eaten 1/2 of what was served and been very full. Make sure your are hungry!
The room was fairly crowded with tables, but the layout was such that we didn't feel like we were sitting with another party. The room was a little too warm for us. A cool breeze would have felt good. (warm food, lots of people).
Highly recommend a visit.
We had great service, the ambience is worth the trip alone, and the food was terrific but overpriced. The menu is somewhat fixed and you are limited to your choices, which I'm not a big fan of. I would love to go back and would bring out of town guests because the atmosphere is terrific, but would probably look elsewhere because of the cost and the menu's limitations.
Made reservations through open table for Friday lunch. However nothing was written clearly that it was a prefixed brunch. I think $48 per head is steep. The choices were just ok. They made us put a credit card down since the reservation was for 8. However 40 minutes prior to the reservation they left me a voice mail that I needed to call back to confirm. I didnt get the message right away so it made me nervous that I was going to lose the reservation, but still have to pay. When I called back I asked them why they called to confirm the reservation when I was told a no show would charge my card for all 8 at $48. They said it was “ procedure”. From a customer point of view, it was completely unnecessary and confusing.
The real jewel in the crown was the service. Friendly and willing to go the extra mile to make experience memorable. One recommendation for something different would be the bread basket... savory biscuits, corn muffins, etc. with sweet spreads would give the guest the option to control the sweet factor. This is especially helpful when choosing the entreé with dessert.
It was the first time for us visiting Middleburg and stayed at the Red Fox Inn and wanted to have dinner there as well. The atmosphere was great and loved the decor. Our server, Kyle, was very attentive and easy to deal with . The person who filled the water glasses was very good as our glasses were never empty and we never had to ask for refills. Food was delicious and good portion size which surprised us. We would definitely come back again.
The Red Fox Inn has been a favorite since 1977. It never fails to impress both the dining as well as the lodging. Very impressed with the complimentary a la carte breakfast for guests at the Inn. Don't change a thing ... except bring back lunch during the week.
Tasty, traditional American menu. Standouts for me were the shrimp and grits appetizer (far tastier than expected) and a cup of Virginia peanut soup. Lamb chops were succulent, perfectly cooked, absolutely delicious. That said, the lamb's accouterments -- lumpy, too-dry mashed potatoes and under-seasoned kale/mushroom sautee -- left something to be desired on a $40+ entree.
