This is an atmospheric space with nice decorative touches. The staff were friendly and very attentive, really first-rate. But the food is generally too heavy, too loaded with sauce and butter and salt. We were there for a "celebration dinner" that was prix fixe, and the food prices were high, although not out of reach. The wine pairing, however, was $75 and consisted of a glass of sparkling wine, two small half-glasses of dinner wine, and a small dessert wine; it seemed over-priced and under-generous. If we were to return, I'd order simple food and buy by the bottle.

But let me emphasize, the people and place were nice.

The Red Fox Inn is a Middleburg, VA classic in that it's warm, serves great food, with a country feel. We went for post-Valentine's weekend, which still served the Prix Fixe menu. We ordered 4-courses each and enjoyed every item! We were fortunate to sit by the fireplace, not too hot, not too cold. The server was sweet, attentive, but knew when to give space.

Certainly want to go back again when it's the regular menu.

Love this restaurant. We go there once a year for Christmas (yea we were really late this year). It fall on Valentine's weekend so there was a set brunch menu when we went. It was Fabulous! The 3 courses were spectacular -- and all went together well (of course you have choices of what to order). Planned on carrying the desert home, after a bite, but it only made it into my stomach! OMG I was so full, but the whole experience was fulfilling! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this restaurant!

Very quaint little restaurant with outstanding service. We had the four course meal and everything was delicious. Was a little bit overpriced for the four course meal but not so bad that we wouldn’t return! All in all it was very good food and recommend for a date or special occasion.

From the moment we arrived we felt as if the experience was only for us. The staff was friendly and very courteous. We were seated in a quiet area but not sequestered alone.

Our server was polite and genuinely concerned that we have a wonderful time. She answered every question we had and was glad to let us know her favorites when we asked her. From the moment she greeted us until we said goodnight we felt as if we were her only table.

I honestly do not know where to begin when describing the food. I can say that it was the best food I have ever tasted in a restaurant. I am no world traveler so I do not know how my palate compares to others, but it was simply amazing.

My wife and I both had the three course menu since it was a special event for the Valentines weekend. She started with their peanut soup. It was fantastic. No other way to describe it. I enjoyed the goat cheese and date salad. It also was wonderful.

The next course was her crab cakes and my salmon. I knew that would be an opportunity to try something that I would not normally order. So I chose a dish that included goat cheese grits and sweet potato fettuccini. It was out of this world. The fettuccini went so well with the salmon that I feel they were made to go together and the goat cheese grits just topped it off perfectly.

So not having enough room but knowing it was coming we welcomed dessert. She enjoyed the creme brûlée cheesecake and I had the salted caramel vanilla crunch cake. Paired with a cup of coffee each, we could have sat there enjoying that dessert until that told us it was time to close. It was that good and we did not want it to end.

So I would give this rating a 10 stars out of 5 if it were possible. If you are looking for an incredible evening of food and ambiance then please make plans for a visit to the Red Fox Inn in Middleburg, VA. You will not be sorry and before you finish your meal you be looking forward to the next time you visit.

Consistently great food and service! Incredibly fresh seafood and perfect filet, we love the four course dinner with wine pairings. This is our go to restaurant when we stay at the Salamander.

This has been one of our go to places but our Valentines dinner as a disappointment. The meal was just OK, but for the high price it was just not a good value. We will continue to go but only if we can order off the regular menu. Make sure you go on a nice evening in late Spring, Summer or Fall and make reservations to eat outside on the patio. Still a favorite place to go but not with a set fixed price menu.

Been going here for 15 years primarily for weekend brunch. Brunch meal choices are 80-percent lunch. Used to have great omelets and need to bring them back. Great atmosphere, professional and accommodating staff , and convenient parking. Provide more breakfast options and it will help. Thanks for a great occasion.

I would love to give a better review of this restaurant. The building is beautiful and the food is delicious. However, the service is sub par. Even though my reservation was at 8:30, we still had to wait 20 minutes for our table. The bathrooms have stupid drawings on them instead of clearly marked labels (yes, there are teeny tiny brass plates at the top of the doors, but they are not easily read). The tables are very small and cramped. The server was not very knowledgeable about the menu, nor wine selections.

Consistently excellent restaurant experience that my family and friends always look forward to and enjoy. In addition to the great food and innovative (without being annoying) menu, the RFInn exudes an undeniably warm, enthusiastic energy. Whether sitting near a fireplace (this time) or on the lovely outdoor patio (summer) -- we always find just that right spot at the Inn to enjoy its finest and have never been disappointed. Bravo as always!

We visited the Red Fox Inn on Saturday at 1pm. They were serving brunch which was excellent. We started with the blood orange mimosas (Yum!). They served a basket of danish that our daughter loved. We had great salads (beet salad and caesar). For main course we had fried chicken, the chicken avocado melt sandwich, and my daughter had chicken fingers. The mashed potatoes with the fried chicken were particularly yummy. Everything was really excellent. For dessert we got the pecan pie (yum), the caramel crunch cake, and the cheese cake. The crunch cake was so much better the next day heated in the microwave (tasty and moist), but was a bit flat in the restaurant at room temp/chilled. The cheesecake was average. While the desserts tasted so much better at home heated, than they did in the restaurant, I give this one 5 stars for the great food, service, and super cozy atmosphere.

The food was wonderful - we each used that word for the fried green tomatoes, scallops and crab cakes.

While the food was great, it was the attentiveness of the staff that really sets this place apart. We were served expertly and felt very well card for.

A lovely experience.

Dinner at the Red Fox Inn was charming and delightful. I felt like I stepped into another world when I walked through the doors of the charming dimly lit restaurant. The ambience and the paintings on the wall told a story about the horse and hunt world that Middleburg has been known for, but the surroundings should not take anything away from the incredible food that was served. Every bite of my Cordon Bleu was delicious. I could not stop eating until it was all gone and I was still scrapping the plate. My husband ordered the melt in your mouth Short Rib, equally fantastic. We didn’t order any appetizers because the entrees were significantly large, and the warm bread basket was already filling. I was a little disappointed with the dessert. We ordered the Salted Caramel Vanilla Crunch Cake. It was good, but there was nothing impressive about the layered cake after having such an amazing entree.

Food was excellent but the serving sizes were way too large. Each entree could easily have fed two people. Service was excellent. Dining room was so dark we had to use flashlights to read the menu. Brighten it up!

Our main courses were very good, but some details were lacking, like good bread and well-carbonated tonic in our cocktails. The service and ambience were excellent, however, which made the restaurant a great place to visit.... just not necessarily for the food.

The Red Fox Tavern lives up to its reputation for great service and ambiance. Our party of four had the 3-course Holiday brunch. The selections were good and we each were pleased with our choice of appetizer, entree and dessert. We would have enjoyed a bit more elbow room around our table, which was in a corner next to a cupboard decorated with pretty porcelain dishes. The atmosphere encourages quiet conversation, but the closeness of the tables in the main dining room could present a problem if a group of diners was overly gregarious.

Good halfway meeting point for a Holiday Brunch with DC friends. Since it was a special brunch menu, I had the peanut soup (my favorite), fried green tomato Benedict and vanilla caramel cake. All were perfectly fine, but my friends raves about the skirt steak and shrimp and grits. It was a lovely setting and the service was perfect for our catch-up visit.
