The Red Fox Inn & Tavern Ratings and Reviews
From the moment we arrived we felt as if the experience was only for us. The staff was friendly and very courteous. We were seated in a quiet area but not sequestered alone.
Our server was polite and genuinely concerned that we have a wonderful time. She answered every question we had and was glad to let us know her favorites when we asked her. From the moment she greeted us until we said goodnight we felt as if we were her only table.
I honestly do not know where to begin when describing the food. I can say that it was the best food I have ever tasted in a restaurant. I am no world traveler so I do not know how my palate compares to others, but it was simply amazing.
My wife and I both had the three course menu since it was a special event for the Valentines weekend. She started with their peanut soup. It was fantastic. No other way to describe it. I enjoyed the goat cheese and date salad. It also was wonderful.
The next course was her crab cakes and my salmon. I knew that would be an opportunity to try something that I would not normally order. So I chose a dish that included goat cheese grits and sweet potato fettuccini. It was out of this world. The fettuccini went so well with the salmon that I feel they were made to go together and the goat cheese grits just topped it off perfectly.
So not having enough room but knowing it was coming we welcomed dessert. She enjoyed the creme brûlée cheesecake and I had the salted caramel vanilla crunch cake. Paired with a cup of coffee each, we could have sat there enjoying that dessert until that told us it was time to close. It was that good and we did not want it to end.
So I would give this rating a 10 stars out of 5 if it were possible. If you are looking for an incredible evening of food and ambiance then please make plans for a visit to the Red Fox Inn in Middleburg, VA. You will not be sorry and before you finish your meal you be looking forward to the next time you visit.
This has been one of our go to places but our Valentines dinner as a disappointment. The meal was just OK, but for the high price it was just not a good value. We will continue to go but only if we can order off the regular menu. Make sure you go on a nice evening in late Spring, Summer or Fall and make reservations to eat outside on the patio. Still a favorite place to go but not with a set fixed price menu.
Been going here for 15 years primarily for weekend brunch. Brunch meal choices are 80-percent lunch. Used to have great omelets and need to bring them back. Great atmosphere, professional and accommodating staff , and convenient parking. Provide more breakfast options and it will help. Thanks for a great occasion.
I would love to give a better review of this restaurant. The building is beautiful and the food is delicious. However, the service is sub par. Even though my reservation was at 8:30, we still had to wait 20 minutes for our table. The bathrooms have stupid drawings on them instead of clearly marked labels (yes, there are teeny tiny brass plates at the top of the doors, but they are not easily read). The tables are very small and cramped. The server was not very knowledgeable about the menu, nor wine selections.
Consistently excellent restaurant experience that my family and friends always look forward to and enjoy. In addition to the great food and innovative (without being annoying) menu, the RFInn exudes an undeniably warm, enthusiastic energy. Whether sitting near a fireplace (this time) or on the lovely outdoor patio (summer) -- we always find just that right spot at the Inn to enjoy its finest and have never been disappointed. Bravo as always!
We visited the Red Fox Inn on Saturday at 1pm. They were serving brunch which was excellent. We started with the blood orange mimosas (Yum!). They served a basket of danish that our daughter loved. We had great salads (beet salad and caesar). For main course we had fried chicken, the chicken avocado melt sandwich, and my daughter had chicken fingers. The mashed potatoes with the fried chicken were particularly yummy. Everything was really excellent. For dessert we got the pecan pie (yum), the caramel crunch cake, and the cheese cake. The crunch cake was so much better the next day heated in the microwave (tasty and moist), but was a bit flat in the restaurant at room temp/chilled. The cheesecake was average. While the desserts tasted so much better at home heated, than they did in the restaurant, I give this one 5 stars for the great food, service, and super cozy atmosphere.
The Red Fox Inn is a favorite special occasion destination for our family. It was my wife's birthday; we continued our day with a brisk country drive. Lauren did a great job serving, the ambiance was great as was the food. Thanks for a excellent experience. Bill P
The food was wonderful - we each used that word for the fried green tomatoes, scallops and crab cakes.
While the food was great, it was the attentiveness of the staff that really sets this place apart. We were served expertly and felt very well card for.
A lovely experience.
Dinner at the Red Fox Inn was charming and delightful. I felt like I stepped into another world when I walked through the doors of the charming dimly lit restaurant. The ambience and the paintings on the wall told a story about the horse and hunt world that Middleburg has been known for, but the surroundings should not take anything away from the incredible food that was served. Every bite of my Cordon Bleu was delicious. I could not stop eating until it was all gone and I was still scrapping the plate. My husband ordered the melt in your mouth Short Rib, equally fantastic. We didn’t order any appetizers because the entrees were significantly large, and the warm bread basket was already filling. I was a little disappointed with the dessert. We ordered the Salted Caramel Vanilla Crunch Cake. It was good, but there was nothing impressive about the layered cake after having such an amazing entree.
Our main courses were very good, but some details were lacking, like good bread and well-carbonated tonic in our cocktails. The service and ambience were excellent, however, which made the restaurant a great place to visit.... just not necessarily for the food.
The Red Fox Tavern lives up to its reputation for great service and ambiance. Our party of four had the 3-course Holiday brunch. The selections were good and we each were pleased with our choice of appetizer, entree and dessert. We would have enjoyed a bit more elbow room around our table, which was in a corner next to a cupboard decorated with pretty porcelain dishes. The atmosphere encourages quiet conversation, but the closeness of the tables in the main dining room could present a problem if a group of diners was overly gregarious.
Good halfway meeting point for a Holiday Brunch with DC friends. Since it was a special brunch menu, I had the peanut soup (my favorite), fried green tomato Benedict and vanilla caramel cake. All were perfectly fine, but my friends raves about the skirt steak and shrimp and grits. It was a lovely setting and the service was perfect for our catch-up visit.
We went for the Christmas Eve 5 course dinner and it was definitely the best meal of my life well worth the 165 bucks a person! The food is pricey but actually really fantastic not hoity-toity weird rich people food.
The ambiance was very cozy and intimate and they never make you feel rushed or unwelcome. Very easy going but attentive and polite wait staff as well. Would highly recommend for date nights or special occasions.
We very much enjoyed the food here. Each entree/meal was stellar and the wine pairings were also quite good. Their understanding of Celiac (gluten free) needs was a little lacking, with a few mistakes (crackers came out on the plate, not being sure of corn starch was gluten free) but they were quick to fix and I did not get sick (I'm very sensitive to cross-contamination). The ambiance was stunning and my husband and I truly enjoyed our meal. On par with good meals in Aspen, Vail, Switzerland, etc.
My husband and I kicked off our Christmas vacation with dinner at the Red Fox Inn...it was wonderful, the ambiance was warm and cozy, dinner was wonderful and Bradley, our waiter, truly added to our experience. A wonderful way to spend an evening or a winter afternoon.
