The Red Fox Inn & Tavern Ratings and Reviews
Kyle was one of the best waitpersons we have experienced in our many years of dining out. The food was delicious and the wine recommendation was stellar: Cloudline Pinot Noir. The one minor issue was that there was sweeping up of the floor of our dining room when we were still eating. I mentioned it to the manager and she corrected immediately, as well as buying us dessert. Certainly, a way to have us recommend highly The Red Fox Inn and Tavern in the future.
Very nice colonial inn and tavern. The brunch menu had a nice range of breakfast and lunch choices, with a two or three course brunch option. Any two of appetizer, entrée and dessert or all three respectively, plus sides. Mixed drink menu, wine list and standard beverage service available.
Simply fantastic! Brittany the bartender and Jonathan the server took phenomenal care of my friends and me. Brittany even made a “custom” mojito just as I requested. I celebrated my 50th birthday at Salamander resort and had dinner at Red Fox. The crab cakes were good and the duck wings were SUPERB!!! We’ll definitely be back for another great dining experience.
The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The food was excellent. Interesting daily specials and delicious chocolate torte dessert. Excellent selection of wines. Historic building with much character. I would definitely recommend it for special occasions. Pricey.
My wife and I enjoyed an amazing dinner and dessert at one of our favorite restaurants, The Red Fox Tavern. Our appetizer - the twisted pretzel with dipping sauce - was great. She had the goat cheese salad with dates for dinner, and I the chicken avocado melt sandwich. Both were outstanding. For dessert, we split two choices: the carrot cake and the vanilla hazelnut crunch ice cream. They were delicious!
We all had truly tremendous meals at our gathering. Everything was beautifully prepared and beautifully presented. The Inn is a wonderful, historic place, which has been offering great food, locally-sourced for many, many years. We try to visit as often as we can, and we've never had a bad experience. In any season, the menu is fresh and inviting. I can't recommend the Red Fox Inn Tavern highly enough.
The service was less than I had hoped it would be. We were seated by a very friendly person. Three of the four water glasses were filled. It took quite a while before we saw a server. It was another 15+ minutes before we got drinks. Our order still wasn't taken. Drinks were dropped off and the server left again to wait on another table. Once our order was taken the food came in a timely manner. Drink refills were good, but weren't always done by our waiter. Once we provided payment, we waited about 10 mins before the server came back with our credit cards. Altogether we were there almost 2 hours for brunch on Sunday. Food was good. We sat outside and it was perfect. The service could have been better. We would still come back.
The service was excellent and the waiter was very attentive. The salads we ordered (Wedge and Date Goat Cheese Salad) were outstanding. We loved that they had different sizes of salads to fit your appetite. The house cab was very good. The truffle fries were outstanding. The New York Strip steak was average. The Bourbon Pecan Pie was outstanding. The steak was a good but a bit of a disappointment given how great everything else was. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the history of the place. Overall a great place to have a special meal or a date meal.
I have been going to Red Fox Inn for over 20 years which probably says it all with regard to my opinion. To date I have NEVER been disappointed with the food or the service. It is not inexpensive but I feel the value matches the price. This most recent dinner was no exception. The filet, even though medium, could still be cut with a fork indicating a great cut of meat. My wife's halibut was done to perfection as well. Just a wonderful dining experience.
My husband and I went here last night for our 5th wedding anniversary. We had both been looking forward to this dinner for a couple of weeks and we were both disappointed leaving. We ordered the shrimp and grits for an appetizer, which was delicious- but spicy. He ordered the fish special which came with a risotto that was good, but the veggie noodles were way too salty. I ordered the Braised Short Ribs with mashed potatoes and carrots; and my mashed potatoes and carrots were both cold when they came out. The waiter we had never came to check on us or refill our water. We had both planned on ordering drinks with our dinner and were never able to do so. When one of the wait staff came to finally give us some water, they reached over my food with the pitcher of water and condensation fell all over my food. (They should have walked behind my seat to refill my water, to avoid this problem.) I finally asked the hostess, after waiting probably 10 minutes, if I could get a to-go box for my food. She said of course and asked if we wanted the dessert menu. We said sure, since it was our anniversary. We ordered the Salted Caramel Vanilla Crunch Cake and wow, what a disappointment. It was bland and tasted like something you could get from Costco. They never brought my leftovers back, so I asked our waiter, who we finally saw after being there about an hour, where my leftovers were and he said oh they were in the back since our table was small. My husband and I both thought that was kinda odd, but within minutes the waiter brought the food out in a bag- kinda like he had no idea where it was. Than we waited again a while for him to bring our bill and to check out. We both felt that we could have gotten a better meal and service if we had gone to say Outback. This was our first nice dinner since moving to the area and we won't go back or recommend.
Staying at a nearby hotel and found this gem of a restaurant nearby. Friendly greeting on arrival and a clean and welcoming restaurant. Had a great server, Brent. Had challenge with the menu as so many good dishes to choose from! What a great dilemma to have! Dinner rolls served warm and choice of side, starter or entree portion sizes to choose from on the salads which was great.
As an entree had the schnitzel and spatzle which was absolutely delicious, though a very generous portion. They do pride themselves on generous portions. Creme brûlée for dessert; heavenly.
We enjoyed the experience and food so much that returned a second time. Would definitely recommend a visit to anyone visiting the area and would visit the area again just to dine at the Red Fox Inn.
I enjoyed a lovely birthday dinner with family and friends. The service was outstanding, our server was wonderful. All the courses were very good. I had the bourbon glazed salmon with goat cheese grits and squash fettucini as a main course. My suggestions are: tone down the seasonings on the fettucini or eliminate them and don't pile the food on top of each other, the seasoning used for the squash cross contaminated the grits and the bourbon glaze from the fish got into the grits. For my palate, the mixing of the flavors didn't work.
We really enjoyed everything about our visit to the Red Fox! We arrived early (as planned) to have a beer at the upstairs bar ... the beer selection is FANTASTIC and the bartender has recommendations based upon what we were looking to drink. Our dinner was really wonderful ... we enjoyed appetizers, mains and dessert. In early September, we thought the dessert menu would have some local fruit options (apple pie, peach pie, etc.), but no. So ... we asked if they had any fruit ... and they brought us wonderful vanilla ice cream with perfect strawberries.
The service was casual, fun and excellent. We always try to make the evening fun for the servers and they then have fun with us too. We loved it there and definitely will return!
Unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed in the food. Our appetizer was delicious as was our salad, but both our main dishes were not good. The crab cakes were plentiful and the food accompanying them was good. The meat in the cakes was all lump crab, but the meat did not taste fresh at all. They had a very fishy taste to them. My husband had Rock Fish. The fillet was mostly brown meat, as opposed to a nice white fillet. He returned it and they were very accommodating. The second piece was all white meat. I'm hoping we were there on an off night, seafood wise, for them.
