The food was amazing as always. My husband loves the shortribs, and the crab cakes are consistently delicious. The prices seems to go up every time we go (especially on the beef dishes), but the food is consistent and the setting is historical and quaint.
I first did Mother’s Day brunch here with my family. I was pleasantly surprised that my husband picked out such a great restaurant for mother’s Day. We do a lot of tasting menus/fancy restaurants and for the price this one fits in nicely with our routine when we want to be more laid back. The food is really great and the atmosphere feels more like a little get away. I loved it so much I brought my girlfriends out here a couple weeks later and they enjoyed it as well.
Country Inn restaurant serving outstanding food for the area.
Cream of asparagus soup and roasted beet salad and pear salad were terrific starters.
The chicken cordon bleu was too much presented with the brussel sprout leaves and pancetta and mashed potatoes. The bourbon glazed salmon over grits was exceptional.
Special desserts complimented the wonderful dinner. We will return.
I have yet to be disappointed when visiting Red Fox Inn. The food and service are always good.
We always enjoy staying at, and dining in, the Red Fox Inn. This time, we did not like our room at all (sparsely furnished and decorated, with constant street traffic noise), but our meals were all outstanding. The rainbow trout was excellent, the dessert (cheescake) was excellent, even the bread was surprisingly good. The peanut soup had a hint of a burnt taste, but was still good. Another first-rate dining experience.
We returned for our yearly visit to the Red Fox Inn and had a wonderful meal for their Mothers Day special. The food and service was great although I did miss some of the entrees on last years menu that included a crab meat omelette. However the new choices were fine and we plan to return again soon.
Fantastic from start to finish!
As always - OUTSTANDING.
In a "town" and building that speaks to the rich history of our country.
Red Fox was amazing. The food was perfection and service friendly beyond measure.
Loved the relaxed and cozy atmosphere of this place. Service was attentive yet let us have re relaxing date night we wanted. There were several interesting menu items. I had filet mignon and my husband chose crispy duck. The sides on both dishes were not as great as the mains. There was a good selection of Virginia wines, something we always appreciate.
Great food, service, and environment. Our waitress was wonderful. The parking in the rear is great. Definitely the best food in Middleburg, VA.
Always a great meal and great ambiance! Thanks!
Absolutely delightful from start to finish - amazing salmon, fabulous salads, brilliant filet, sautéed mushrooms were heaven. The service was outstanding and the ambience made the meal even more wonderful! We’re here for 4 days and I have no doubt we’ll have dinner here at least once more!
As usual, we had a delightful time. Food, service, and ambiance all great. One of our favorite restaurants anywhere!
Familiar food prepared in new ways. Peanut soup is a fave. Had glazed duck on whole grains with asparagus; carrot, squash & sorrel soup; bourbon pecan pie with ice cream & whipped cream. Delicious! Service was attentive with great suggestions. Great local ingredients & wines. We ate early so it was quiet. Also has a great bar & is an inn so you can stay there too. Historic building is from colonial times.
The brunch at Red Fox is amazing. My go to place in Middleburg. The food is fantastic and the service was great.
They also have some uniquely Virginia options like fried green tomatoes and peanut soup.
Brunch with girlfriends
It was my birthday and it was the second time we've been there for a birthday celebration just the two of us. We always opt for the rack of lamb.
Red Fox Tavern is a romantic, quaint , charming place.
My significant other had a chicken cordon bleu and I had a grilled salmon . He loved his dish . Mine was mediocre . My salmon tasted insipid in spite of the balsamic dressing . Honestly nothing to write home about . On the other hand ,their Brussels sprouts were delicious and so was their mashed potato .
Service was outstanding . Will try brunch next time .
Will definitely be back. It is a lovely ride and this is a very inviting place .
very courteous efficient wait staff- unobtrusive intervention when wind blew table umbrellas, upturning some guest tables
Old-time Tavern atmosphere. Our waiter was Bradley who was efficient and helpful. We had no worries about the sides that came with the entrees ; basically whatever you like and whatever combination --- you can have it. Great food and atmosphere. My wife and I very much enjoyed our time in both the town and at the tavern.
Love the redfox inn! Kyle our server was amazing. The service is always top notch. The quality of the food is to die for. The chicken cordon bleu is my absolute favorite. My boyfriend likes the short-rib and we both love the crabcake appetizer. Will definitely be back!
An enjoyable way to celebrate a 60th birthday...
We've been to the Red Fox Tavern many times and we especially love brunch. Their Eggs Benedict are perfection and we order them every time. RFT NEVER disappoints. Service is first class, food is first class, and the ambiance is second to none.
I was disappointed that the rack of lamb is no longer available on the regular menu. That was by far my favorite choice of menu items and I’m not quite sure why that was removed but quite honestly I surely would be more likely to return if it was back on the menu.
The Red Fox Inn is an excellent restaurant to dine. It is great for special occasions and a nice date. Their food is exceptional and so is their service. I wish they would add the fried chicken back to the regular menu. I had to ask for it. It is the best item on the menu if you are looking for something other than steak. Great place to dine.
Wonderful atmosphere, menu selections, quality of food and service. Love coming here.
Superb! The BEST! Enjoy every visit to the Red Fox Inn! Perfect! Home Run! Thank you!
First visit, excellent dinner. Great food, service and ambiance. Will be back.
Red Fox remains a stellar destination restaurant. Though for us, it is all local and we are grateful to have this fine dining spot in our community. I have been coming here since my teens. There may have been some rough edges in the past but for the last few years, the Red Fox has been on top. The lamb, the fish, the crab cakes are all outstanding. The bartender knows how to make even the most specialized drinks. Lovely wine list with some Virginia vintages featured. And of course, the atmosphere cannot be beaten. We recently sat by the fire with friends, a nice bottle of Cabernet and ruminated on life. It does not get much better than this.
This beautiful restaurant is historic and cozy. The food was delicious and had a lovely presentation. The appetizer I had was quail and it was delicious. The entree I had was the lobster and crab; Absolutely delectable. They had a great wine selection. They had local wines that were good. Brad was an excellent waiter, knowledgeable and attentive. Also the bartender was extremely knowledgeable about the local wines. We enjoyed it tremendously!
Great service from start to finish. A trifle expensive but that is ok as The Fox is probably the best pub/restaurant in the area.
Excellent brunch & visit.
We went for Sunday Brunch. It's a very pleasant drive into the country from our home in McLean and Middleburg is nice quiet town with good shops. We really like the ambiance of this 1700's vintage restaurant. It's nice and quiet and the atmosphere is special. When it's warm you can sit out on the patio and we've enjoyed that. The Sunday Brunch is expensive ($48/person) and while the food is fine, it's not particularly flavorful or special. Example - crab cakes, while full of crab meat are plain; and you get only one for your order. We'll go back because it's just a nice place to eat and a nice afternoon out; but we wish they're put some more flavor in their meal. Oh, and service was fine - nobody rushed us - but again nothing particularly out of the ordinary. BTW, they're only open for Brunch Sundays until 2PM. Make reservations ahead of time.
Everything about this place was amazing! My party and I arrived 30min early and it turned out they weren’t even open yet! But they took us in gave us coffee and hot chocolate until they opened! Wonderful food and a beautiful place! I can’t recommend the Red Fox inn more!
My wife and I had a wonderful dinner and are looking forward to eating here again!
The ambiance is magical. I felt transported to the 18th century. I could imagine the colonists coming in for refuge on a blistery cold Virginia winters night, seeking some warmth and respite with a hearty meal and an ale.
The lanterns still flicker in the olde glass windows and the fireplace makes shadows that dance on the wall. You’re brought a warm plate of delicious food that warms your soul more than it does your belly. It is so exquisite that It almost makes me forget about the redcoats that are quartered At my farmhouse.
Anyway. That’s what it’s like to eat here!!
Dinner while on vacation
I've been dining at the Red Fox for over 40 years and the experience now is just as comfortable and pleasant as ever. The atmosphere is rustic "hunt country," the food is traditional country inn fare and the service is very friendly.
Red Fox Inn was amazing!
