The Real Macaw Ratings and Reviews
Menu for Restaurant Week caught my eye and The Real Macaw was the Real McCoy! Just ordered one of everything for me and my wife and we shared. Nice bottle of Cote du Rhone to add to the enjoyment. Looking forward to a return visit to enjoy the regular menu.
This place defines “neighborhood gem”. It’s a great small out of the way place with excellent food and great service. Everyone was attentive and super friendly without the pretentious attitude of 5th Avenue. They even had live entertainment that wasn’t too loud but was a great accompaniment to a fantastic evening.
The Real Macaw is pleasant and service was excellent. We had a bit of trouble with the menu in that the combination if ingredients were a bit confusing. My husband had the “encrusted” salmon and it was not a good taste for that fish. The mahi mahi im phylo dough was the wrong fish for those ingredients. We would have preferred some local fish, i.e., grouper. The baked chicken was excellent, however it would have been preferable to have seafood options that we could have chosen.
We had a wonderful dining experience overall. The outdoor dining was too noisy due to the musicians speakers. Also, it was a little buggy outside and the area could have been sprayed for bugs a little better. For evening dining, I would recommend eating inside.
Very good crab cakes .. sauteed in butter with a wonderful sauce, nicely flavored rice and organic baby carrots. This restaurant has two different buildings .. to the left outside tables and interior bar/dining. To the right a separate building decorated " key west style" with colorful interior, fan-shaped wicker chairs and lots of plants. In this building they only serve from the formal menu, no casual food. During the off season they offer a two-course menu ( nice mescaline salad with cranberries and entree) with house wine for $25, a good value. Our only disappointment was that they did not have the french, three- onion soup. Although it is on the menu, it is only served in season. We will return.
My husband and I visited this restaurant off season and I must say it was pretty good. My husband had the Bermuda Triangle Onion Soup which was delicious since the Chef used three different types of onions. Quite frankly it was outstanding. He also had the duck that was extremely tender and tasty. I on the other hand had the Crab Cake which was good but ordered the Down Island Chicken which I did not like. The waiter recommended it but I am not a fan of kielbasa which it had and some brown sauce I didn't care for either. Overall the food was very good however I ordered the wrong entree. Overall I would recommend this restaurant and will go back since they have a great bar menu as well.
We have been to a lot of restaurants in Naples, but The Real Macaw had consistently great tasty food, good portions and reasonably priced! It's definitely a Key West/ Caribbean atmosphere! I'd say the food is as good as if not consistently better than restaurants such as The Turtle Club and Truluck! The owner Jean is supper nice!
The duck was delicious and I would probably order it again when I return. The vegetables were a great combination with the moist tender meat and crispy skin. Perfect! The tuna tartare as a appetizer was also quite good. I like the atmosphere as being causal and tropical looking with a nice looking table setting. The service was also quick, friendly, and very accommodating.
We loved the food. My husband is hard to please but is anxious to go back to The Real Macaw and has been recommending it to others in our community. He had a pork dish and thought it was great. I do not eat meat so had a phyllo-wrapped mahi. It was delicious. Next time we probably will not have soup, as we could not finish our dinner and really wanted to try dessert but just could not manage it.
As always, Real Macaw was a wonderful dining experience! David, our server, was friendly, informative, & very attentive to our needs. The menu is different from most other places around...some very creative dishes. And the funky, upbeat, happy atmosphere we always find there just makes it a special place to spend time!
If you think you have seen everything in Naples, you haven't until you have been to the Real McCaw. A diamond in the rough! Service is excelent, food is fantastic, and an owner that values customer service. Old Florida/island decor - unique unto itself. Recommend the chowder, calamari, duck, & island chicken.
