The Ram Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
As Disney's Thumper once said, "If you can't say something nice...."
I'll cut my review short and merely suggest that the Sun Valley Resort take full advantage of their shut-down for remodeling to also train (perhaps retrain) their guest-facing staff to a standard of greater excellence in service. While the food was terrific, and the atmosphere is being restored (shut-down between Labor Day and mid-December 2017, we're told), the time to improve the human side of the guest experience is abound. Our satisfaction with recent dining experience in the food category as well as our curiosity and confidence in leadership will propel us past the poor service received. In December, we'll give them one more try. Let's get it right this time!
Our only issue was that we needed to designate an outdoor table when we made Open Table reservations. This wasn't clear on the website. The manager gave us a table by the window but only after we had to express our displeasure after being made to feel we were at fault and being told they wouldn't accommodate us with a table by the window. We're used to getting nice tables when we use Open Table and these reservations were made 3 weeks in advance. Overall, our evening was very nice. Our server was fabulous and very friendly.
The Ram was very busy Saturday night and I understand how things can get a little crazy. But they were very accommodating and gracious. The host was very outgoing and informative, very lively. We always love it there.
We are hoping for future dining that they will add a fondue option for the entree portion of the menu. This is why we always go for their delicious fondue. Currently, it is only offered as an appetizer and the portion you receive is too small if you are ordering as your main course. So it's really like fondue for one.
But that is all that I could be constructive about. Otherwise it's amazing. The atmosphere is so wonderful and nostalgic.
We hear that a major remodel is coming this Fall to the Sun Valley Inn and we hope they don't change it too much. Hopefully they keep the same feel and atmosphere while updating.
A jewel of a restaurant right in the heart of Sun Valley. The fresh grilled peach burratta with nuggets of pistachios was a delectable starter. One of us has the signature ruby trout which was tender and served with light butter sauce , accompanied with local greens and veggies. The filet with the local and loaded baked potato. Steak was juicy and prepared with the crisp outer layer and flavor inside. The baked potato was truly baked, and filled with goodies
Dessert was amazing trio of chocolates surrounded by local ice cream to share.
Interesting wine list with an abundance of top NW wines - we had a Walla Walla vintners cab- a nice find!
This classic restaurant appears to be part of the Sun Valley Inn (not the Lodge) and has a Swiss chalet appearance. On the June evening of our visit, the outdoor seating was closed due to threatening weather and gusty wind, so when we arrived and asked to sit outside, we were the only ones outside. The wind had died down, and the evening was pleasant. Our servers and their helpers were unusually attentive and helpful. We enjoyed classic Swiss fondue, an arugula and peach salad, and a local brook trout entree. Our server fired up the gas heater to make our evening cheerful as it started cool down and get dark. Pleasant views of the village green and myriad blooming flowers near our table made for a special evening with friends. The interior of the restaurant was very busy and noisy, so we were delighted to be seated outside in relative quiet with just the sound of birds and the nearby carillon serenade. Highly recommend.
I was attending the film festival and was visiting Sun Valley for the first time. It is a bit spendy, but we enjoyed sitting in a booth and looking out over the small square. The service was very sweet and accommodating, and there was live piano. I made a song request which was promptly honored. The decor was a bit shabby chic and very cozy. the bar next door was also nice to sit in. Both are in the lodge, but make a reservation at the restaurant or you can get a drink and wait in the bar for your table.
Over all very charming!!
On December 10th we celebrated 41 years of dining at the Ram. The menu has always been local and fresh, the service is always top notch and the fondue is the best and most fun starter you will ever have. Dining outdoors in the summer on the terrace is not to be missed.
We went for fondue but the waiter talked us into the 2 for 1 entrees. Good news: the new menu is great and the food was terrific( try the pork chop- our group picked it as the winner) . Also, the service was very good, although really slow. The bad news is that $50 for a tiny filet is still way too expensive for the Valley in general.
The Ram is wonderful. We ended up dining there twice over the weekend because it's so good. This has been our anniversary destination for many years now.
Cindy is amazing! They are very accommodating to our needs. It is, and will be, a must stop for us every time we will be in Sun Valley!
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and needed a special dining experience. The Ram at The Sun Valley Resort fit our requirement. The service was excellent, the seating was perfect (outdoor on the patio) the menu had lots of variety. Both our meals were outstanding. We definitely would recommend The Ram, and will return soon.
Beautiful evening seated on the outside deck ringed by flowers and surrounded by the mountains of Sun Valley. Food was delicious with plenty of choices...fit for a foodie.
Service was first class from the manager to the wait person to the busser.
Would highly recommend.
We only saw our server two times all throughout the night. My drink order was forgotten by our server and the manager had to get it for me. Also we were served steak and were not given a steak knife to cut our food. Again the manager had to get us steak knives. The bussers and other staff were very attentive to us all through out the night. The manager was doing her job as well as the job of the servers. The servers need to be trained better in attending to the guests. Food was absolutely amazing! Hats off to the chefs for such wonderful and yummy food.
The very best part of our experience was the live music! Fantastic! The setting is beautiful! Service was slow and inconsistent. Portions were extremely small especially relative to the price. One of our filets was improperly prepared and had to be sent back twice which really detracted from the experience. We will not be going back anytime soon, unfortunately. This used to be one of our favorite spots to dine when we're in the area.
Summer dining at the resort in Sun Valley is always a bit of a compromise. Menus are fairly predictable (though Cheese Fondue in August sounds a bit odd) but the ambiance makes up for it. Our group of 8 were headed to a concert so we dined early and that may also have flavored the "meh" reaction of most of the diners when served. Wines were excellent and nicely served and presentations were pleasant but there was little lip smacking and offering of tastes across the table as is usual with this foodie group. We will be back, of course, as the Ram is an old friend and fondue in February sounds far more appealing.
Young man working the hostess stand was disagreeable and short. Offered us the worst table in the restaurant while the entire place was completely empty. He was very resistant to our request for a different table right up to the point when we threatened to leave.
