Very disappointed in our meals. Pasta dish very dry, shrimp flavorless. Prime rib tasted like an overcooked steak. Baby back ribs chewy, far from fall off the bone. Mashed potatoes good. Salads good, but we didn't know they were family style. Server was very nice.
I recommend the wedge salad.
Went here on Easter not realizing it was a special buffet menu. Being vegetarian, we weren’t sure there would be a lot of selection but we were pleasantly surprised. Also, when we discovered that the vegetarian pasta dish on the menu had been changed to a pasta dish with meat, the waiter asked the chef to make us the original dish listed on the menu. Good deal for the price.
Our experience was exceptional. Seated quickly and although busy, we did not have any waitstaff issues. The food is stellar here. I had the Bison short-ribs...what are they marinated with??? Absolutely divine. Have you seen the TWENTY ONE page wine-list? Our 7 person party had oysters, salads and most of the entrees...everything was truly delicious. Go ahead, make a rezi and enjoy!
It was a Wednesday night and we had a reservation and they told us before we were sat their computers went down they were catching up and food was taking 40 minutes. We understood and were ok with that but they were completely understaffed and after 20 minutes with no water or a waiter to greet us we left. They should have stopped seating if they couldn’t handle it.
I left a lousy review a couple of years ago when our waiter disappeared for 90 minutes. Literally. Service has been good since, and food is good.
Great wholesome food!
Our experience was not good. It was freezing inside. We all wore our ski coats during dinner. The food took forever to arrive. We were about to walk out when it finally came out about 50 minutes later. Order was wrong on multiple accounts. Waitress was very nice but they were clearly understaffed. Food was mediocre. Will not be back.
It took a while to get our food. The waitress was great, the food not so good.
Back in the day, it was a nice place. Desperately in need of an update. Also, the menu offered shrimp linguini but the dish arrived with spaghetti. Minor point perhaps, but it's easy to mention the change or just change the menu. Ordered a double Macallan's and received a double Dewar's 12 YO. If you don't have Macallan, just say so. The salmon was nice.
Bottom line: I see why it was the only place available for a reservation.
It took 90 minutes to get our food
Bad food, bad service and expensive for the kind. Sorry, but not going back
Great menu; fresh choices; good service; nice ambience
waitress was good, but the hostess and bartender were ridiculous as if they had never done their job before.
was not busy and they could not handle the simplest of tasks.
Waited 15 minutes before even being greeted by the hostess, who then had us wait 10 min for a specific table even though there were 5 open tables we could see. We had a reservation. For was alright, but the service was slow & disorganized.
Food was basically cafeteria food pretending to be white table cloth. Ordered a grilled cheese (fool proof, this was fine), french fries (some were frozen so obviously out of a package), and a “french dip” (old grocery store bun with charred meat). While we sat at the restaurant for over an hour, we never even received a glass of wine. Saw the waiter twice in the hour. Bad food, bad service. Good place if you’re there for the bar, but I would never recommend eating there.
Kudos to our waiter though who knew the service was terrible and comped one of the entrees without us having to say anything.
Service was pretty slow and food was so so but our wine was great. The sommelier was very informative
Unfortunately did not have a good overall experience. The lady who helped us with our wine was wonderful. She checked on us more than our server. He was pleasant when around, but was difficult to locate when needed.
My husband order the prime rib (medium) and I had the ribs. The prime rib came out first. We assumed my dinner would follow shortly. After waiting about 5 minutes we asked and it finally showed. After my dinner arrived my husband started on his dinner...well done and impossible to eat. We pointed this out and they started a new one after agreeing that it was over cooked for medium. I found the ribs tough and believe they weren’t cooked long enough. It was a fight to cut through the first few ribs. They returned with another prime rib - also well done, but edible. We called it a day and just called it a bad night. I heard the main chef was out and perhaps that was the cause of the issues. They did comp the prime rib and we appreciate their effort to make it right.
Don’t waste your time. Service is amateur and food is average at best. Complete waste of money.
Mediocre food. Staff tried to be friendly but was clearly unorganized and understaffed. Was it a surprise that there’d be large demand during the biggest holiday week of the year?
We waited forever for our waitress to come by our table to take our order, and then we waited for a long time for our food and drinks. I saw my wine sitting at the bar waiting to be picked up for at least 15 minutes. A busser finally brought all our appetizers and entrees at once, which looked like it had also been sitting. We basically never saw our waitress after ordering. The food was nothing to brag about.
We Didn’t receive the food we ordered, the food was not prepared how we ordered, when we asked to correct we were told it was what we ordered and was prepared how we asked..... overpriced and poor quality all the way around, we won’t go back
Superior Christmas Eve dinner... good food, great service, cozy wirh roaring fire.
We had reservations for breakfast this past Sunday 10/1/17, hoping to watch some football. We got there at 10am, I think an hour after they opened. There was another family of 5 sitting in the lobby, and I looked around for a hostess, but could not see one anywhere. There were two separate parties sitting in the dining room, and 2 people sitting at the bar. We waited a minute or two, still no help or waitstaff in sight, then we walked towards the bar, and the bartender said, can you please go back to the waiting area, I'll come get you in 5 minutes (he was drying some glasses). The family of 5 said they were told the same thing 5 minutes ago, they had to wait to be seated in an EMPTY restaurant. That was a very bad sign, as I imagined the service would be terrible in the dining room. I walked back to the bar and asked if we could just sit there, and the bartender said there would still be a 5 minute wait. WHAT??? Never heard of that before. We decided to leave (and so did the other family of 5) and go elsewhere...to the Liberty Sports Bar down the street, which had great food, 9 TVs with all of the different football games, and GREAT service. No wonder The Rafters was empty. BAD SERVICE. The bartender was not apologetic, pleasant, or kind. He did not care one bit about our business, so he, for sure, did not deserve our business or tip money. NO THANK YOU.
I like this place for large groups, picnic style seating and lot's of food. Great service and very popular in the Atlanta area....
Went in to eat after the Mammoth Food and Wine event. The price point was reasonable for some really delish food! They had a Rib Eye Special, and the cut of meat was huge and at a low cost! Cooked perfectly! Also had a wedge salad, which was ENORMOUS!!! The sides and appetizers are also quite a good, and more than enough to share. The Brussel Sprouts were excellent! Since there were six of us, we had quite a choice of food, and all was tasty. Highly recommend!
Great classic in town! Good food and good service. It's nice to feel like you're in a mountain restaurant. Great ambience.
Our waiter was so wonderful! Mother's Day Brunch was perfect. LOVED the eggs Benedict with spinach. Hollandaise Sauce was excellent. Free Mimosas on Mother's Day for mothers! Loved it! Will be there next Mother's Day for sure!
We went for breakfast on Easter. Breakfast restaurants are limited in Mammoth. Food was warm at best. Bloody Mary had no tomato mix in it. Service was iffy. This was the third time that we have dined at Rafters over the past few months. Each time it was off...either food was ok and service was poor, or service was good but food was not. They seem to have trouble serving the entire party at one time...even with only three people.
I arrived at the appointed hour of my reservation to find that the restaurant was closed for remodeling. Obviously this isn't a knock on the restaurant. But OpenTable should try to figure out how to avoid such glitches in the future.
Do not eat here! Rats were running across floor ...3 other tables saw them and waitress just ignored us when we told her. Disgusting place...we should have walked out but we were desperate in mammoth on holiday weekend...sick to my stomach even though most of us didn't even eat by the time food finally got to us...horrible...should be shut down...disappointed with opentable for having this as a participating restaurant
Very disappointed with the food but felt lucky to get a reservation in mammoth on a holiday weekend. Thats's the sad reality of the town. I had the duck $33.00 = awful!
Nice to have a one stop shop in Mammoth - decent food and some live music with dancing later. Walk or Bus easy access and away from the Village.
The staff is so, so amazing. The sommelier is awesome, and recommended an amazing bottle of wine. We were so disappointed when the food came. It just wasn't that great. For the price especially. We have eaten at many fine restaurants, so maybe we're too picky. I hate to even write this because the staff was so great. Maybe they can get the chef to up his game as I would go back for sure.
The food was excellent as agreed by all 6 in our party. The service however was painstakingly slow. We generously attribute that to the restaurant being short-staffed that day. Perhaps two or more waiters did not show up. But our real problem with the restaurant was had a reservation and upon our timely (5 minutes early) arrival we still had to 15 minutes be seated and then were given (unknown to us at the time) the worst table in the restaurant when many others were available. The problem with our round table was it was next to the bar area and on the side of the large and quite impressive fireplace in the main dining room. But being on the side of the fireplace gave us no view of it and most importantly we received no heat from it. The latter point is important as across the bar area there was a side door to the outside patio that was constantly opened either by kids playing or patrons coming and going or leaving to smoke. In the middle of winter this creates an almost constant draft to our table. It was incredibly unpleasant. We even asked if the door could be kept shut to stop the draft, but nothing was done to alleviate the problem. I mentioned this to the hostess after our meal but she seemed to have not even understand that the table is in the worst part of the restaurant, at least during the winter. If you go, ask for a back table away from the bar -- unless you can get one of two tables right next to the fireplace.
Food inedible with many menu items unavailable. We will not return and highly suggest you avoid at all costs.
I don't think there has ever been a worse restaurant. Waited 1 hour for our drinks and almost 1:20 for food. Oh, and they brought the appetizers and main courses at the same time. This place is a disaster.
It was pretty bad. We hadn't been there for a while and decided to give it a shot again. We were seated in a back room that was bright and freezing. They were also out of a lot of food. Won't be going back.
I think our waiter was a little stoned. After he delivered our food, it took him an hour and 40 minutes to come back to us. Yes, an hour and 40 minutes. The management took a little off our bill.
We have eaten at Rafters many times over the years. They are oneof the top restaurants in Mammoth Lakes, CA. This time we did a flatbread and burger started by chili and a salad. Yummy.
