Was here for the sunday roast and would highly recommend! Portion was a bit smaller than expected but overall it was an amazing experience. Food was excellent and served pretty fast (maybe 5 min after ordering?). Very good service and a beautiful pub, very comfortable and with great attention to detail. Definitely on my list whenever I'm visiting Edinburgh again! Thank you!

Great atmosphere with books and different areas to sit in and friendly staff. Food was amazing and cooked to perfection, steak cooked exactly how I ordered it and better than some steak houses.

The shared roast dinner was disappointing. The roast was actually a cut up steak and it was sliced incorrectly causing it to be very tough. The Yorkshires were dry and overdone. The roasties were very tough to cut into and the pieces of potato too big. The three desserts were underwhelming. Overall a disappointing roast/carvery and we would not recommend. Thank goodness we have a more traditional one booked next week.

Mollyocanada, it is disappointing for us to hear that your experience was anything less than great. Regarding your feedback, yes our roast is bavette so it's a steak cut of meat. We've made a conscious choice to serve bavette as it's higher quality and we think it tastes the best. The rest of what you're describing is not what we pride ourselves on and we'd like an opportunity to make it up to you and show you the quality we normally serve up. The food was mediocre - the service was lacking. My husband’s steak was overcooked and unimpressive - it looked like 2 random pieces of meat… very odd looking. The focaccia appetizer with sauces was the best item. For my entree I had fish n’chips; it was large but rather bland in flavor. I did like the peas. After flagging down a waiter we ordered dessert…sticky toffee pudding….It was a small corner piece…again we were also very unimpressed. We would give it a 3. Overall we would not recommend nor would we go back. We spent €77

I couldn’t fault the food which was really nice but I thought the service was exceptionally slow. It was also a bit expensive for what it was.

Party of 4 on a city break. The service here we found was friendly and helpful and we very much like the set up here, typical good pub, lively but not over noisy. 3 of us had the beef roast and it was gorgeous highly recommend this, 1 had fish and chips which she said was fine, the only criticism we had was the dessert 2 of our number found the sticky toffee pudding a little dry and our sharing puds weren’t as the same standard as the roast… but we ate everything so no complaints just opinions We all said we would recommend the Queens Arms especially the yummy roast dinner

Good extremely disappointing. I had haggis neeps tatties. It wasn’t fresh. The potato/neeps was hard, felt like it hadn’t been defrosted, so definitely not fresh. Haggis wasn’t warm and the cheese sprinkled on top wasn’t melted. My friend had steak which was mediocre. I expected more from this restaurant/pub. Only good thing was the ambiance.

Hello Claire, thanks for your review. The bottom part of the dish is steamed turnip, they’re never frozen but may have been steamed too little. Staff were amazingly helpful, turning down the background music (some of us were hard of hearing) and letting us stay well beyond the two hour slot we'd been warned we may have to stick to. The wooden and bookish décor was comfortable and such a change from modern cold white and greys. Food was excellent, portions generous; a soup and starter or a main was plenty for us. A long as you're mobile enough to negotiate the steps down to the entrance, I'd recommend this place.

We were warmly welcomed to the Queen's Arms and is obviously a popular venue. It's probably a little fuller than the space can comfortably accommodate, making it feel claustrophobic. Staff never took our drinks order, and the cutlery arrived after our food. They were very busy and I appreciate that. However, the dish I ordered was practically inedible. The chips were hard and dry. There was minimal sauce on the bun, and the veggie patty gave me a terrible stomach ache. We were not asked if we enjoyed our meal, despite my plate being nearly full of food. I did not complain because we had tickets to the Castle , and I just wanted to get out of there.
