The Q Restaurant & Bar (fka BarBersQ) Ratings and Reviews
The food was good, but with so many options in Napa, I expect something above and beyond. This wasn't. The service was ok to poor. The atmosphere was odd- very quite, not a lot of people dining, which just made it awkward. My food arrived and the fries were completely cold. The coleslaw was underdressed, and just ok. The BBQ was good, and their sauce great, but unfortunately, it just missed the mark. Maybe better for lunch?
We were looking for a restaurant where our friend's two year old toddler would be comfortable and have something from the menu he would enjoy. Enter Q! It was a great place for family dining. Energetic noise level, casual atmosphere, affordable menu. The food was good - I had the fried chicken sandwich, the chicken was a little dry but it was still good. My husband loved loved loved his bbq meat. And the toddler certainly enjoyed his grilled cheese sandwich, it looked really good. The wait staff was great - they gave the toddler crayons and pictures to color in and talked with him at length several times. Water was always full. When I had to ask for another 7-up because one of the waitstaff inadvertently refilled it with water, the server was gracious and profusely apologetic, although I know it was an honest mistake and I appreciated the quick refill on our drinks. We don't live in Napa but if I did, I would definitely visit the restaurant on a regular basis. Great job, Q!
I never write reviews, but the dinner was so bad, I needed to vent! We went to get their fried chicken, only to realise they only serve it on Sundays and Mondays. That being said , we chose alternatives. The spicy wings are good, and the caesar was decent, but that ended it. My grilled artichoke was so dried out, it was like trying to scrape cardboard off the dried up leaves. one half of it was inedible. The fried pickles had pieces of leftover onions? and pepper pieces, from the previously used oil. The server suggested the fried chicken sandwich, since there wasn't the bucket of chicken, so 2 people had it. Once again, the chicken and the bun was so dry, she couldn't eat it. The fish and chips thick batter was a soggy mess and the slightly smelly fish and cold fries remained on the plate. The emmanthaler cheese on the mac made it to strong a flavor for the kids but their chicken strips were ok. I've been there many times before and had good meals, maybe the chef had a bad nite, but I don't think I'll ever go back.
I don't know why our experience was different from most other reviewers. Possibly the server was the whole problem. My husband caught her in a lie about the wine. Why didn't she just say she didn't know? She didn't write anything down, so of course we didn't get what we ordered. The entrees (when they finally came) came 30 seconds after the soup/salads so we had to ask them to take them back and keep warm. The wine never came. We were visiting for a 4-day weekend and this was our worst meal
The food was excellent and the servers were very cordial and polite but the service was painfully slow. It seemed that there sure have been more help for the mount of diners in the restaurant. The wait staff were hurrying but I think they had too many table to be efficient. I would go back, but only when I have lots of time.
This is seriously the best barbeque restaurant in the world, and certainly the most upscale in appearance. But it's not all show -- the food really is outstanding. This time we brought a friend. She ordered the ribs, took one bite, and nearly dropped her silverware, exclaiming "These are the best ribs ever!" As usual I had the friend chicken sandwich, which was perfect. My wife had the bbq chicken, also as good as always. To start we shared roasted turnips (I think this was a special of the day). Everything was perfect!
Our first time in Napa and we wanted some home cooking. I had the half chicken platters and my companion had the combo. Both were amazing but the best part were the sides. I had the cornbread with honey butter...OMG!!! And my companion had the Mac n cheese..out of this world. Next time I am in Napa I will be there!
We enjoyed our time at this restaurant. The Sunday Brunch was good. They have a good variety of breakfast and lunch items during the brunch time. The waitstaff is very accommodating. At our table some folks ordered the vegetarian omelette which was very good. The hash browns were unique but delicious. The person who had the ribs enjoyed them and the person who had the shrimp and grits enjoyed them as well. The strawberry parfait wasn't that good. The ambiance is not the greatest but a good spot to hang with a friend and grab a bit to eat or watch the game at the bar. Nice spot connected within the shopping center. I would make plans to return.
This restaurant has a lot going for it, and it is tucked in a shopping plaza. We enjoyed what we ordered - ribs, shrimp with coleslaw, and grilled asparagus. The wine list is very good The service was good and needs refinement to go to the next level. We will be back because they are doing many things well here. The coleslaw with the shrimp was very nice - not the usual smothered in mayonnaise coleslaw. However, the coleslaw that came with the ribs was the version that is heavy with mayonnaise and vinegar that all coleslaw flavor is lot. I hope the management reads reviews and fine tunes service and food to make this place just that much better.
My wife and I had the Fish & Chips and found them laking to what we would get in the UK. The breading on the fish was puffed up which made it look like we were getting more. The fries where very thin and salty and seemed to have been frozen. Since we have been here before we know that there are other items on the menu that are way better.
From the moment you walk in until it's finally time to roll out this place is fabulous! Why? We had a reservation for 4 on a Saturday night at 7p.m. We were seated at 7p.m.! We were also given the choice-indoors or out. We dined in. Order were promptly taken. Food and beverages were promptly served. The noise level was low enough that we could enjoy a conversation without yelling or repeating ourselves.
The menu was varied enough to please everyone and the food was great. The attention to detail was definitely noticed.
If you just can't eat here then make plans to get dinner to go. Everything is well-packed and delish!!!
We found the overall spiciness of the dishes to be more intense than past visits. Even the coleslaw served at the table seemed to be from two different batches - the cut of the cabbage itself to the creaminess and spice was quite different. One person in our party barely touched her dinner due to the spiciness of the rub! My suggestion is tone down the rub and let the sauces you add give it more heat.
We were drawn to the Q by their informative email that alerted us to the Easter Brunch special menu. We received a warm welcome from the owner on our arrival. We started with the special drink selection and decided on bloody marys, a great start to our meal. The brunch items all looked good and we chose biscuits and beef sausage gravy. It was wonderful.
It was a great meal and a great experience.
Unfortunately the burger was burnt, the pulled pork was dry, the fish and chips were good but way too much salt on the fries, the appetizers were good but that didn't make up for the pricey dinners that were less than enjoyable. Friends have been here many times and loved their visits so I am curious if there was someone "new" in the kitchen on this particular evening. Most disappointing for the dollars spent.
Went for our anniversary. Ordered crab cakes...very good.also a wedge salad came out way too late. Entree was the Combo BBQ Platter....they lost our order. When it did come it was not with the condiments... Had to ask for them. Then after all that they asked at least three times if we were finished while we were still eating!!! Did a great job uncorking our wine though. Menu was never explained to us(it would have been nice). Past up a chance to dine at R&D my fault. Don't think I'll be going back any time soon.
difficult to find in shopping center, the large Q over the door should have made it clear. outside tables were nice, cheerful but not particulaly noisy inside.
service was friendly, prompt, and accommodating while the food (barbecue in my case) was very good. the wine list, as you might expect in napa, was good. as a long time fan of America's last formula 1 champion and his son, i had and recommend the andretti red.
I had been to the Q many times before, but it had been awhile. The food quality was lacking. Food was overcooked or burnt. Cornbread was brought out quite a while after the meal was delivered (burnt). However, the service was fine. The wine selection was excellent. It is the first bad meal I have had at this restaurant and hope that it was an isolated incident.
The food is absolutely fantastic. Spare ribs and brisket smoked to perfection. Excellent fried chicken. All of the side dishes were good especially fries pickles and deviled eggs. The service team is well versed in terms of knowing the menu and are very helpful. Service is excellent. I love this place.
I go here often to have the ribs which are delicious. Sometimes the other items are hit and miss. What irritated me on my last meal there was there was no one barely in the restaurant and we waited FOR TOO LONG to get our food and our coffee and they got our order wrong. A lot of people look at that order so it shouldn't come out wrong!! If you're open be open and ready to serve and don't make the mistake of taking food back to the kitchen! Staff is always nice on a brighter note.
When we arrived at 5:00 we were the only customers on the patio. When we left the patio was still unoccupied. Based on the traffic at the front door they were just as slow inside. The service we received would have been understandable in a very active, busy restaurant but unacceptable when the staff had plenty of time to do better.
This was a special occasion dinner featuring Neela Perez's Indian food from her recently published cookbook. So although I do eat at the Q quite often (it's right near Whole Foods), I did not have their regular menu, but a Indian edition. Neela's food is very good and I did enjoy it immensely.
We live nearby and find Q to be a convenient location but our recent visits have been disappointing. This visit we chose to sit on the patio which is very nice. However, there were only 2 servers to cover both inside and out. We ordered 2 glasses of wine and it took 15 minutes to arrive (and we think it was the wrong wine, but at that point we just kept it). When our food order came out it was the wrong order. To be fair it must be noted that this was quickly corrected. The food was OK, not badly prepared, but nothing special. There are so many good new restaurants in Napa and Q has tough competition. We like many things about Q (good wine list, nice setting) and hope we can rate it a neighborhood gem in the future
Having been going here for over a year, I can normally count on getting a good, satisfying meal at Q. Located in Bel Air Plaza on Trancas, it's one of the only nicer restaurants in the area, so they somewhat have the market cornered. I've noticed a slight decline in the overall food quality, including portions & food being cooked as I requested, but overall, meal is still good. They also have a fun bar menu & I can always find a new drink! If you're into BBQ, then definitely a must-try.
We eat here regularly, sometimes going for the barbecue dishes, occasionally the fish and often the specials. This time we both had the burgers. Really delicious. I usually can't finish and take the rest home but this burger was so good that I ate the entire thing and all the fries too. The Padron peppers were a very tasty appetizer.
