The Putterham Grille Ratings and Reviews
Went here on an impromptu double date night because they had reservations available. Atmosphere and ambiance are very appealing and the menu looks great. However, our food took double the amount of time it should have to arrive. Very annoying. My butternut squash ravioli was so sweet it was nearly inedible and everyone else's entrees were "meh." The waiter was initially friendly but then was a little too defensive about the food wait time and not following a request for no cheese on a salad. Overall, just ok.
We met with family while we are in the Boston area. We were looking for something half way between Cambridge and Dedham and found the Grill. We had excellent entrees (I had the Pasta Bolognese and it was the best I've had outside of how my wife makes it.
Everyone was very happy with their entrees. I can't speak for the other appetizers, but the beet salad was delicious. The waitress could not have been more charming. Overall a very, very nice dining experience.
Nice restaurant whose set up looked like a good breakfast and lunch place. We learned that they serve lunch and dinner not breakfast. The food has a greek flavor but is not like a typical greek restaurant. Some good items for vegetarians (the vegetarian version of stuffed grape leaves with chick peas and rice was excellent). We also liked the nice serving plates and bowls. Good food, good service. We'd go back.
Restaurant has a very comfortable modern atmosphere to it with bright colorful artwork on the walls. Wait service is very good. Kitchen seemed a little slow in getting the food out but not exceedingly bad in terms of wait. Other than the salmon being a little over cooked for my liking, our other dishes (calamari, chicken tender, veal parmigiana, roasted chicken, and Asian tofu) were all very tasty with healthy size portions. Desserts (cheesecake and apple pie a la mode) were a hit with my kids as well. Overall, a very good dining experience.
3 out of 4 got salads as meal and all were disappointed. Beet salad was smothered in dressing. Replacement with dressing on side came after everyone else was finished. The Steak salad had too small amount of meat.
Noise level made it difficult for 4 of us to hear each other. We left as soon as we could.
It was our first time at the restaurant. The food was outstanding. We had the avgolemono soup to start -- it was the best I have ever had. The spanakopita was delicious, as was the stuffed eggplant. The horiatiki salad was a disappointment. At $11, it was extremely small.
The restaurant would do well to install carpeting to install some of the noise from the other diners. The service was slow, as there was only one waitress, plus the two owners performing as waitstaff.
All in all however, it was a nice dinner and I have already recommended it to a few people.
As two old friends who usually stick to Boston and Cambridge/Somerville, we tried something at a fair distance from home. We had braised lamb shanks, a house specialty that is well worth a special trip. The fried calimari comes with a great sauce. The waiter and Takis the owner were especially hospitable. We'll be back!
Delicious food beautifully presented. We had dinner, but I'm sure it's a great lunch spot too. Varied, bordering on eclectic, but quite accessible menu selections. Casual, friendly atmosphere in stylish and immaculate venue. A real gem of a spot. Think South End except plenty of parking and way less pretense. We'll be back there. T+P C , W. Roxbury
This is our third visit to Putterham Grille in about 6 months. The place is a welcome improvement form the deli-type operation that was there for many years. Food is quite good and not expensive! Decor and staff attitude are definitely upscale, but there are still a few operational issues that need to be resolved. Service is very friendly but varied and can be slow. We have been greeted promptly, seated enthusiastically, and then abandoned with our menus when we could have put in orders for drinks and appetizers while reviewing the menu, which is great. Another time everything flowed extremely smoothly until an abrupt delay as we were finishing the meal and would have loved to look at dessert and get a round of coffee, except the waiter went missing. Unfortunately, the last visit may have been our last as it was just way to noisy to converse. The place has a great kitchen - just a struggle to get stuff out of it!
First time there for lunch (have been many times for dinner.)
Turkey sandwich was fresh sliced turkey meat, not that processed, pressed stuff. It was very tasty. Side of potato salad was also good and a nice option from the usual chips.
Service was solid, as usual.
I do feel, however that prices are slightly higher than they should be.
One of our favorite local restaurants. On this night we went to celebrate my mother's birthday. Once again the good was excellent. The chicken marsala remains one of the best I've had. Wife had the shrimp scampi; mother had the salmon, and my boys both had the chicken parm. All loved their meals. The boys feel this is their favorite chicken parm.
However, on this night the kitchen was unbelievably slow. We waited 30 minutes following our salads to get our entrees. We were told it was attributable to a great number of take out orders and a new chef.
Our striking server, Joanne, was very good, but should have offered a round of drinks. I subsequently asked for comped desserts, which they provided.
Fortunately, the food quality assuaged the painfully long wait. Still... one of our favorites.
I have been going to this restaurant since it opened. It is delicious; all the food, the catering is great, and the owners try to please. The BEST homemade chicken soup with Matzo Balls you every tasted...
Specials every night and music on Thursday nights. I would highly recommend this restaurant for everyone's needs.
We had not been back to the PG for a couple of years but was pleasantly surprised to find that it's even better than I remembered. The steak tips were perfect and the blue cheese mashed potatoes outstanding. We'll definitely get this place back into our rotation for area restaurants.
Recently lunched here with 5 friends. One was celebrating a milestone birthday. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and attentive. We all enjoyed our meals and we agreed we would definitely be back, perhaps next time for dinner. A great neighborhood spot.
Enjoyed a wonderful Lunch celebrating my daughter's Graduation. Easily accommodated 10 of us right when they opened. (Did have a reservation) Food was fresh and delicious . Don't pass up the chicken lemon soup, spinach pie or the Hummus plate. Got these for starters. So fresh and light, we had plenty of room for our lunch orders. Salads are great, as well as deli sandwiches. Don't forget to save room for dessert!
The grape leaves were good. The entree said it came with summer squash, I received 3 little pieces. At least I got 1 whole cherry tomato! My girlfriend got two spears of asparagus! Two(2)! Not a good value for the price, they are catering to the geriatric Brookline crowd that is there in droves that has the money to burn.
There were a few moments in our dining experience where the waitstaff was clearly not on the same page, and we went through about 3 different waiters. That being said, once we got settled in with our waitress, she was very nice and the food was fantastic. Good small type atmosphere with a mix between upscale and casual. Acoustics in the building can be a little bit strange, making it hard to hear everyone at your table, but not bad enough to substantially effect the experience.
We had dinner here to celebrate a birthday. My wife and I have been here before but this time we brought my daughter. It was a Monday night and there were relatively few customers so the place was quiet. As usual, the food was delicious. Two in our party had lamb kebab. The meat was cooked perfectly, was tender and tasty. We will return.
Service and food was top notch. Great local restaurant with a family owned feel, enjoyed the conversation with the staff very much. They were all very attentive to us. Great quality food and pricing can't be beat. Very positive experience, will definitely be back.
I read the reviews saying the service bad and we went in at the ready. But it wasn't. Our waitress was friendly and prompt. The water guy/table clearer was also totally on top of things. We got a drink quickly and the food came out in good order and in good time. So either we got lucky or they got the message. Either way we were totally happy. Food was good too! Planning on going back to try some of the other things that looked good that we didn't get to.
