The Pump House
Charcoal grilled salmon in a lovely spi achieve salad was exceptional
Excellent service! Great food! I would definitely recommend the Pump House if you are in Fairbanks. The crab cakes were spectacular as was the filet!
Food was pretty good. Had the spinach artichoke dip... heavy on the spinach, negligable amount of artichoke. Also shared the crab cakes... only two, over priced, over rated.
My filet was cooked to order, but was cool, as if it was cooked first and left while the meals of the others' in my party (4 of us) were being prepared. That being said, none of the food was particulary hot... just above warm.
The service was okay, but at this level of restuarant you expect the servers to walk around to each guest to serve rather than reaching over you. Most likely not the servers fault, poor training by management. This has been an issue for us on previous visits to The Pump House.
The seating was rather crowded, which made the experience for my 18 year old son uncomfortable (big football player type). This is most unfortunate as this restuarant was his choice for his 18th birthday.
Will I go back again? Uhm, maybe, off season. Have had Sunday brunch here before, and it was delightful with great food and outdoor seating on the deck overlooking the river. Have also had visits where even after three tries my order did not come out correct, luckily this was not the case this evening.
To finalize: High priced, but not high style.
Decent food, way over priced.
Nice atmosphere, but crowded seating.
Attentive service, but not up to the level you should expect for the price.
Do I recommend: Yes, with reservtions. Don't expect the service you would get in the lower 48 for the same price. (around $250 for a party of 4). Pleasant Alsaka type atmosphere. It's okay, and a nice place to take out of town guests.
The food and service was amazing! Definitely be back again.
One of our favorites for a night out to dinner. Always great food and friendly staff.
I enjoy going to the Pump House for their Sunday brunch and I always make reservations well in advance. The last 2 times I went with my husband with reservations, we were seated in a VERY cramped table where in order for us to both sit at the table, we had to move it into the aisle and block traffic. I told the hostess that I made a reservation for the deck seating (didn’t even mind that we weren’t given anything near the deck), but got put in a too small of an eating space behind the host stand and right next to the kitchen. The hostess manager snapped at me that I needed to calm down (I was calm) and people make reservations weeks ahead. I don’t care what other people do. There were 4 other 2 person tables and some on the deck that were in service that we could have been seated at. It took a few minutes of her scrambling for some reason to figure this out and we were finally seated at a table that can seat 2 adults. The hosts always look panicked and scrambling like they’ve never had to seat people before, even with reservations that they can plan ahead for. However, in the multiple times I’ve eaten here over the past 10 years, I’ve never had a problem with service from the wait and bar staff, just the hosts and hostesses.
We enjoyed father's day brunch yesterday at The Pump House, food was fabulous! Our server Patrick was kind, professional and provided us with excellent service! Thank you
Tried the Pump House during and Alaskan tour on the recommendation of some locals as well as OpenTable ratings - totally lived up to expectations - the salmon entree was perfectly cooked and the service was prompt and pleasant.
Food and service generally were good. Our server, Elizabeth, did a fine job and was attentive. The huge turnoff occurred when another employee, who was busing the table of a large party next to us, decided to set dirty plates from that table onto our table while we were eating our food. I guess he needed to free his hands for something or other, but there were two empty tables literally next to ours that he could have used instead. Absolutely the most bizarre thing that's ever happened to us in a restaurant. We called the manager over to complain, and he apologized and bought us dessert. Still, that put a damper on the rest of our experience there.
We went to the Pump House for Sunday Brunch. It was amazing. The spread was everything from cold salads, cheese platters, traditional breakfast items to a carving table with prime rib and ham. Very great food and service.
We dined and watched our reserved table sit empty as we were told we couldn't sit there because it was reserved. Communication is not their strong point.
We experienced a wonderful dinner with our Granddaughter who just had her 21st birthday. Great service, delicious dinner and a lovely complimentary birthday dessert. We were seated in the covered deck area overlooking the beautiful Chena River. We can't wait to return!
Alexandria treated us wonderfully and great food and ambiance.
We had a great time: good food and drinks, friendly wait staff, etc. My one request would be for them to clean the tent area: screens, windows, etc. Cobwebs, etc. were unattractive at the price we paid for dinner!
My first time in Fairbanks and also first time visiting Pump House. A fantastic experience all around! Food was excellent and we loved the location — both of being on the water and also in an old historic building.
I live in Fairbanks and go to the Pump House a few times a year. Sometimes our meal and service are amazing and sometimes the food leaves something to be desired. This visit was one of the better meals we've had there. Service was also up to standards. We generally have a nice time while there and the atmosphere is always nice.
Our whole experience was awesome. Our waitress was Julie. She went above what we expect in Fairbanks. Very very pleased with her service and advice. Food was delicious from appetizers to the huge delicious dessert. Thank you for wonderful evening! We will be back and def tell our friends
Unique interior decor. Service was friendly and attentive. Food well prepared and presented. Portions however are too large especially since a lot of guests were tourists and no means to take something home. Fair amount of good food being sent back to the trash can.
Large portions but beautiful views from the deck and good service!
Our waiter Patrick was excellent. Very professional. Anticipated our needs. A +++
Our visit was one night in Fairbanks and we selected the Pump House. Probably the best food we had on our entire 12 day trip ( which followed) The Pinacle Grill on The Noordam was close second. I had crab cakes and Halibit. Wife had Crab legs. Cleaned our plates. The dessert tray was eye opening. I had two. All was worth the Price.
The Pump House was one of the highlights of our trip to Alaska. We were a part of 6. The food was excellent, the servers were great, attentive, with a sense of humor. We had a very good evening!
We decided to have a nice romantic dinner after the Riverboat Cruise at the Pump House. We expected a lot, and we were not disappointed!!! It gets very good reviews in TripAdvisor, and also rates very highly with locals. It was our last night in Fairbanks, and we wanted it to be memorable. You would do yourself a disservice for not learning more about the history of this fantastic Pump House, it's beautiful bar, pool table, and tribute to a couple of their Cooks who have passed away.
This place has class, and is located right on the side of the Fairbanks River. The service was great, and the waiter was quite knowledgeable. We decided to start with a spinach and artichoke dip, which is probably one of the very best we've ever had (and we have had many great ones). We ordered the fresh halibut breaded and pan-fried with potatoes, and asparagus. Our meal was Michelin multi-star quality!!
We finished with a fresh rhubarb crumble, and walked away, having our high expectations exceeded !! Do not leave Fairbanks without experiencing this gem of a restaurant, it ranks right up with the best in America........ yep, in Fairbanks folks!!
Great as always!! Best place in town. We are never disappointed.
Great food and service, we eat here frequently for dinner out, special occasions and our company Christmas party.
Mother’s Day Dinner was made memorable in the antique ambiance of this Restaurant. There was everything from a big horned sheep head to three generations of Edison cylinder Victrolas to an upside down rendering of a Musher & sled & dogs hanging from the ceiling.
I had a mixed drink and my wife had white wine. We enjoyed small plates of clams and reindeer sausage and one of halibut cheeks, and a cup of chowder and their mixed greens.
Peter was our waiter and he took good care of us.
Great staff, wide variety, reasonable (high) prices. Veggies merely warm, chowder fantastic.
We celebrated a birthday there on the 6th with friends. The evening was very enjoyable as always with this establishment. We appreciate the service, the service and the menu variety. Very good food and wine.
Thank you, Pump House! It was wonderful!
We used Open Table because my birthday coincided with UAF’s commencement so we wanted to make sure we could make a reservation during a very, very busy night.
The service was fantastic!
The food was delicious, the best I’ve had in a long time.
Great food and excellent service. We went for a post college graduation dinner celebration and everyone enjoyed their meal. The wait staff was very attentive and checked in on us frequently to make sure we had beverage refills and that everything was prepared correctly. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the desserts were great too.
Quite possibly the best steak I’ve ever eaten. The filet migion was so tender, it could have been cut with a butter knife.
Food is wonderful as always. Service not so good, either they have to few wait staff or the wait staff makes it a point to leave you alone with empty glass of water, or all empty plates waiting for the check. Still will be going for the amazing food.
Wonderful experience! Visiting family in Wasilla went for a drive and stopped in.
Overall good experience. Steak was cooked perfectly, it just had a weird Burned taste to it.
Had the zucchini and crab cakes for appetizers and the seafood risotto and grilled salmon for dinner. All were very good and reasonably priced. Great bar service courtesy of our server! Cozy atmosphere. Noise level would have been great but there was a group of women at the table next to us that were very boisterous, thought that everything someone at the table said was hilarious and had to laugh extremely loudly. Not the restaurant’s fault.
Attentive staff and excellent food. Recommend for family and friend get together.
The seafood platter was awesome. It was way too much for 2, in fact 4 of us shared it and there was still some left! All the meals were great, elk meatloaf, veggie platter, reindeer steak, halibut fish n chips! Great recommendation by our tour driver!
Kinda spendy. Food was good. Service was good. Everything was “good”, just overpriced. We’re locals, and its not even tourist season yet.
I made a reservation and even though it wasn’t too busy, my we were seated in a terrible spot. There shouldn’t be a table there. I was in a chair sticking out in a walkway right next to the kitchen. I felt like I was in the way of staff going in and out of the kitchen. I was complaining to my husband about it and a random waiter overheard me and took us to another table next to the window. After that upset, the rest of the dining experience was pleasant thanks to Patrick.
I highly recommend the Bloody Larry! Also, this place has one of the best Sunday brunches in the area.
I went to the Pump House for Easter brunch and I was disappointed. I have been over the last few years to the Easter brunch and this was the first year that the food was not to the Pump House quality I am used too. For the price that was charged the food was not worth it. The eggs were watery and the food was just overall not that great. I did attend the Pulp House for dinner the Friday before and the food was amazing! I will def go again for dinner, but we will not attend for brunch again.
