The Prime Rib
Excellent food and service in stately setting. Great for business discussions
I recently had a great dinner at Prime Rib and had such an amazing time that I can't wait to return. I fully appreciated the ambiance, the excellent food and great service from Juan, and especially the background music played by their piano player. When originally looking at their website, I noticed it stated it was one of the five most romantic restaurants in the United States and this certainly did not disappoint me. Whether it is a romantic occasion or dinner with a small group, this is the best restaurant to visit.
I would recommend The Prime Rib with some reservations. We were there for Restaurant Week, so we were paying $35 for a 3 course meal, which is substantively below the regular Prime Rib price point. I found that the cocktails were all on the small size in spite of the price. The waiter was very condescending to us since we were doing the restaurant week menu, and I would not be compelled to return. When my wife ordered a second cocktail, he asked acted totally inconvenienced. Once the water glasses were empty at the end of the meal, we could never find a server to bring more prior to the drive home. The ambiance is a 1940's-50' supper club with live music, which we love since it so rare to find this kind of place any more. However, the pianist had a small repertoire, and we heard some songs repeat 3 times during our 3 hour visit. Just not up to par with what it should have been at this price point. We so enjoy The Prime Rib in Philadelphia, this was a disappointment, even with the reduced pricing.
Underwhelming experience at The Prime Rib. The food and drinks were pretty good, but not great. Service was okay. Had a reservation, arrived early, and weren’t seated until over a half hour after reservation time. Had mentioned on our reservation that dinner was for our first wedding anniversary and didn’t get so much as a “happy anniversary” from the staff. The staff seemed tired ans detached. Not sure if our experience was because it was restaurant week. A bit disappointed and probably won’t be back.
Had to wait when we got there even though we had a reservation. The service was all over the place. Late to get to our table for drinks, dropping utensils, even dropped part of our food. Long wait between appetizer and entree. Bus boys were rude. Not good impression overall
I am again able to say that I had my most enjoyble evening of Restaurant Week at The Prime Rib...and we literally went to the best restarants in town the other nights. Excellent in all ways.
Was a positive experience, but servers seemed preoccupied. They focused on their regulars. They need a lesson from Gramercy Tavern in NYC
Given the price, it felt like they wanted to have us out asap; we got the desert together with the check and the waiter kept nervously waiting in front out table. A place of this (anticipated) calibre, I would have thought of better. Also the table to gave us was kind of not the nicest one they had, despite many free ones that were much nicer and free (also when we left). We could have said something, but ,gain, I would have expected them to give us once table (if free). They food was pretty good.
This was a busy night for Prime Rib and it was ok. The service was extremely slow. The entree came out well but the side orders and dessert were a disappointment. I went once before and it was splendid from start to finish but this time I felt disappointed. The sides were lukewarm. The appetizer salad was absolutely disgusting and left over.
The creamed spinach was flavorless. The creme brûlée wasn’t good either tasted rushed and undercooked. I ordered a twice baked potato not only was it not cooked thoroughly but the outer portion burnt to a crisp and not enough of ingredients in the inside of the potato tasted really thrown together. I will come again when I assume they are less busy. But overall a semi bad night of eating
Service and food was wonderful. Best crème brûlée I’ve had in a while. Wine options were good, but the prices were marked up to a rather ridiculous amount.
Had an opportunity to take advantage of Restaurant Week at the Prime Rib. Terrific food with a very knowledgeable staff. The prices were pretty good as well. Definitely adding the Prime Rib to special occasion list.
It was as good as usual. Has yet to disappoint.
What a wonderful evening at the Prime Rib. Juan was superior in his service; the food was exquisite (imagine a perfectly prepared prime rib and au jus with mashed potatoes and spinach; and the ambiance so lovely. The piano music was so pleasant in the background. All in all, a splendid evening.
Lovely place for a date. Very old school, so make sure your male counterparts have a vest or dinner jacket. If not they might have one available to borrow.
I rarely, meaning only once, give a restaurant five stars. There is usually something that isn't perfect. However, a group went to the Prime Rib during Restaurant Week and had a wonderful experience. The filet mignon and salmon were cooked to perfection and the sides and dessert were fabulous. And while some restaurant staff seem to resent Restaurant Week diners, the staff here delivered impeccable service. They were friendly, attentive, and even took time to converse and joke with us. The piano player was an added bonus for the meal. The normal menu is on the expensive side, but I would definitely recommend it for a special occasion or when you just want to treat yourself.
The timing of two courses was a little off, and they were out of stock on the wine we ordered. Other than that, all was delicious. The musicians were fantastic.
Traditional supper club with highest quality meat, service and ambience
Celebrated our daughter’s 9th Birthday and they made it amazing! Juan was wonderful and related to us very well. Made great suggestions and food was fabulous! Lobster Santiago is the best! Only downside was $40 corkage fee but the food and service made up for it.
It is a classic, terrific steakhouse. Tom Seistma’s Review was way off. This is a wonderful restaurant.
A classy establishment with amazing food. The signature cut prime rib is fantastic.
The Prime Rib is a treat. It is like stepping back into another time. The service was impeccable and the food delicious. They made my Birthday special, relaxing, and thoroughly enjoyable! Many thanks ~
Always a special event to eat at the Prime Rib. From the wonderful ambiance to the unmatched Service, from the quality of every dish served to the reasonable charge, this is one of Washington DC's true GEMS.
Another fine lunch at The Prime rib. We each had the luncheon prime rib, and each were cooked to perfection. Good selection of nice wines to choose from.
Per usual, a great experience
Never a disappointment, consistently excellent service and food in an atmosphere par excellence!
Excellent as always. From the moment we walked in it was a class act. The food and drinks were very good. Only downer was they were out of Baileys for my after dinner drink. But to their credit we were offered another selection at their expense. Like I said “class act”. Wish we could afford it on a more regular basis.
The Prime Rib has been my go to steakhouse in DC. If you are a Prime Rib lover, there is NO other place to go, except here.
Awesome!!! I took my husband for his 60th bday. From the time we walked in until the last bite of dessert, I knew I had made the right choice!!
The service, live jazz duo and ambience were perfect. The meal was absolutely delicious.... the only thing we could say was WOW!!
Best lump crab cake and steak we’d ever tasted!
Thanks for making the celebration such a wonderful experience!
Fantastic as always. The food, the ambiance, the service. What can I say. This place never disappoints.
The current Zagat rating for The Prime Rib show that out of 5 points, the food is 4.6, the service is 4.6 and the decor is 4.7, for a total score of 13.9, which makes this a solid three star restaurant. I agree with the rating. The menu has barely changed in 20 years, which is perhaps the main reason why they don't earn even one star from the Michelin Guide and are never recommended by Tom Sietsema, the Washington Post food critic. Both Michelin and Sietsema are interested in restaurants that have INTERESTING dishes, not just good tasting dishes. Alas, there is nothing interesting about the selection of entrees here. Nevertheless, the food IS wonderful, and always is perfectly cooked. The al a carte menu dictates that a typical three course dinner, with one vegetable will run about $100 pp, and after adding a cocktail, wine, tax and tip, you will likely spend over $300 for a dinner for two, as I just did. Needless to say, at those prices, the restaurant is never full anymore, even on Saturday night at 7:30 pm. Before dinner, while still at the bar, we asked the bartender to make us his choice of a craft cocktail and he made a drink we both liked so much that we ordered another. A wonderful benefit of dining at The Prime Rib is the two-piece combo which starts playing at 7 pm on weekends. If you like soft piano music played by a maestro, request table number 42.
Luke warm food, dry texture prime rib, which didn't come medium rare, as requested. Lobster bisque was unrecognizable...looked like a thick cheese dip. Expensive restaurant, good ambiance, piano was lovely, but the price point for the food quality was very disappointing, especially bc it was a special occasion dinner.
Always a first class experience!
Enjoyed the meal, the wonderful service from Dino, the pianist, and the ambiance. Thank you. Will come again.
I love this restaurant but this time there were misses.
I ordered the chopped steak medium rare but it arrived well done. The bread pudding was half cold due to improper heating.
When you pay Prime Rib prices you expect better execution/
This place is always great! If you like Prime Rib - look no further! Everything is great here.
The entire experience was excellent Justin and Larry made the evening outstanding.
Justin was knowledgeable, helpful and attentive
The Prime Rib is a very special place. The dinner was excellent. The service was professional and perfect. We had cocktails, salad. Then we both ordered the Steak au poivre. Grilled artichokes and perfect potatoes. They all were perfect temperature and very delicious. Let’s be honest. You are going to spend some dollars here. Must say it was worth every dollar. We had a very special evening. We will come back to celebrate again.
Best meal during this family visit. MVP of the evening according to our boys was Larry! Thank you very much for another delicious and memorable family evening.
