You can always depend on this restaurant for a good meal.
Initially, I was looking for a nice restaurant in close proximity to the Academy of Music, in Philadelphia for the Sunday, following the last performance of Les Miserables. I found The Prime Rib via Open Table, and I booked a table for 2 for 9 pm. During intermission, on the night, I realized that the show was going to run later than 9 pm, so I called and spoke with the Maitre 'd, Vinnie to tell him we were going to be late for our reservation. He said "no problem, but if it's going to be later than 9:30 pm, to call and let him know". Low and behold, the show let out right 9:30 pm, so I quick called; and again Vinnie told me to come anyway, and they would do what they can as the kitchen and dining room were starting to breakdown. When we arrived, Vinnie met us and escorted us to an amazing table. We apologized for being so late, but Vinnie would have none of it, he was amazingly accommodating, gracious and kind - treated like old friends. Vinnie, and the entire staff were quintessential professionals.
The cocktails orders were promptly taken, and when served, were perfectly mixed (Old Fashion's), and generously poured. Surprisingly the full menu was still available, including the Prix Fixe offering, which we ordered off. The main courses, Salmon for my guest, and a true med-rare prime rib for myself. I was totally blown away that they still had med-rare cuts available at this very late hour. Both dishes were perfectly prepared, professionally served and delicious on the palate.
I would absolutely recommend The Prime Rib to anyone, and as good as the food was, the experience was substantially more memorable and charming due in large part to the Maitre 'd Vinnie and the entire staff.
I will certainly frequent The Prime Rib again, and recommend it to anyone!
Steaks are delicious as was the huge shrimp cocktails and french onion soup. The ceasar salad was just OK.
Cocktails were also very good but it took way too long to get a drink menu take our order and then get the dinner menu. There is a fine line between fine dining and slow service. I think they must have been short on help. The only excellent service we received was from the waiter who refreshed our water glasses.
The ambiance was very nice with live piano music.
I think one and done for my family.
Love the environment, old school atmosphere and especially the over the top meal. Went to the top of our favorite list of restaurants.
We came for my son in law's birthday and the meal was fantastic. Definitely worth the 50 minute drive during crazy restaurant week in Phila. ( the Prime Rib does not participate). The Prime Rib was full, our service was impeccable and the food was to die for. We would DEFINITELY recommend and return ! A 10+ for the Prime Rib!!
I USUALLY DO NOT FREQUENT STEAK RESTAURANTS; HOWEVER, THE AMBIANCE WAS RELAXING, EASY TO HAVE CONVERSATION AND MOST OF ALL EVERYTHING WE ORDERED WAS WELL PREPARED.
Our table was ready, that's 5 *
Our waiter was FANTASTIC, we felt like we were the only table he had (we weren't it was a busy Saturday) so that's also 5*
The food was very good, thats 5 more *
And lastly the atmosphere was wonderful that's 5 huge *
Pleasantly surprised and realy enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Pricing was pretty good, not too much liek some other steak hosues. Portion sizes were rather large. Overall, very good choice and we will most likely go back again!
Everything was great from start to finish. The service was excellent, mood was perfect and the food was everything. I will definitely go back again. Special thanks to our waitress, Cristina, she was knowledgeable and gracious and extremely helpful.
a much older crowd, the menu seemed to be designed for those that need glasses. Overall an amazing place with great service and great food
I was disappointed when I was told that it wasn't participating in restaurant week after I made the appointment on open table under restaurant week.
Don't Waste Time or Money. Place is rip-off.. prices on menu are higher than those given online.. waiter made mistake of asking us if we wanted a complimentary wine (*which was his error but we were charged for those glasses anyway). Manager refused to take wines off bill but instead took off the tip for the waiter (which was more than 1/2 of price of wine).
Big rip-off.. and very poor experience.
This was a birthday dinner and PR is a great combination of elegant and cozy. The food is amazing, the service outstanding and the piano —-just a great place. Add that the seating is such that you are not on top of one another. A great time!!!
My server was nasty, me and my husband had to ask for drinks and a menu, he cut my cake up and destroyed it.... way to spend my 31th birthday
Everything was wonderful
Excellent, as usual. Some of the staff were watching the Eagles game on the TV at the bar, but otherwise nothing out of the ordinary.
Best Prime Rib I have ever had!!! Cooked to perfection! Side dishes were fantastic as well. Waiter was extremely polite , courteous and answered all of our questions. Management even checked on us to make sure everything was to our liking. Great atmosphere with a piano player playing some soft tunes. I would highly recommend dining here and I always reserve a table here every time I travel to Philly!!!!
Third time in the past 2 months....food is delicious, service excellent (waiters VERY attentive) and live piano music a pleasant background. There were 4 of us...shared 6 clams casino & we each ordered different main courses (each went home with leftovers). Shared 2 desserts, key lime pie & cheesecake...yum. Will definitely return, especially before a Kimmel Center concert, very convenient.
New Year’s Eve
Have spent the last 6 New Years eves at the Prime Rib. Always fun. This year was fun but our waiter was less then attentive. Never asked if we wanted a second drink and seemed to be rushing us through dinner.
Coffee was cold and had to hunt him down to get hot coffee. A restaurant of this caliber should be on point and not serve anything cold.
We also come for Birthdays and Anniversary. The food is always excellent. Waiter was just not up to your standards.
Had dinner there New Years Eve and the service was great and food was even better!
Can't wait to go back for another special occasion.
We did ask to change our seats to the room in the back. We didn't like the overhead lighting in the front room. It was perfect.
excellent setting, great service and one of the best prime ribs i have ever had
We have been to The Prime Rib MANY TIMES. Every time we go the food and service is always outstanding . Our waiter Carlos always knows how to make sure that you are having the best time possible. There isn’t a better steakhouse in the city .
We were really pleased with our experience at The Prime Rib. The food was great, the wines were delicious and our service was quick and efficient.
Lamb chops were delicious as was the Chilean Sea Bass! Both were cooked perfectly.
Food and service were good enough. My caeser salad was all lettuce with scant dressing. Lobster tail was obviously frozen. Sides were tasty but meager in portion. Prime rib, the signature dish, was excellent.
Warm welcome, good ambiance, piano player, an old- fashioned supper club atmosphere.
Great salads, potato skins, sautéed spinach and steaks in c really classy atmosphere.
Always an excellent choice for special occasions, holidays and romantic dinners. Our favorite for 23 years. We love the ambiance on Christmas Eve. This is our third year for Christmas Eve and new family tradition post mass at the Basilica of Sts Peter and Paul in Philadelphia.
Expensive, as expected, however the food was excellent.
Our Christmas Eve tradition is to let our two adult, steak loving sons pick the restaurant for dinner. Over the years we have visited just about every steakhouse in Philly, and The Prime Rib is the only one they have asked to return to for a second time. The restaurant is elegant and comfortable without being "stuffy" or overcrowded. We go a little early so that we can enjoy a cocktail at their cozy bar before dinner. While this is a steakhouse, and the steaks are fabulous and cooked perfectly, I always opt for seafood which is among the best I have had anywhere. We started with a few appetizers and ended with a shared, decadent chocolate mousse. The service is friendly and knowledgeable (never haughty like some places), and prices are more reasonable than other steakhouses in the city. The Prime Rib has become our favorite steakhouse and I would definitely recommend it.
Excellent all around
I have been many times but this may be the final time. Food was mediocre, highly priced and the service was very average.
We have spent many special occasions there but I feel the the restaurant has lost its strength.
Unfortunately we had a terrible experience here the service was terrible and offered no apologies. The food was very good, not sure if it deserves the title best steak house in philly! The bottom line is for a restaurant of their stature when service for whatever reason isn’t up to par you offer an apology my friend literally looked at 3 men expressing legitimate complaints the hour wait in between appetizer and entre coming up. The messing up of handling the bill , we wanted to split the bill our waiter didn’t understand that so we said just put it all on one bill but he then split the bill on the same CC but then didn’t understand that he had done that and told us we needed to pay the other half . It was very confusing at the end of a long night of sparse servicecin which they weren’t busy! Unfortunately not one single manager apologized. That was the problem no apology! It’s a culture I will not support! We went around the corner to Parc for dessert and ended our night on a happy cheerful holiday note!
The Prime Rib is the best restaurant in Philly to have a truly romantic dinner. The food is consistently wonderful, the servers are charming and attentive but not intrusive, and the ambiance is glamorous. Live music (piano), art deco decor. Pricey, but worth it.
Always great service!! Our server was Christine on this evening. Not only did she remember us but she remembered our preferred bottle of wine and table. Very attentive from the entire staff. The food is always excellent.
Food was ample and excellent on the prix-fixe menu.
As always, The Prime Rib was outstanding. My veal porterhouse was cooked to perfection and the service was impeccable. I’ve been to many other well-regarded steakhouses around the country, but The Prime Rib is still my favorite; it’s one of the few restaurants where the dining experience truly feels special. May it never change!
Wasn’t as “40s” themed as explained on the website... however still a good steak house with fantastic dirty martinis!
Amazing experience, great service and memorable dining experience. Carlos is the best.
Great job as always. Dined with Prime Rib many times. Never disappoints. Service impeccable. Sean (waiter) was outstanding.
