We had an amazing meal at the Press Gang. From the moment you walk in, you are in the most amazing atmosphere as it is dimly lit with old historic beams and stone walls. They had live jazz while we dined and it was so romantic.

The ambiance, food, service, and the music were really good. We enjoyed our time there but we really wished the crowd was quieter when the music played. When I looked at the website and the FB page of the place I expected it to be where people dine, but the music was the center of attention. Somewhere, everybody respects the musicians and make no loud noises during the show. On the contrary, most people's approach to music was like it is only dinner music which plays in the background. They felt extremely free to speak and laugh loudly when the musicians play/sing which I found very disrespectful. We could not enjoy the music enough because of this crowd and I was really sad for Nadia Moore and Gerry Carruthers myself. They were great but it seemed like nobody except a few cared. My suggestion to the restaurant would be to keep diner-only guests at the backend and give front tables to people who come for the music or at least put some signs on the tables asking people to keep their voice lower during the shows.

Appetizers were very good. Main course was way over salted. Live music was too loud

Eaten here quite few times have had the drill 4 times
This time was not up to par. Served a well done pork chop. For main. Over priced average at best.
Won’t do that again. It’s unfortunate have held press gang as good choice to date

This was our first time in Halifax and we found The Press Gang via Open Table. It was everything we could ask for and more. The food was excellent and the restaurant itself was lovely. Our waiter was knowledgeable and very helpful in choosing what to get. We had an amazing time and would highly recommended The Press Gang.

Just poor. All the way around. Nice building. Food not good. Lobster served undercooked- twice. Got free dessert for birthday. Felt bad for server but she made up excuse for undercooked lobster by saying “it was a female”. I know lobster. Cooked 100s myself.

It was my sisters birthday, and our first visit to Halifax and this place was outstanding in every way! While the food is most definitely a star, the service was friendly , knowledgeable and there when you need them! If I come to Halifax again this is a place where I will definitely come again! I wish they are in Vancouver !!

We had great food, excellent wine selection, and attentive but not intrusive service. The flaw was we were at a table for 2 in a room of larger tables. There is an extra chair required at our table and perhaps that is why we were put there but it was noisy. It was a birthday and a bit of intimacy was lost.

The best spot for exquisite dining. Fresh oysters and very good entrees. Some things a little pricey, but overal it's the best we found.

We started the evening with drinks and oysters. The ambience at Press Gang was great. The service from everyone was top notch. We decided to allow the Chef create a four course meal for us by selecting “The Drill”. The courses were wonderfully crafted, beautiful presentation, but most of all Delicious.

After we finished our final course Brian, the Chef, had come out from the kitchen to speak with the diners to get direct feedback on their meals and experiences. We felt this was a nice gesture and wonderful touch.

We could not have picked a better restaurant than The Press Gang for a special night out. We will certainly be back again.

We were warmly received for our anniversary dinner. They had designated a secluded table so we would be able to chat. They soon returned with flutes of bubbly wine compliments of the house. It was our first visit to this establishment and we loved it. The menu had some variations from the menu posted on line but it was easy to make our selections. The calamari entre was slightly over cooked for my taste. The thick piece of halibut was slightly underdone for the taste of my wife. It may be useful to ask future client how they want it cooked. The presentation of the plates was impressive and was a real pleasure for the palate. Once the jazz entertainment started the music was pleasant to the ears and not overstated adding to the charm old world look. We had a fantastic evening. Thank you to the staff for their pleasant and courteous service.

The salad my wife ordered had brown lettuce and was not dressed at all. We returned it but yet they billed us for it. The ambience given the price of the meal was not good, we were seated by a noisy kitchen and got to see how truly engaged the staff were in providing service. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone....
