Outstanding historic building. Wonderful ambiance with the perfect amount of lighting and sound levels. The food was great and seasonal, the swordfish was perfect as well as the appetizers. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Will definitely be back!

We visited Press Gang on a 5-day tour of Nova Scotia. The dinner we ate was good - seafood risotto and sea bass for main courses and beetroot salad and scallops for starters. The scallops were the best we had on this holiday but I was disappointed that the bass was not local (from Atlantic Canada) and the beetroot salad was not terribly inspiring. The portion sizes were much too big (this was something we found more generally in Nova Scotia) but presumably justified the fairly high prices for those with big appetites. Not a huge wine list but we managed to find a good local wine. The service was efficient and helpful without being too intrusive. It was a bit too noisy for us due to the close proximity of fairly large groups.

Try the Drill if you dare. Chef clearly has some talent. Sent one dish back for being extremely salty, but he made up for it and then some! If you are in the area and can get a reservation, try it.

The look of the place is fantastic, with authentic wooden beams and one of the oldest walls in Halifax. The cocktail menu is great. Food choices, too.

We thoroughly enjoyed the history of the venue, the superb seafood and the excellent wine. The restaurant was very busy but we had attentive service nonetheless. We were seated in a part of the restaurant that was conducive to good conversation and yet we could still hear the live music gently in the background. The swordfish special was out of this world!

My experience at the press gang was amazing and a great way to end my final night in Halifax. I’m new to scotch and the team there was great at easing me into into some new selections. The oysters were amazing as was my lobster dinner. The ambience was hands down my favourite part of my meal, the live music was awesome and I felt like I had walked into a place where I was old friends with everyone, even though I was dining solo.

Exc lent food and outstanding service from Jamie. The oysters were fresh and cold. As we traveled around the province, my husband had had chowder twice a day for 16 days...kept a journal of them and really liked this one. Salads and fish were superb. Jamie was an exceptional server! If we lived in Halifax we would be here all the time!

A very cozy and historic place with beamed ceilings and stone walls. We were seated promptly and our server was prompt and attentive. The wine list is quite good and reasonably priced. Of course the star are the oysters. This night there were several to choose from. We went with the Nova Scotia variety. Excellent excellent. Served with fresh horseradish and roe. Best ever. We haddock and chicken both of which were good and the vegetables with them were cooked to perfection. The homemade sorbet rounded out the meal. It was homemade and served with berries. It was a lovely evening food and service was top notched

Great meal! We went on a Friday evening and had a table by the kitchen. Feeling adventurous we ordered 'the drill'. Each dish was a surprise and not something on the regular menu. The ambience was amazing as was the attentiveness of our server. The kitchen did an incredible job of presenting each dish and the chef even came to our table afterwards to ask what we liked/didn't like about each course. His passion for food was obvious and it showed! Great meal/experience! Will definitely be back! We waddled away with full bellys!

Very good service, friendly staff.

Recommended appetizers and entree were both excellent i.e. escargot and lamb.

Local on-tap beers and ales! Excellent.

Wine list adequate and enough variety for most palates.

Although the restaurant was busy it as not noisy or distracting. Good ambiance for quiet conversation.

Service was excellent, attentive but not intrusive.

Highly recommended.

My girlfriend's bday. Our 1st time at restaurant. We reserved in advance. Given the awkward table in the fire place (right side chair wedged inside). Asked to be moved and was no problem. Food was excellent. Bday was acknowledged with a free chocolat cake. Bathrooms luxurious. A little over priced (i.e. I can order lamb / seafood risotto's) for cheaper at Bicycle thief / Chives for same quality, but ambience was very nice. My ratings summarize it all = had a lovely experience.

Recommended by a friend while we were exploring Nova Scotia. Great service and selection. Oysters are fresh, ice cold and served to perfection. Wild boar was excellent as was the steak. Accommodated a garlic allergy with no problem which tells me their chef cooks from scratch and does not simply heat something that was prepared “earlier”. Wine by the glass was ok and the only thing I would like to see improved. Bottle selection is very good.

We had a great night out at the Press Gang, relaxed but focused serving staff and chef Bryan did a walk round to make sure everyone had a good food, best lobster of my 2 week vacation, my daughter loved the charcuterie plate and her blackened bass and flourless chocolate plate, my wife enjoyed smoked salmon and cod, wine was good and to cap it all we were serenaded in the bar by the resident duo who were fun when required but hit some lovely beats
