Overall was a very good first experience at the Press gang, I had noted on my reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary, we were sat in a very cozy, almost cave like little spot which I appreciated, we couldn't hear the singer (Joe butcher) and there was a large, noisy table across the room but they were having a good time and we could still engage in conversation, so that wasn't bothersome at all. Our server had given us a complementary glass of sparkling, which was on the bill but he quickly corrected that when it was pointed out. We ordered the drill which I would do again, I think its exciting not to know what is coming next! Before our main dishes came my husband and I both said "I bet it will be lamb, because we don't care for lamb as much" it was, and we had a chuckle. But the lamb was seasoned well and was delicious! My haddock on the second course was a little over done as it was a smaller peice than my husband's, but still very nice. Tried to go in April for a birthday but another shut down had canceled that, was really happy we were able to celebrate something else with the Press Gang, and I think it was one of the mostly lively Saturday nights in downtown Halifax since pre-pandemic, which added to the atmosphere for sure. Chef Brian was very well spoken at the table while explaining the dishes, and I didn't feel as though I couldn't ask questions, he was happy to answer, will be back for the Drill again! Or maybe something from the regular menu (I didnt even look at the menu because the Drill is what brought me in, I've wanted to do it for years)
Everything was fantastic!
The charcuterie board was the best we’ve ever had and the seafood risotto was amazing! We also loved the history lesson that Brian provided. Excellent food, cozy atmosphere and wonderful service!
Excellent meal lovely atmosphere
The Press Gang never disappoints! We had The Drill which was a culinary experience! Absolutely amazing!
First visit after many years. Great food, great ambiance, great service.
Pre-show dinner, and after-show drinks.
Food was delicious our table had the duck, steak and 4 seafood risotto, calamari, seafood chowder and Oysters.
The chowder has large chunks of seafood.
Will be back!
The staff were super friendly and accommodating. The "vegan" risotto they made was BOMB. Overall great experience. Thanks PG!
One of our favourite Halifax hotspots And never disappoints.
One of the best meal and service in a long time. Had the Drill and Chef Bryan came out and served every course and explained the dishes. Will be back again. Thanks for a great experience
The restaurant ambience is very cosy and comfortable. The service from reception to dining was excellent, with very friendly staff. My son and husband really enjoyed their oysters (from 3 different provinces) and my son really enjoyed his lobster. My ribeye steak was well-cooked, but the peppercorn sauce was slightly too salty. The desserts were interesting and very tasty. They have a vast list of Scottish single malt whiskies, which my husband liked. The prices are on the high side, but the quality is good and worth it for a special occasion.
Best restaurant in Halifax. Excellent food service and ambience. Everytime we go there it never disappoints. I would highly recommend if you are looking for a fine dining g experience
The staff is passionate and love what they do. You can see it in the service and taste it in the food. We decided to venture out and try “Henry’s Drill”-best meal we have ever had AND so much fun! We recommend asking about the history and sticking around for the love music (weekends I think) while your at it
a wonderful anniversary dinner - the staff are attentive, non-intrusive and not pretentious
Everything we had was delicious. We had the warm spinach salad, pork tenderloin, seafood risotto and chocolate/caramel parfait. It was all 10/10! My wife had the best sangria she ever had there and the service was great. New favourite spot!
Food and service is always excellent. Press Gang never dissapoints!! Despite the power going out and having to cut our dinner (the drill) short, Chef Brian and the staff were very accommodating. Excellent customer service. We will be back again to enjoy the full experience very very soon !
The drinks they give you on your anniversary aren’t free…keep that in mind and id consider sending them back since the sparkling wine tasted like pasta water.
Everything was amazing!!! My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at the Press Gang. We did the ‘Drill’and it was unbelievable. It had everything you could imagine. Very pleased! Give them a Michelin Star!
Incredible food, service, environment, display, and staff. Couldn’t have asked for anything better. Best in Halifax
Fabulous from start to finish, custom whisky flights created by the bar and a couple visits from the chef to check on enjoyment of all courses. Service was exceptional.
We had some oysters and calamari to start. The calamari was cooked just right!
We had the seafood risotto amazing!!! I don’t usually eat risotto but this wanted me licking the plate. My spouse had the PEI Blue Dot Beef Tenderloin with the lobster mashed potato’s delicious.
Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes.
We will definitely go back!
The live music was depressing. Missing the live jazz and instrumental music
Outstanding! As always. Our favourite restaurant in Halifax.
The chef came over twice to ensure we were enjoying our meal and to chat about the Press Gangs background!
We had the Drill 5 different occasions but this one- the best one yet!!!
The atmosphere is so amazing at this restaurant
Fantastic meal, excellent service, wonderful ambience. Loved the live music!
It was really nice to be out in public again and to sit and dine inside a restaurant. We received top service. It was the best way to spend our anniversary!!!
We had the drill. It was very delicious with a good mix. The noise level was a little high but over it was a wonderful night out.
GreT meal as always and nice to be dining out again
Friendly staff and the atmosphere was perfect. Live music was perfect volume level for background noise but could carry on conversations.
One of our party is vegan and the chef prepared a special dish for her because nothing on the menu was vegan. He then came round our table to check that she was enjoying it. Our server was delightful and attentive. We will certainly be back here!
Everything was awesome, me and my wife had a blast very friendly service!!
Absolutely the best fine dinning in Halifax .
Chef Brian was amazing and a pure artist with our meals.
Can’t express enough the architecture he showed .
This restaurant is one of my favourite in Halifax. The food is always great and the service is terrific. Kudos to the whole team - we appreciate the experience!
Probably the best Nova Scotia inspired food in Halifax.
We ordered the chefs Drill. It was a four course cornucopia of absolute decadence.
Ever single course was a mouth watering delight, perfectly prepared. I thought the Value was bang on for the price. Very Funky restaurant.
Our server was less than enthusiastic, but covered the basis ok.
I highly recommend this fabulous restaurant and suggest taking the leap and trying the Chefs Drill.
Always fantastic food and so delicious! Love the feel from the ambience and the history of the building and architecture. It was nice to be able to have a nice conversation and hear yourself think, until a group of younger women came in and began talking so loudly.
Amazing atmosphere and staff. Musician was amazing. Ordered the Drill and the food was so good. Will be back
We had a lovely private table near the window and the heater! Food was excellent, service excellent!
Fantastic food and entertainment. Bartender was amazing as well.
I was giving my girlfriend "the Ring". I chose this place not only for its ambiance and great food, but because we were here on our first date years ago. We were not disappointed. We had the delicious oysters - we expected the usual shucked oysters with various toppings, but these ones were baked and had bacon and other flavours. Delish! Our entrees were clones because the Seafood Risotto jumped up into both of our faces from the menu. OMG! 4 different types of seafood, on the side, with a creamy and most delicious risotto. I sampled a piece of each of the four seafood types: shrimp, lobster, halibut, and scallop. Normally I would have said lobster or scallop as the best, but wow, that halibut was amazingly fresh and well spiced/cooked, so it was my fave that night. Our dessert was the peanut butter/chocolate super decadent dessert - no need to say more! Our server, Lindsay, was amazing - she was most attentive and friendly, yet not too attentive. And when she found out why we were there, she brought us a complimentary flute of champagne....we didn't ask for this, she did that on her own. Many thanks! On top of this, the two-man band played a variety of great tunes at a nice sound level. All in all a fantastic choice for our special occasion.
