It was amazing! We were very impressed with our server who was very knowledgeable and friendly. Our food was delicious, hot, and ample. Press Gang continues to live up to its excellent reputation! Fantastic night.
We had the drill and loved the variety and quality of every course! The waiter gave excellent wine pairings and the service was amazing. The music was at a perfect level and suited the venue well.
Always wanted to try and finally got there. The ambience is cozy, charming and intimate. Even with a small live band you can carry on a conversation. Escargot were good but too much sauce and feta hid the flavour of escargot. The pieces of baguette you got with the escargot had a walnut pesto topping. Wow! The lamb was done perfectly. The flourless chocolate cake was creamy and moist. Expensive but knew this before going. It was a special occasion.
Beautiful old building. We had the seafood risotto, was one of the best we have ever had. The calamari appetizer was abundant and delicious!
Incredible food, lovely atmosphere, server could have been friendlier. Will definitely go back though,
Every course was fantastic. Our server was wonderful. Has been my favourite Halifax restaurant for many years and this latest trip confirms it again.
I am a hospitality professional, and I have never had such good service before. 10/10, would recommend.
We went for the first time and had a fantastic evening. The food was divine and the atmosphere was perfect.
Fish matched with spicy side, diminished fish taste
Tenderloin was below expectation a little grizzily
Amazing food, service and entertainment- great night out!
The food was phenomenal. No complaints about anything on the plate, delicious. The service was great aside from the amount of time it took us to get our bill, but that happens so overall was a great experience.
Really nice touch that the waiter was knowledgeable of the historical facts of the establishment and was a passionate story teller. It made for a nicer dining experience.
Back to form after (for us) a not altogether fine dining experience earlier in the pandemic. Pleased to say the manager’s response, and our follow up experience was in line with the excellence we’ve come to count on. Thank you for special evening.
The drill was amazing. I highly recommend it for any adventurous food lovers!
We dined as a party of 4 on February 5th to celebrate my husbands birthday. Everything from start to finish was outstanding as usual. Our waiter was very attentive, the food was out of this world and to top off the evening, chef came and spoke with us for a bit. We can’t wait for our next visit to our all time favourite restaurant in Halifax!
Food was delicious, ambience was great and the music was a nice treat!
It was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
My wife and I went to the Press gang for dinner on a Saturday (8.15pm) and the place was fairly full with a live band playing - our assigned table was right next to the duo so we asked for a different location and were taken to a small alcove in the corner out of the way, very cozy! The oysters are always good in the PG and we tried all types for a starter - the lamb (both) was excellent and we shared a decent cheese board. Our waiter was very attentive and we did not feel rushed. The chef popped round (every table not just us) to ask if we enjoyed it - nice. We were there until it closed at 10 and had a lovely time. We have been to the PG for drinks and oysters before but not for a meal - we will definitely be back.
Terrific food and service, with really nice live entertainment. A Great night!
We were in a side room that has less atmosphere than main room. Once more tables /patrons were seated atmosphere in there warmed up
We had a fantastic anniversary dinner! The ambience was perfect, the food was superb and the service was exemplary. The evening passed at a nice pace. We would definitely recommend to friends and return ourselves.
Always an amazing experience at the Press Gang! Can’t get better service, and the food is outstanding:)
Lovely evening, super food, great service.... very good COVID protocols.
We had the chefs special. Lamb, tenderloin, scallops, shrimp and haddock were all done to perfection. Served on a platter that made the the perfect meal for 2.
Had a wonderful evening at the Press Gang. The food was wonderful, the service was second to none and the entertainment (Joe Butcher) was great! Look forward to our next visit!!
All staff wore masks and were still extremely friendly and efficient. The table spacing left us lots of room to feel comfortable and really enjoy our meal. There was some live music at the end of the evening which was fun. I loved everything that came to our table. It was all so delicious and well presented. Also they have a lovely selection of Ports and the table loved the whiskey flights.
Awesome Food. Love the cheese and meat board and seafood risotto.
Rich our server is a stand out at PG...great stuff. Food and drink and music were excellent
Great restaurant for ambiance with its granite stone walls, heavy wooden beams and wooden floors; candles are allowed to burn so the wax drips down the edges on to the stone...it all makes for a great atmosphere. This restaurant does not disappoint with its selection of oysters, the food and the service is exemplary, however, if you have anyone suffering with mobility issues then careful consideration must be made.
Best selection of oysters in the city, cocktails are artfully prepared. The charcuterie tray is beautiful and plentiful, we loved the fact that there was real grated horseradish and traditional minuet on the oyster tray. The Halibut and risotto and the seafood risotto were perfect; the chips with the works in our opinion is overpriced given that at the end of the day it is after all hand cut fries/onion, sage stuffing/ cheese curds, peas/gravy and cranberry sauce...a feel good meal but still does not warrant such high price tag....must say though - delicious! The staff are most accommodating and professional, great service. We opted for three desserts; the pumpkin cheesecake, the sticky toffee pudding and the peanut butter pie....wow, they were all outstanding and worth saving room for.
The real only negative and observation made was that this is not a restaurant for people who have have the misfortune of suffering with mobility issues. The bathrooms are up stairs and are small (wheelchair accessibility is non existent); while this is an historic property there still should be some thoughtful consideration to retrofitting it for those who have mobility issues and certainly the elderly; especially nowadays when we are more aware of the plight of others; restaurants that do not do so alienate others and even limit events because if someone cannot manage stairs they cannot attend. Many historical buildings have done so successfully without losing the integrity of the building. I hope the owner will consider doing this in the near future.
Great food with great company! Service was great.
A little pricy but the food is always amazing, nice plate presentation. Beautiful old building sets the stage for an eclectic atmosphere
We have been to Press Gang twice and each time has been amazing. This is officially our new spot. The live music on Saturday night was perfect. Not too loud and set the tone for the evening perfectly. The food is so good that I wish I had enough room to eat more of it.
Regardless of how my plate ended up, the food was delicious. The service was fantastic, especially during a busy night.
Amazing food and amazing service! Always so happy to eat here. This specific time was our anniversary, and they went above and beyond by giving us complimentary Champaign. 11/10 would recommend to anyone.
A very large selection of whiskies. Good sea food selection, and very good desserts too.
Service and ambient is amazing!
Great food, great ambience, very quiet. Very good wine selection by the glass. Definitely recommend it
Everything was good except the first water pitcher had stuff floating in it and the female server just left it on table didn’t pour any water in our cups. Once we asked for a new pitcher a new server took over for some reason and was exceptional. Not a complaint at all just want to elaborate on my experience here. Amazing burger week burger!
Burger week burgers!!
Enjoyed an excellent dinner at The Press Gang.
Nice and quiet too with some lovely background dinner.
Lovely candles to make it a romantic dinner.
Easy to make reservations on line too.
If you are looking for a special dinner, consider this restaurant.
Always nice to go for a meal here.
The main course and dessert plus coffee was excellent.
Looking forward to the next dinner at this fine dining restaurant
