About The Precinct
For Jeff Ruby, this is the steakhouse that started it all. In 1981, The Precinct was born in the former Cincinnati Police Patrol House Number 6. This turn-of-the-century, Romanesque-style structure would hold what is now the longest, continuously running white tablecloth restaurant in the city.
Recently named one of America's Top 10 Steakhouses by USA Today and Gayot.com, The Precinct is frequently recognized as having Cincinnati’s best steaks, seafood and service. This consistent high level of quality and overall guest experience over 3 decades has endeared Precinct to celebrities, businesspeople, families and loyal diners alike.

The Precinct Ratings and Reviews
We used to go to the Precinct on a fairly regular basis, but had not been in awhile. Our server was one that we used to have all the time and she was excellent, as always. The appetizers, salads and dessert were very good, but my husband's steak was just okay and the garlic mashed potatos were very dry. The manager was nowhere to be found and we discovered that half of my meal had not made it to box that I was bringing home for leftovers. We used to love coming to the Precinct, but other than our server, our experience was not what we would normally equate with a Ruby restaurant. Especially not for a $350 dinner
We love the precinct. We were disappointed that the truffle corn was no longer on the menu. We hope they bring it back! Our service wasn't as amazing as usual- the server brought our check before we were offered a dessert and coffee menu, so we had it ask for that. Steaks were delicious as usual, and the cheesecake is also delicious!
Everything was absolutely wonderful but I do however have one complaint. I ordered a cosmo and it was terrible. I don't believe that your bartender knows how to make a good cosmo because it was quite sour, and there is nothing in a cosmo that should cause it to be sour. If you use good vodka and contreau then you should get an excellent tasting cosmo (with good cranberry juice).
The Precinct was everything my husband and I hoped it would be. We saved for about a year to be able to have a special celebration here and it was worth it. The thing that set our experience above the bar was our server, Cory. He was awesome! Friendly and outgoing, knowledgable and passionate about The Precinct. HIGHLY recommend!
Another great evening at the Precinct! All steaks are great but the wagyu filet was amazing, especially after a Fire and Smoke Old Fashion! Mitch provided great service and we ended the evening after some cheesecake, with a nightcap in the bar as well! A great restaurant for any special or not so special occasion!
This was our second time visiting from Vancouver, Canada. We had such an amazing time last year, we had to come back. And once again, The Precinct did not disappoint. The wine was great and the food was even better. The Petite Lily was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning. Thanks so much for another amazing experience. We will be back.
This was my 2nd visit to the Precinct. The 1st time around I was wowed by the menu. This time not so much. The sides are all very basic and lack creativity and originality. Very standard fare for a steak house. What bothered me during this visit, was the lack of a grass-fed beef option. Considering the price point of this restaurant, I had hoped to have that choice while dining here this past week. An organic salad option would have been nice too.
I really love The Precinct and have always enjoyed the experience of dining there with two issues.
1. I spent almost $500 for dinner and STILL had to pay $5 to park my car...that’s ridiculous.
2. I travel the country and Canada and will tell you hands down that The Precinct is the MOST expensive steak out there short of Wagu and/or Kobe...to include NYC and others...
The staff was amazing!!! Jake Taylor was awesome and there were other waiters who came to visit the table and made it a wonderful experience for my family. Even took the time to show the kitchen to my 5 year old and made it a truly special night. Thank you!
It's the Precinct. Not much to say that hasn't been said. Service, food, environment, are all top of the line. The waiters were great. I had the Hatchet and it was probably the best steak I've had in my life. I've been to a lot of the top end steak houses over the years like Charley's, STK, the Palm, Prime 112, Ruth Chris, etc, and multiple trips to the Ruby restaurants, so thats saying something. The tenderness and flavor were unparalleled. As a point of comparison, my wife got the Lachey and next to the hatchet, it might as well came from a chain steakhouse. Not that it was bad, the hatchet was that much better. The downside, of course, is the price. At $119 the hatchet is not an easy purchase to make for just about anyone. Even for the Precinct's high end menu, it's a little over the top. That being said, if I had the menu in front of me now, it's what I would order, kids college fund be damned.
We finally visited the Precinct after being told multiple times it was the best steakhouse in Cincinnati, and it did not disappoint. The space has such a remarkable ambiance - the building is historic and just gorgeous, and service was incredible. I got the Collinsworth Steak - it was delightful. The husband got the Lachey, and he loved it as well. The crab cake appetizer was fantastic. The servers and helpers were all friendly and it was just a treat. The entire experience was quite wonderful, and I am looking forward to going back again. The next opportunity you get to celebrate something, this should be your top option. I would reserve ASAP, as it fills up quickly. It is obviously on the expensive side of things, but it is 100% worth it if you can swing it and have a reason to celebrate... Or, if you just want to get dressed up and go for a nice dinner, I highly recommend!
