About The Precinct
For Jeff Ruby, this is the steakhouse that started it all. In 1981, The Precinct was born in the former Cincinnati Police Patrol House Number 6. This turn-of-the-century, Romanesque-style structure would hold what is now the longest, continuously running white tablecloth restaurant in the city.
Recently named one of America's Top 10 Steakhouses by USA Today and Gayot.com, The Precinct is frequently recognized as having Cincinnati’s best steaks, seafood and service. This consistent high level of quality and overall guest experience over 3 decades has endeared Precinct to celebrities, businesspeople, families and loyal diners alike.

The Precinct Ratings and Reviews
My first experience at The Precinct was absolutely perfect. The service was great from the Hostess, to the server, to the two managers that checked on us. My girlfriend got the AJ Green (medium) with a baked potatoe and a Freddie salad. I got the collinsworth (medium) with garlic mashed potatoes and a Freddie salad. We each had a few drinks and the overall cost wasn't too bad for the quality of service and food. We both agree that this is one of the best, if not the best dinner we've ever had. Highly recommend. 10/10
I have been to Jeff Ruby's before but the atmosphere of the Precinct was AMAZING!! Our server was Sue and she had the best recommendations you could have asked for not to mention her outstanding attention to detail and the way she took care of us. Will definitely be back when in Cincinnati.
First time I've ever been there. Everything was outstanding. The atmosphere was classy, yet relaxed enough to be quite comfortable. Food was absolutely perfect. Service was also top rate, but still personable and comfortable. Every employee was friendly, attentive and easily engaged in casual conversation. All while doing their tasks in a very professional manner. My only suggestion is I personally would prefer the bread to be warmer than room temperature. Which would also make the cold butter a bit easier to manage. All food was prepared perfectly, presented well and could not have been any better. I'm certainly looking forward to our next visit. We will be returning.
Excellent food.... very impressed
Service was top notch
Tables are WAY to close to each other. Cram packed in the place. Constantly had servers and customers either leaning over our table to let people get bye or bumping chairs trying to get in and out. I delayed going to the bathroom having to wait until I got a free path through the tables. Seems like a minor deal until you have to wait 5 min just to get up.
The seating would have probably been a better experience (for first time). Smaller tables made for us to hear everyone’s conversation. The pipe next to me was sweating and dripping on my arm. The menus were larger than the table so two is overload. I loved the presentation of the fish being deboned. Meal was good but nothing to brag about. First impression of the restaurant was “precinct”. Ole gansta! Kinda cool...until I got mushed into a table in high traffic area. Glad I experienced this restaurant, been on bucket list for a while. Thanks for asking
The steaks were excellent and there was a good variety of side orders. The service was exceptional. The staff provided good recommendations, were attentive but also provided us time to talk, enjoy the meal and not feel rushed. Highly recommend for special occasions.
Excellent food, exceptional service, beautiful decor. All of this is eclipsed by the cramped quarters and physically uncomfortable dining experience. The gorgeous red velvet booths are not meant for a family of four adults. It was comical watching the service staff juggling oversized menus, utensils, goblets, bottles, etc, on a petite table that already had a candle, salt and pepper, sugars, etc. I’m sure Jeff Ruby isn’t going to go broke by us not returning.
We just moved here from Chicago and are looking for the right kind of steak place and we found it in The Precinct. What a great place with skilled and experience service and an expansive menu with fresh shellfish for appetizers and then great steaks. We will go back soon.
Seating was right by a mirror, and my girlfriend and i had no privacy due to the other table was 3 ft away from us. I dont care to spend money on high quality food, however my ribeye was not very good. My girlfriend said her ny strip was really good though. I will not be back to this place anytime soon.
I have been spoiled living in the area for most of my life. When i visit a Jeff Ruby restaurant I expect a certain level of quality and service. My most recent visit was right up there with all of my others visits to the Ruby family of restaurants. I would recommend the Precinct to anyone looking for food, for any reason, even if they're just hungery! They willbe hooked as I am with this establishment!
We were a bit nervous being our first time there and not knowing what to expect. Once our host arrived (Kris) we were at ease in moments! Everything went perfect. We were surprised by a champagne toast to celebrate our special day. We never ever felt rushed and was even treated with Jeff Ruby’s special cheesecake to bring the evening to a close. Thought this would be a one time event but we’re already looking forward to returning!! Thank you Jeff Ruby for a very special evening!!
It took us 2 months to book this reservation through OpenTable. That was the earliest we could get into the restaurant. It was kind of nice to get out and relax from all the hustle and bustle of the holiday weekend. The time was a little late (8:30) to eat but they didn't make us wait to be seated which was awesome. When we showed up we were seated in less than 5 minutes in a booth that I requested at the time of reserving. They were very attentive to us and they were hustling around because it was BUSY. Every person that came to our table was very friendly and making sure we were comfortable. Their staff was on it that night. The food was awesome as usual. I wouldn't expect anything different. As we were leaving, the HEAD MANAGER was in the lobby shaking everyone's hand as they left. I can say that of all the restaurants that we go to, which is a lot since I don't cook, that was the first time that I really felt special and HE made us feel that way . I will always go to this Jeff Ruby establishment. I definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone.
