Opened in April 2007, The Portrait House is an award-winning restaurant that is committed to excellence in all areas. Formerly a bank and photography studio, the site is a listed building that has been beautifully refurbished to keep its stylish original features. The Portrait House is open from 12pm, 7 days a week, so it"s the perfect venue whether you're dropping in for a light lunch or arranging a memorable night out.
Begin your visit in the luxurious bar area with pre (or post) dinner drinks served by our award winning staff. Then make your way to the spacious dining room where you will be able to indulge in fantastic international cuisine as well as an extensive collection of wines from around the world. Having won "Professional Waiting On Team" and "Chef of the Year" numerous times as well as many others, you know the staff both in the kitchen and on the floor will be striving to cater to all your needs.

    Our table appeared cramped, we asked for a different table but were told we couldn't move, no explanation given. We had to ask for a drinks menu and vegetarian menu. Our skin on chips were burnt in places, the morrocan cous cous side dish was cold, not presented very well, looked like it had been thrown in to the dish. On a positive note, the wine was chilled and good value for a restaurant. This visit was disappointing, having been once before when it was excellent. Would probably not go there again, sorry. It's a good job we had a voucher for 50% off food as it wasn't worth the full price.

    Have visited the Portrait House most times when I am in Hoylake, and it is always reliably good.

    Lovely restaurant been there many times and never disappointed. The fillet steak, black pudding and chorizo salad was lovely, followed by the duck. The portrait mess was lovely filled with fresh fruit. Staff very welcoming and polite. Yes I would definitely recommend and will return soon.

    This really is a gem of a restaurant. Lovely food, fine wines and really nice ambiance.

    We had a most enjoyable evening suiting both meat eaters and vegetarians . The steak was outstanding and veg option really excellent . The service was exceptional and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and family.

    Normally ok but this time the service slow, was 45 minutes wait for starter, courses came intermittently with my wife's starter 5 minutes before mine. They got the bill wrong and added someone else's drinks onto our bill.

    Lovely meal for a friend's birthday, welcomed by Sally and the meal cooked by Adam, what more could be asked. It was welcoming, friendly, good service and superb food

    Booked a meal for 10 to celebrate birthday with girlfriends. We were seated in the round booths, which was perfect for the group, allowing everyone to be involved in all the chatter and celebrations. We were welcomed and not rushed at all. We enjoyed drinks at the bar, before being shown to our table. The food was excellent, my steak cooked perfectly as requested, the portions plenty and the vegetable options came with a twist. None of the party could manage a dessert after eating starters and main but finished off with coffees and were the last to leave. Thoroughly enjoyed the night, the waitresses were very attentive and helpful and the restaurant was full, so ambience good. off

    Not great really, steak not cooked as asked, chips came after steak finished and drinks order delayed. Did not feel like a valued customer maybe because we had a 50% voucher which was very nice to have, would of been very disappointed if we had to pay full price.
