Everything was perfect! Our meal was delicious and very interesting. I’m can only drink gluten free vodka and no sugar mix- they had a cucumber drink with Tito’s vodka that was perfect.
We were celebrating Christmas with our adult children after dinner went to
Jimmy’s and enjoyed the music and the pub atmosphere.
Very nice restaurant in the basement of a historic building. The price isn’t that bad until you discover everything is ala carte. No sides or salads included with the entree. Food was unique and good though.
Not as good as it has been in years past. For years we have went and always found the meal and experience to be be impeccable. My beet salad was plain; rest of the meal was very good, just not what it used to be. Their menu appears to have lost its artistic flair, maybe their chef has moved on?
Food was pretty good. I liked my filet, my husband did not care for the prime rib. Nothing comes with the dood, so that was
disappointing because sides were expensive. Also, they did not have our reservation when we got there even though I made a reservation through open table. We were lucky it wasn't busy and got in, but worried that will happen again. Overall it was a good experience.
My wife and I booked a large room at the St James Hotel and a dinner at The Port. Our waitress (AMY) was fantastic. She was the type of professional that didn't need to write anything down, knew the menu, and got it correct. She was there when you needed a refill or such, and left you alone when you didn't need anything. And.....they made her bus her own tables. We gave her a BIG tip.
Now for The Port. We both had filet mignon, Caesar salad and a shrimp cocktail for an appetizer. There were four large shrimp with tails in a cocktail glass with sauce. The shrimp was some of the best we've tasted in some time.
The Caesar salad was about five leaves spread out with some "bacon" like grilled pork fat topped with a poached egg. Very odd. There wasn't much to it and it only tasted all right. Not great. I'd much rather have had a traditional Caesar salad.
The Filet Mignon was on the small side, but tasted good. It was served with a half sliced tomato topped with Parmesan bread crumbs. It again was all right.
The desert was a white chocolate cheese cake and a chocolate lava cake. Both tasted good.
The bill was $128.00; we expected more for this price.
The Port is in the basement of the St James Hotel and the ambience was all right. The chairs were terrible. The cushions were in desperate need of replacing because the padding was so worn out. It was uncomfortable sitting there for an hour to eat a nice meal.
The St James Hotel used to have the Victoria Room, which was some of the best dining around. It paid driving down from the cities to have a nice meal. This dining room is no longer there. Pity.
All in all; The Port needs to "up" their game.
The dining area was a very romantic setting. enjoyed the intimacy. The food was good. The service was excellent!
Disappointed. The item my wife wanted from the menu was not available. The waitress seemed disappointed that we were not in a hurry to leave. Chairs were extremely uncomfortable.
The most tender filet mignon I have ever experienced. A good menu with a small but perfect selection for anyone. I enjoy scotch, and they had a few Islay distillery notable favorites. The atmosphere is just right, no screaming children, great service, and overall an interesting place to dine. No negatives, I look forward to making this a frequent destination before shows at the Sheldon Theater. A1+.
The food was not good. My husband ordered the NY strip and had to send it back. He could not eat it. Our Caesar salads had 4 pieces of lettuce with 1/2" strip of side park, a poached egg, all on top a piece of their toasted bread. Mash potatoes were terrible. We will not go back----great atmosphere to have just a drink.
It's hard to say enough about this place -- we loved it. It was a special date-night for us and we may have had some pent-up demand, but it was great. We started with a glass of wine at the bar and then migrated to a perfectly comfortable and quaint dining area where we ordered oysters (my wife LOVED them), port fries (tasty -- appropriate for sharing), a beet salad (nice size, subtle dressing, very tasty), Osso Buco (pork shank) that was to die for and Farratto ( as Faro-based risotta like grain) that was phenomenal. We ordered two desserts as well and honestly loved every bite of every dish.
We will definitely be going back -- and it's a 1 hour drive (and worth it).
