The food was average for what is a local pub. Pricing was high, especially wine. I would not visit again as there are similar pubs with better quality food at lower prices.

Great decor after the refurbishment, lovely food, lively ambiance. We were only a little disappointed we were waiting 90 mins between starter and main course.

Fantastic quality burger and bubble and squeak. We went on a Monday lunchtime, restaurant was closed and the bar was quiet. We will aim to go when its busier and if we are in the area

We stayed overnight at the pointer - rooms beautiful and very comfortable. The staff here are fantastic extremely friendly and helpful especially the manager Peter. Starter was disappointing but main courses of lamb and sirloin steak where fantastic along with the breakfast - will definitely return

The food was disappointing - the crackling on the pork wasn't crispy, the batter on the fish was stodgy, the black pudding scotch egg didn't have any black pudding. This was a pity as the setting, service and ambiance would have warranted another visit. Unless the food improves we will not be coming again.

The Pointer has changed hands. New owners are trying to create a pub feeling. Too many tables in the bar area£4.50 for bread and Boril butter! Waitress spilt wine on the table and left it for us to mop up
Didn't enjoy our first visit since re-opening.

Good ambience and excellent bar and serving staff. Food was good , but not as special as the price would suggest. To much heavy batter on the fish, and less than perfect chips . Apart from that fine

Food good but could be improved. Dessert sundae was not really a sundae only ice cream with brownie on the bottom and no cream. Service so slow people were cancelling their dessert orders.

Lovely supper. One of has beef cheeks and one the burger. While two of us had the cauliflower steaks. All excellent quality. Puddings were delightful especially the Autumn berry trifle with Amaretto. The molten lava mud cake was gorgeous. Good service and discreet. Would definitely go back as we have previously had a very good Sunday lunch there as well.

Came with high hopes after a refurbishment but left disappointed. The food wasn’t bad but nowhere near where it was a few years ago. The comfy sofas in the bar have been replaced by (too many) rough pub chairs and tables, likely to create more covers, but with only two staff to do all the serving and the bar, it seemed rather pointless and it had reached the level of joking with other customers about the delays. I’m not going to criticise those working there as they were obviously doing the best they could but whoever owns/manages this establishment needs to take a long, hard look at what they want achieve. There are plenty of much better places in every respect around the local area...

There are problems with the layout, of course; the two rooms are far apart and all the life is at the front (where we were not offered a table). But even at the back things could be improved by curtains on the windows and rugs on the floor, which would certainly make the room warmer in feeling. The young woman who was serving was willing, but seemed to have had little or no training, and was not a natural animator. The kitchen is very noisy -- the bel should be unnecessary. It was unpleasant for our companions to see the chef reproving the young server in the dining room itself. The chef seems to me a problem: starters have been improved, but the choice of main courses is very limited and dull. Prices remain high in relation to quality. I op[ted for the burger in desperation. It wasn't bad. The handcut chips weren't bad either, but they weren't remarkable either. The Pheasant offers specials along with a rather more varied and balanced basic menu (fish!). The Pointer should do the same. The wine list is still hopeless. It shouldn't be necessary to say that vintage information is basic; not to provide it for a wine which is over £50 a bottle is a sign of indifference in the highest degree. All these things could be set right without much trouble. I hope they will be, as it would be nice to have a choice of places to go to in Brill. That's why we gave the Pointer another try now the management has changed -- but it does need more change.

Second time at The Pointer, this time in the rear restaurant area which is a bit quieter than the pub area so more suited to a fine dining experience, although we loved the ambience of the pub but got to see the workings of the kitchen this time which was very jolly, quite the opposite of a Ramsay-run kitchen. The food was lovely, as usual, tried the lamb this time which was delicious. We had an unfortunate glass breakage which resulted in one of the meals being contaminated with glass, which was immediately replaced without us even asking. Top marks for service, food and ambience.

We had breakfast here as it was on route to Magdalen College, Oxford University where my son was starting as a fresher. The bar has been recently updated/refreshed. It was exceptionally clean, the staff were very welcoming and attentive. We could help ourselves to freshly baked pastries & fresh orange juice. I ordered the full English which was memorable and my son had eggs benedict which were cooked to his liking. We were so impressed by the Pointer as well as the village of Brill the we plan to return for Sunday lunch in a few days. Dogs welcome in the bar area and the 8 bedrooms.

Booked a table here as we were staying overnight at the Pointers. Arrived a little early for our table but were taken to our table without a problem. Ordered our starter which came quickly, as did the other courses. Each course was delicious. All the dishes we had were cooked well and each had interesting twists to the more traditional pub meals that are usually on offer at other pubs. Plenty of colour, flavours and textures. I had the belly pork which was cooked to perfection, it was so tender. The service was excellent, all the staff were friendly and enthusiastic. The whole place a real gem! Would definitely visit again.

The new menu under the new ownership is very rich and heavy: mostly red meat with little variation. Our son-in-law thought it was wonderful but we should have preferred more lighter options. The cooking is sound but far less ambitious than before. The bread (a litmus test for good eateries now) was dry and lacking in flavour.
The newly refurbed dining room full of hard surfaces had a lot of reflected noise making it difficult to hear what the waiters and our family were saying and I have very good hearing.
So for ourselves (60s couple down the hill) we are likely to take friends there less often than before unless the menu becomes more balanced.

We arrived at 7.30, the time we booked for dinner and met with an oh let me check with the chef. Not a great start. Service was very poor but could not blame the waitress as she seemed all on her own and very inexperienced. Two drinks arrived in a reasonable time line, but the wine took 30 minutes from ordering and then when it arrive it was the wrong bottle, when the correct bottle arrived we had all finished our starters. No apologises were forth coming, as soon as the plates were cleared the main course arrived .
The pork was terrible and dry and very disappointing. The fish and chips average at best and the burger over salted. The chips tripled cook umm I would say reheated and very dry . To sum up what have they done after they have reopened lost all the quality food and service they once had? Anyway we have booked again for a birthday in October but this will be cancelled as below average food and service you can get from many places . Such a shame.

We had a lovely meal. The sausage roll was gorgeous and light. As were the pork bonbons. The main course of the Pointer burger was great. Maybe, a touch of seasoning away from being top, top quality. The desert.......incredible. The cubes of cake were awesome and overall the dish was very light.

Can’t wait to go back!!

Having been disappointed on our wedding anniversary with a terrible meal for which we were not charged, I thought I'd give the Pointer another go as it was now under new management. Despite having Open Table confirm our booking, I arrived with my three guests to celebrate my birthday, only to be told that they were not serving meals that evening as it was their opening night after re-furbishment. As usual , no apology from management. I went to the Mole and Chicken in Easington who fitted us in nd subsequently had a lovely evening and meal. I'll never go to the Pointer again...

Another very disappointed customer, also booked online and received a confirmation email. Ditto previous reviewer, builders informed us that the pub was undergoing a refurbishment. They also told us they had sent several customers away that day, not very good for business. No information displayed outside explaining the ongoing works or indeed when due to reopen. Poor.

Sent a complaint to the email address, so far no reply.....!!

SO DISAPPOINTED!!!
My husband took the day off work so we could enjoy a family roast for our daughter’s birthday. We arrived at The Pointer to be greeted by a load of builders. The whole place was being renovated. There was another family there too all dressed up as we were. The builders said we were the 8th family to arrive that day that they had to turn away

I can’t believe The Pointer haven’t suspended their bookings. There isn’t even a notice on their website. I’ve also tried to email them through their website but it won’t send

Awful customer service!!! Looking at their other reviews since changing hands it’s all gone downhill anyway

Had sunday lunch here with the family. Delicious meal, I had pork, my wife had beef, both delicious. Only feedback would be more vegetables, we had a tiny bit if red cabbage plus a small spoon of swede (?) and cauliflower cheese. I'd like something green! Kids had a good meal, great fish and chips, perhaps the sausage and mash could have been bigger.
Staff friendly, dog friendly, clean and very nice atmosphere.

Sadly the Pointer has new management since my last visit. The service was not great, the waiting staff did not seem to know the menu and certainly one had only just started to work at the venue.

In the past they served complimentary freshly made bread in paper bags. Now they charge £3 for a couple of slices of doughy white bread which wasn't very nice.

I had to ask twice for a glass of wine that I had ordered which eventually came in the middle of the main course.

My steak was quite tough and stringy. I complained and they did give us deserts free of charge which was appreciate.

The general ambiance was not the same as my last visit.

It is such shame this used be a lovely place to eat.
