The manager had suggested Fore Street in downtown Portland to other diners for other nights; we had been there and though it was good, enjoyed this more. It was a classical white tablecloth dinner with attentive service. Our neighbors thought the oysters too briny, which seemed a good thing to me. Our meals were very good. The breading on the Cod was something to emulate; my Haddock with pickled beets was delicious. We had just come down from Cape Elizabeth and were happy to find so good a meal away from Portland.

BPI is one of our favorite seasonal dining options. Location is wonderful, although we typically eat at the more casual Chart Room. On this occasion, however, we wanted to thank a friend on a special occasion. We were called ahead of time by someone at the Point to "remind" us of the dress code. And I was told that we could not wear sandals. Our guest and my wife had been planning on wearing capris and dress sandals, very appropriate for the 80-degree temp. But they changed plans, and we were all "appropriate". Interestingly, there were women dining in sandals and dresses that night. We almost said something then, but decided the review might be a better place.

Our meal was nice, as we would expect. The service was wonderful, as we have experienced in the past. And we will certainly be back again, but we will likely stay with the plebeians in The Chart Room.

The Point was totally devoid of people so we moved to the Grill Room. You can order from both menus in the Grill Room. Beautiful sunset from that part of the Inn. Time your visit so that you may take advantage of the 30-40 minute walk along the shore. That experience is certainly well worth a visit.

We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and felt The Point Room was an excellent choice. The wait staff was attentive but not intrusive allowing us to have a leisurely dinner. Food was well presented and very tasty. Only issue was the potatoes were not hot, but they were incredibly delicious so temperature was easy to ignore. The amount of food was just right for us. Someone with a larger appetite might be left a little wanting. The dessert, a strawberry shortcake trifle, was lick-the-dish yummy, and I am usually not a huge dessert person.

We had a very nice experience. Oysters were great and haddock was well prepared. Filet mignon was up to par as was Caesar salad and onion soup. The dining room is elegant with lovely ocean views for some tables. Very quiet. Suited to adults and maybe teens with good manners. Servers were professional but not stuffy.

The Black Point Inn hit high marks on every level the evening we dined there. Beautiful evening to sit out on the deck; beautiful view, great waiter, who was knowledgeable about wine pairings. Food was superb, we watched the sun set. What more could you ask for???

A "No -fail" destination for those special dinners. Regretfully had a noisy table next to us but otherwise an absolutely superb evening. The Haddock dinner was perfectly prepared.

We were expecting a top quality meal, what we had was just mediocore. Air Conditioning was blasting when we arrived, felt like a meat locker. Signature cocktails were not very good. Soup and apetizer were good. Entre special of bacon wraped pork tasted like ham. Bacon was way too salty and overpowering.
We expected a dramatic view of the Ocean, instead we were in a back room of the Inn with just a slight view of the ocean out of the corner of the window. Far below expectations. Should have booked the Chart Room for far less money and much better view and experience.

everything was great on the outside porch except for our waitress. She was very nice but not efficient. No bread, like all other tables, no small plates to share our appetizers, late with drinks.

Was disappointed with restaurant - for the prices, expected more.. The service was very slowly paced- too slow. Only 4 other tables filled, so it was not too busy for staff. Ordered filet mignon med. rare, but came medium to med. well. Did not send back since I was too hungry waiting all that time. Husband had twin lobsters and he was very pleased. Clam chowder thickened with flour and not as good as many clam shacks.

A great place to enjoy a good meal. Overlooking Western and Pine Point beaches with the silhouette of Mt Washington on the background on a clear day.
Food and wine very good. My husband says the dirty martini was one of the best he's had!
