Everything is perfect for our anniversary dinner, yet the by-default 22% service charge was a bit scary and unexpected. Hope it can be set from 18%.
Food was tasty and the ambience and service was very nice as well. I felt the presentations could have been better . It was missing the WOW factor.
Great ambience, service was excellent. Servers were all attentive. Showed us the cellar even. Food was fine, but I've had better. Good value overall.
Great food coupled with extraordinarily poor service on Thanksgiving.
Great wine selection, but the food was not good. Nice presentation..... poor taste.
I could go to many restaurants and order and have food put in front of me and the server walks away but the reason I chose to go to PH and pay as much as I did for a tasting menu is to fully enjoy what the chef created and the wine pairing. I go to a lot of tasting menus and at each one the servers will explain how a dish is prepared and the ingredients and the wine is poured with a description on how it was chosen to compliment the dish...what notes come through with each sip. It is what makes a tasting menu special and it is an appreciation of the chefs time in preparation. To pay as much as I did and have servers that made no attempt at descriptions is so disappointing. Even when I asked and tried to get them to tell me I would get the most insane answers completing lacking any knowledge. At one time I asked about the cabernet sauvignon and was told that "it is lighter than a pinot noir" and "red in color, not white". Seriously????? When I asked how a dish was prepared and the ingredients I was told," I cannot remember but I know it has a ton of butter in it". I kept thinking I was being pranked or something. I will be going to 11 Madison next week and I can be sure that this kind of thing will not happen there. Time to take away the Michelin stars from Plumed Horse. So very disappointing!
Because I cannot eat cow dairy, our tasting menu led to additional tastes prepared skillfuly by the chef. All of it very good and presented quite well. Wait staff was very attentive. We had champagne and caviar first which we didn't need. Also, I am not a wine specialist, so I can't speak to the pairing. The bill was quite high, generally above my range, but it was a very special occasion. I'd recommend to those who can afford it.
We celebrated our anniversary. The entire evening was absolutely amazing. All courses were of the highest quality and meticulously put together on the plate. The wain paring further enhanced the experience. My top pairing this time was the squab on mole paired with the Rosso di Montalcino, an incredible combination of tastes.
4 of us ordered the 8 course tasting menu. Each selection was distinct, bold, bright and surprising. The wine pairings were spot on. Service was exceptional. Our only criticism was the choice and volume of the music. Our group was jolted by the buzzy activity upon entering the back ( previously the bar) dining area. We think this exceptional dining experience deserves more elegance and refinement.
Food was excellent but big surprise as the only offering was the tasting menu. No price on the menu should have been our clue but waiters were coming and going and offering caviar… without saying it was extra and things got confusing. We asked and past on it when we were told it was extra. Regular water was $9 bottle. Bill was over $600 for two of us! We had no wine and only one alcoholic beverage. Each course consisted of two maybe three very small bites. Also added in was an automatic 22% tip!
Great cuisine! I would recommend it for a date and it's one of the best restaurants in the Bay Area.
Amazing as always. Hard to score “value”. Very expensive, of course, but nothing else compares. Food is incredible & the wine accompaniment truly fantastic. Never drive when I go here - too much incredible wine when you get the tasting menu with wine pairings which is the way to really experience this incredible place.
Fantastic night at the Plumed Horse. We ate inside and had the tasting menu - totally sublime. Nothing I write here could do justice to the flavors so suffice to say this was in every respect an outstanding experience! Service was spot on, great ambience in a classy dining room and of course the totally incredible food! Only one Michelin star? Seems like the Plumed Horse is ready for at least one more!
Food was as delicious as it looked. Lovely service. Seated in private room.
It was a phenomenal experience last night.
Manny, Maître D was absolutely Divine as well as Jeremy,
Will certainly recommend this place
Everything from service to the everyone taking our pictures was great.
Great restaurant, great service and great food!
The tasting menu was fabulous and atmosphere was lovely.
Inside only very expensive Tasting menu, outside rest of menu.
They need to disclose this clearly on their website.
Website has no menu, no prices
Dinner was great, and while the price was a bit higher than expected it was worth it and the service was impeccable. They provided a complimentary glass of champagne and gave a birthday candle for my girlfriends birthday. Happy with our dining experience.
Excellent meal, friendly staff, and an overall great experience. Highly recommended!
A flawless, above-and-beyond anniversary dinner! The food was outstanding, creative, and scrumptious, the service was attentive and professional, the outdoor seating was the perfect temperature and distance from other diners, and both the waitstaff and the chef went out of their way to help our night be extra-special. Thank you so much, Plumed Horse!
Amazing service, very friendly staff, and the food and cocktails were incredible. I would highly rec visiting this restaurant if ever in Saratoga.
We went to celebrate a family birthday. There was just a tasting menu (8 courses). We decided not to go with the matching wine courses (but we had wine). The first 3 servings were great (especially a cheese soufflé), but then the quality slipped.
The service was great, but eating tiny pieces of overpriced meat is probably not for me. The two desert courses did not impress me that much either, although I did appreciate a final gift of small chocolates with Champaign.
The food was not bad, but years ago, on a regular menu, I enjoyed the food far more.
The food is amazing, the dishes are well thought out, but so is the layout of courses. The wine is impeccable. The staff are well versed as to what goes on the dishes. If you are a foodie or gourmand The Plumed Horse is a must. You won’t leave stuffed, but you will satiated.
Taste and ambiance was mediocre! I was expecting better from a michelin star restaurant!!
Food was fantastic and service was wonderful.. a really lovely evening !
Great for family, especially with an infant. We were in the private dining room so we can see the kitchen and our baby won’t disturb others. The service is very pleasant!
Went last night for our anniversary and we could not be more happy that we did. We ordered the chiefs list which is an 8 course meal. Totally worth it. Would definitely recommend this place for special occasions.
The food was so eclectic , the ambience and service were outstanding!
The Plumed Horse is one of our favorite fine dining restaurants -- and has been for many years. We always look forward to the experience, knowing that it will be top-notch in every way. A skilled staff of maître d's, servers and sommeliers, especially Manny and Jeffery, offer the best service on the planet. The wine list is extensive. The cuisine uniquely pleasurable every time. What more could anyone ask for when it comes to a special night out?
Service was really good! A bit crowded to be honest
This is was the worst dining experience we've ever had. Terrible service, terrible care, mediocre and overpriced food. Here's how it started. Our server knew as soon as we sat down that we had 90 minutes before we had to leave for a play. It took 55 minutes to get dinner rolls (cold in the middle), an hour to get our appetizer and an 75 minutes to get only one of our two entrees -- and it was cooked incorrectly -- fish that was nearly raw in the middle when we ordered it well done/firm. Even though we were nearly out of time (and had to leave in 15 minutes), they wanted us to wait for the second entree even though no one knew when it would be served. With 1-0 minutes to spare, we finally just cancelled the entrees and got the check. The server finally told us that their ticket machine in the kitchen wasn't working and that's why nothing had come out, but we couldn’t figure out why no one checked for us. She never apologized, never tried to take care of us. The "second in command" was angry that we didn't like the bottle of wine he had recommended, and was incredibly rude and arrogant. We explained our many issues to him and his only response was offensive — he had opened a second bottle of wine for us and that they had done "everything they possibly could have for us" -- which was absolutely nothing. We asked to talk with the General Manager, who was on a "conference call" and couldn't be bothered to talk with his customers. Restaurants make mistakes but the appalling thing about this restaurant, was that they can't be bothered to apologize for bad food, bad experiences, lack of care. We had no dinner, no apology and no one trying to make it right. Shame on this restaurant for its arrogance, its lack of care for its customers. P. S. The champagne they poured us was a retail $13.99 bottle of Charles Armand Blanc de Blanc Brut — not even sold there. Rated 3.1 on the Vivino app. Really? Michelin star?
All food is great
As always superb! We always celebrate at “the Horse” and as always the experience was stellar. Thanks to all!
We had the outdoor dining where the prices were a little more than expected. I chose this place because it was on the OpenTable Michelin star guide for the South Bay. I would like to start with the positives, service was very courteous and this is only my third fine dining experience. They were very polite and nice when my friend’s food was not cooked right. We had the beef tenderloin where mine was cooked perfect to medium rare but hers was more medium well to well done. They refired and sliced it in half to make sure which was a little odd because it was close to raw in the center because they cooked it on high heat (outside was greyish brown while the center still had the meat marbling and white lines when it’s uncooked). They gave us dessert to make up for it but for the price we paid, I definitely prefer The Sea in Palo Alto for fine dining. I definitely left with something more to be desired as dishes are very small and unfilling even with an appetizer (Maine lobster tail). It was a nice experience being in downtown Saratoga, but this might be a one time thing.
Awesome food and service as usual
Excellent food and service. Carefully selected ingredients with great flavor combinations. Well attentive and friendly staff going out of their way to make it a special meal.
