The Plumed Horse Ratings and Reviews
This Michelin* restaurant consistently hits the spot for us ‘foodies’!
We appreciate the seasonal, local food, choices on the menu & ability to cater to 'faddy' diets/allergens. Also, the friendly, attentive & knowledgeable waiters/sommeliers are everything you expect without being pretentious (!)
Amazing choice of European fine wines as well as the usual Californian. LOVE the contemporary wine list on the I-Pad!
How very ‘Silicon Valley'.
The contemporary, elegant dining room, which, along with the low lighting, makes for a beautiful ambience.
If you are only having drinks in the bar – do share the truffles fries, YUM!
And, for those who want to splurge: try the 1780 Madiera ;-)
We had dinner here on Saturday evening and I will never again dine at this establishment. We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation. We tried to order a bottle of wine from their wine list and 20 minutes later told it was not available. They gave us a more updated wine list and 20 minutes later learned our 2nd choice was also not available. By the time our wine arrived (45 minutes later) we were only then asked what we would like to eat. We waited 90 min from when we sat down to when our appetizer arrived. A 2 course meal (appetizer and entree) took 2 1/2 hours to complete. The service was terrible. The kitchen was painfully slow. We eat out at 5 star restaurants alot and I have never had such a bad experience. Save your $
Celebrated my late father's birthday here, as he had many fond memories of the restaurant. The food was delicious (as expected). The decor was very nouveau (think perfectly manicured tables, cherrywood floors, colored fiber optic light sculptures suspended from the ceiling, antique finished mirror walls and a stellar glass wine cellar that was lit from within) and the service was impeccable. I had a team of staff waiting on the table, who never left a glass empty, or a finished plate sitting on the table for more than 10 seconds, and was able to answer any question.
$250 for a dinner for two (including a great bottle of bubbly) but truly a treat and definitely will be back.
This was our second time in three years at the Plumed Horse to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It did not disappoint. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing. The food was exquisite and the pairing excellent. Service is very friendly and professional. At first I felt that the wine portions were a bit skimpy but after drinking so many different wines during the course of the meal I appreciated the fact that I was not tipsy. A great dining experience!
We hadn't been to the Plumed Horse since they remodeled, but we're certainly glad we revisited it and we WILL be back. The chef's tasting menu was wonderful...standouts were the halibut in a porcini reduction, the bison filet with yams and padron peppers, and the peach souffle with olive oil creme fraiche. We also did the wine pairing which was fine, but not amazing. The service was very attentive and friendly, and they gave us 2 glasses of champagne to celebrate our anniversary which was a nice touch. Definitely pricey, but a great choice for special occasions. One thing to note: $8 valet parking is only worth it if it's a busy night downtown. If not, there are plenty of free spots on the street.
what a fantastic dining experience. tremendous food. we brought our own wine, but could have chosen anything from the great list. wait staff were attentive and yet we felt as if we were the only ones in the restaurant.
valet parking is available. expect a wonderful meal, great ambiance, and plan to linger.
For a Michelin-star restaurant, the service was very uneven compared to the last time we were there. The waiter gave my wife a black napkin since she had on a dark skirt, but left me with a white napkin even though I had a dark suit on. The caviar service (which we had to ask for while drinking champagne) had only one spoon for the two of us and no extra spoons for the condiments. The wine list was out of date and the staff could not find my wife's favorite wine in the cellar, and the replacement was not worth the cost. The food itself was very good except for the fish course was not well balanced and the peach souffle was too sweet. We were not asked whether we wanted coffee or a selection from the dessert wine cart!
The Plumed Horse restaurant certainly lived up to it's reputation! The food was delicious and well presented, the wait staff very friendly and attentive, but unobtrusive. This was a special occasion for my sister and I and we were royally treated....getting the tour of the wine cellar at the end of dinner. The ambiance is quiet and refined, and the furnishings modern and comfortable. I would not say that it is a "kid friendly" restaurant, but that fact makes it a wonderful adult dining experience for all. If you are in the mood to taste a variety of food and wine, the chefs six course tasting menu is not to be missed. A wonderful experience all around.
This was out second experience at this beautifully renovated gem of a restaurant. The first thing that greets you is the bar area - with its cheery hearth. Then the mind-blowing wine cellar. One HAS to walk thru this sometime during your visit. The main restaurant is very tastefully done, with it's fascinating chandeliers that look like floating jelly fish, and the compelling view of the 3-story wine cellar. It's the perfect setting for fine dining.
We were particularly taken with the unique wine carafes that were being used. I had the Chef's Menu, my companion the sturgeon - both were superb. The wine equally so. I'd recommend this place in a heartbeat for anybody's special occassion dinner.
To celebrate a special occasion, we chose The Plumed Horse. It was a first time visit for us both. I am happy to report it was a terrific choice. I would describe TPH as a top tier restaurant targeted at those people who want the very best in the quality, presentation, and creativity of their food accompanied by outstanding service and an impressive wine list. Pricing was steep but in line with the quality of the total experience.
Every time we go to Plumed Horse we leave totally satiated. Despite the exorbitant price that comes with such dinners (okay, okay it's really the wine that causes the exorbitant price), we've always found the cost worth the excellent service, top notch Sommelier, and delicious food. The ambiance is gorgeous, the wine list extensive, and the waitstaff impeccable. We've always felt totally at ease with the experience...no snottiness here! :0) Super happy all around with Plumed Horse.
This was my second time dining at the Plumed Horse, and they didn't disappoint. We were surprised to have the chef's table, where we could watch all the action in the kitchen and have the chef's tasting menu. Everything was delicious! The wine recommendations were spot on. My mom had a wonderful birthday dinner that she'll remember for years. Thanks for making it special for our family! We'll be back!
The Plumed Horse was an excellent dining experience. It was perfect for the celebration of our wedding anniversary. We are both vegetarians, and were easily accommodated. Service was perfect, food well prepared, and ambience quiet and relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. If the prices were less daunting, we would have no qualms about dining there more than once a year!
WE adore going to the Plumed Horse. They are very welcoming, know my tastes (and allergies!) and are very very service oriented. We love the sleek interior and go there for special occasions. The food is unusual, delectable and very special. The chef always has a few surprises to send out throughout the meal.
Go to the Plumed Horse when you want to escape from the proletarian world, pretend you are a VIP and rich enough to be waited on hand and foot. The decor is elegant in a restrained way, and with the high ceilings, mirrors, and chandeliers that look like colorful floating sea creatures, there's a lovely spacious feeling.
Service was impeccable. We had the chef's tasting menu, which was good, but a cut below those at Manresa, Masa in SF, and Morimoto in Philadelphia. Next time I think we'll order a la carte. We had dressed up a bit, but I noticed that the other patrons were dressed more casually. The whole experience was not cheap, to say the least, but worthy of a special occasion.
Hands down the best meal I've had in years. The artful presentations were a feast for the eyes, and the food more than delivered. The flavor combinations were dancing on my tongue, with fresh, well-executed main components showcased, surrounded with subtle, creative enhancements. The chef uses innovative techniques to prepare American fare with heavy French influences. The wine pairings were also unfailingly brilliant, each playing perfectly off the food to create an entirely new taste sensation. Simply amazing.
We had an 8 PM reservation and didn't get seated until almost 9 PM. When we arrived at 7:50 PM they told us they were setting our table and to wait at the bar. We had a drink and finally at 8:30 when nobody had come to let us know the status of our table, I went back to check with the host. He said our table still wasn't ready and to go back and wait at the bar. They didn't even bother to comp us a round of drinks. When we were finally seated, we ordered the tasting menu. One of the 1st courses was the foulest oysters I'd ever had. There was so much time between the courses that at 10:30 PM we still had 3 courses left. We had to tell the server that we couldn't continue since it was so late. Not a great way to spend my husband's birthday.
Have always loved Plumed Horse but moved away for a decade, couldn't go. We had a special anniversary dinner at the restaurant; can't wait to return. PH deserves its Michelin star: stellar food food. A steady stream of canapes, an amuse bouche came out, really lovely. The star of THAT show was a mozzarella beignet, like a mouthful of heaven. We think it should go on the menu; we'd love to return for cocktails and THAT. We had the crab souffle starter -amazing--& shellfish dumplings with consomme-very good. The Kobe beef entree was perfectly prepared, so rich and fine we could barely finish. The donut for dessert-sublime. The PH is our special occasion place & we'll return often for cocktails-plus in the gorgeous renovated lounge
The chef's table was available to we were seated there. Wait staff was extremely attentive. The food was incredible. The food is fresh, perfect temperature, portions just right. The chef came to talk with us and shared his experience with a new ingredient he was preparing for future use. i can't wait to return.
I called ahead to warn that we might be 1/2 hour late for our 7:30 reservation, and we were at least that late. Fortunately there were empty tables (perhaps because it was a Monday night). We started with cocktails (my guest ordered Pisco and was disappointed they didn't have it), and then we ordered the full chef's tasting menu, with wine pairings...all of which were very good (though not as great as we expected -- is Monday the chef's night off?) The service was excellent throughout, although I suspect the staff had to stay later than usual.
