The Plough and the Stars
We have installed the most sophisticated beer system in the US, imported directly from Ireland and installed by Guinness technicians. Each pint of the 12 beers on tap is perfect.
The atmosphere created by the simple, yet powerful decor and fills a visitor to the Plough & the Stars, with an overwhelming feeling of awe and inspiration. The stage is set for an enjoyable and memorable dining experience.
Weekend nights turn the Plough into one of Old City's favorite bar scenes!
Sat outside for lunch, great service from Jen. Food was good. Chairs are comfortable and well made, easy to sit in for a long lunch break.
Great soda bread. The food is solid. There’s something for everyone. Nice vibe and comfortable neighborhood place.
Great setting with awesome food and service! Our dinner event was with colleagues from out of town who were very pleased with the experience!
Great menu selections and excellent preparation of salmon with crabmeat and pork tenderloin. Service was efficient and professional. Prices are at a price point that makes me want to return.
Thank you for a pleasant evening!
The food was acceptable, but nothing special. We were most disturbed by the poor service. Seemed like our server couldn't be bothered to do his job. Since the food was just OK, we may not return because of our waiter. Unbelievably forgetful and didn't seem to want to even take our order.
We had a great experience on St. Patrick's Day! Our waitress, Sarah, was EXCELLENT! The service, drinks, food and music were fantastic. This was a very busy day and the Plough and there staff did a wonderful job.
We were there over St. Patrick's day weekend. The place was packed! Good thing we had a reservation! Irish music, food, and ambiance was great! Service was slow, but understandable. We had a great time!
Our party had a delightful time and was a great way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. The best fish and chips that I have had.
Always a good time. Food and service were great even though St. Patrick's day festivities were in full swing.
Love this place. I have been here several times. It was loud but I expected that since it was St Patty’s weekend. I knew that going in. Love the Irish atmosphere. Looking forward to next time.
We went to see the Young Wolfe Tones. I was a little nervous about using the Open Table App, because I had never used it before, but the Plough called a week in advance to confirm our reservations and our table was ready and waiting. Service was great and we didn’t feel rushed out. Great atmosphere in this great Irish Pub.
Varied lunch menu from sandwiches to salads to entrees. Server was friendly and helpful.
Shane was an amazing waiter. So much fun, attentive and friendly waiter. Brunch selections were tasty. Fun atmosphere.
On St Patrick’s Day we opted for the traditional Irish breakfast which was very good. The ambiance was nice. Waitstaff very courteous, efficient and friendly.
Food was great but noisy - not a place for quiet conversation and catching up with old friends.
This Irish pub in Philadelphia was the perfect night out for our first time to Philly. This was our second night in town and we thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. The wine was stellar (yes, we got wine in an Irish pub...) and the Shamrock Shake cocktail was out of this world. We ordered the fish and chips and absolutely loved it! The service was excellent, the ambiance was great, and just the overall looks of this place was fantastic. If we were to come back to Philly, this would definitely be on the list.
Had a great time with friends at the establishment . Perfect night out.
I recently went to Plough and the Stars with my family for my father's 60th birthday. I made a reservation for Saturday brunch and mentioned that we would be celebrating his birthday. We arrived at the restaurant and were seated at a nice table upstairs. We were the only table up there, which was nice. Our server was attentive and friendly, and helped make recommendations when we were stuck between two options. The food and drinks were delicious (Sheppard's pie and the Angus burger were two of our favorites) and the server even brought out a little dessert for my dad once we were getting ready to close out. Overall, my brunch experience at Plough was excellent and I will definitely return!
Excellent food, Great service! For dessert, get the creme brûlée!!
I highly enjoyed my experience here. No complaints at all.
Love the Irish music on Sundays! Just like being in an Irish pub!
Another great meal! Ate pear salad topped with salmon. Hubby had salmon platter. Friends went for burger and steak frites. We enjoyed a very pleasant meal after matinee movie. Service was great!
Amazing atmosphere and food. Food was phenomenal. The wings are delicious. Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday, and we're definitely going back!
We decided to try this restaurant during restaurant week and we will definitely be back again. The service is great and the food was out of this world. The food is Irish French as best I can describe it and is fresh and very tasty.
Went for Center City Restaurant Week. The menu was exciting, and everything was delicious. You should try both of the breads they offer, one of which is sweet and the other is savory. The rest of what I got was on the special menu, but it was all delicious and overall it was an incredible experience. I would definitely recommend it, and would like to go back myself.
We visited during Restaurant Week and were pleased with the whole experience. Will definitely go again. The food, service and atmosphere were all outstanding.
Food was great but service was slow to begin with and waitstaff appeared super tired and not on top of things - had to ask repeatedly for drinks.... but it got better as time went on.
My boyfriend and I went to Plough for restaurant week and had a great time. We had three courses: an app, main course and dessert sampler. I had a great soup to start, but the the coating on the salmon was overly salty to the point that I couldn’t eat it. Once I peeled the coating off though, the salmon was perfectly cooked which was great! The dessert sampler had a great chocolate dessert and a fabulous miniature cream brûlée with baileys in it. The best part though for sure was our sweet as pie waitress. She was one of three waitresses in our area, serving us and a 75 person party!! She kept apologizing for delays, etc. but we didn’t feel anything was delayed and saw how much she was doing alone so GIRL you did great and we appreciated your constant positivity. Thanks Plough, we’ll be back!!
Service was extremely slow and our server was in lala land. Clearing some plates randomly and not clearing others..left to get us something and didn’t come back fir 15 minutes. Meal was barely warm and we couldn’t wait to get our of there. Waited forever for the check too. Have been here in the past and enjoyed it but will never go back unless it is just for drinks
Staff was very friendly and attentive. Food tasted excellent, but was lacking something (hard to identify what), and drinks were just okay.
I was so very happy to discover this restaurant. Was there with 3 others during Restaurant Week. We all totally enjoyed our meals which were very large. Since it was Restaurant Week, we expected brief menus. They were not & had to have something for every taste. Our waitress, Felicia, was the absolute best!!! she should be highly recommended to her employer!!
This restaurant was a pleasant surprise. We visited on one of our "restaurant week tour" dates and were blown away. Our server was amazing, the drinks were great and so was the food. I am on a keto diet and there were plenty of options to accommodate me. I was however tempted by the bread that came with the mussels. Great experience and will definitely return.
Awesome!!! Have the chicken curry!
Great brunch spot before visiting the Arden Theatre. Took our family of five and everyone’s meals were great and the drinks were delicious. Short walk from the theatre.
Good food and drink in this authentic little Irish Pub .
Went on New Year's Eve. Food was great and priced reasonably for New Year's Eve. The hostess and wait staff were superb!!! My group was of the older generation and when we asked the hostess if the DJ could play some Irish music plus some oldies, she went right over and asked him and he played all our requests!!!! Will definitely go back there when we visit Philly again.
We were visiting the Philadelphia area, and had a lovely meal. The soda bread was outstanding. The staff was very welcoming to all of us, including my youngest son. They were also very accommodating of special meal requests. The holiday decorations were very festive. We would definitely recommend this restaurant.
This is my first time dining out for Christmas Day dinner. We’ve been to Plough before and it’s a favorite. Christmas Day food, ambience, and service was terrific! We made a great choice.
It was great we do an annual Christmas Eve dinner and we pick somewhere different every year. We loved it
