Unfortunately I think they are in need of more waitstaff as there was a fair amount of waiting for acknowledgement/drink order. Once things got going and the drinks were finally delivered (another long wait), it was a pretty quick turn around from order to food delivery. For pre-theater there is a limited but full range menu. All four of our dinners were very good so for that reason we will return and be sure to leave enough time to enjoy our meal before the theater.
Jerry at the front desk is always such a gentleman, he makes it a pleasure to be greeted and seated. The server was very good. I really like the new menu and the expanded gluten free options, they are wonderful. The coffee is always fresh and the best!
Convenient dining option before a show. Nice view of the statehouse at night and courtyard with fountain. Good food, good service and nice cocktails.
Honestly it was pretty disappointing. The food wasn’t bad, but everything we ate needed a ton of seasoning. Our appetizer and entrees were all very bland and we had to add a ton of salt to everything. The pasta had so much sauce that it splashed on us. It wasn’t terrible but it needs work and I will likely not be returning.
We arrived at 615 to a pretty empty restaurant. When asked about why the menu was so small we were told it was due to timing so people could make it to the theatre on time. We had been told about the build your own pasta and other offerings off the usual menu and we didn’t have access to any of them. Was a let down to not be able to get the full experience.
My wife and I have dined here twice on Saturday nights in the past two months, prior to Columbus Symphony outings, between 17:30 - 19:30. The first time, there were about 12 tables seated; the second there were two tables seated. On a Saturday night. There is plenty of room. On the second occasion we tried to reserve a table at 17:30 but OpenTable didn't provide that option, making it 18:00 earliest (so we missed the CSO discussion at 19:00). The hostess had no idea why this wasn't allowed.
The view is interesting, overlooking the statehouse through the bare trees. Summertime, you are probably in an arbor.
The service has been great, no complaints : attentive, unobtrusive, and generally knowledgeable. The food arrives warm.
But as for the food.... The menu is surprisingly limited, at least for entrees. First, I really liked the sort of crusty French bread, with olive oil. We ordered Ban Bang Shrimp as appetizers, and they are tasty (and messy). My wife got the filet first time and Create Your Pasta second; I got Deconstructed Potpie and Veal Scal. She liked the rather pricey filet, but thought the pasta, while flavorful, was dry, and needed olive oil or something. I was not impressed with either of mine : the potpie was dry and just did not work as a meal (a real potpie would have been preferable), while the veal, amazingly, was tough and gristly, with a mishmash of congealed, indistinguishable parts. Later, I kept waking up to drink a lot of water.
She got a glass of wine, I an IPA, usual overpricing. The second time it cost us, tips and all, ~$85. Sorry, that's just not worth it for a BobEvansish meal. We'll find an alternative next time.
Ok, I have come to expect very little from this place, but it remains the best bet prior to a show at The Ohio Theatre!!!! The staff is always very pleasant, but not very polished. As with most hotels, the food is a bit overpriced. I suggest sticking w sandwiches vs more complicated entrees. The saddest discovery is that they no longer offer their amazing grilled cheese on their new menu--it was the best thing on the menu!
We decided to eat at the Plaza Restaurant after attending "Phantom of the Opera", next door at the Ohio Theater. Of course the location was great (close to theater) and near our room in the Sheraton. The food was very good and the wait staff were friendly, attentive, and the view of the Ohio State House was spectacular. We were very satisfied with the Plaza. In fact, we plan to eat here again in April before our next play, The King and I. I would heartily recommend the Plaza Restaurant.
Our server was very attentive. It was a very cold day and we were seated next to the fire place, it was so nice and made the lunch meeting very comfortable in addition to the great food. The Sheraton always makes a great cup of coffee.
A disappointment. Slow service. Entrees had uneven temperature suggesting rewarming. Salads were better than the entrees. Will not return.
Ate here before going to play at Ohio Theatre. Very convenient and valet parking was a plus. We were graciously welcomed by Jerry at the host desk who also seated us. Service was a little slow when there were not that many diners in the restaurant. Had the grilled cheese sandwich, which was delicious. Would definitely dine here again.
Enjoyed the food, location and view from this restaurant. Super choice for before or after theater. Lunch was quite nice with great choices and food was great. Service was good and it was not too busy.
We went for dinner before a Columbus Symphony concert at the Ohio Theatre next door, as we often do. Even though the restaurant was packed on this visit and service wasn't quite as good as usual, we were well taken care of and had plenty of time to enjoy our dinner without rushing. The food is always excellent, and our Faroe Island salmon entrees were so delicious that we are anxious to return and order them again.
Slow and poor service. Perhaps understaffed. Food was underwhelming.
Horrible. Waited over an hour never received our food. Thus dinner was bread and water. We're we prisoners?
The Plaza is a decent option if you are going to see a show at the Ohio Theatre. Valet the car at the hotel, get your ticket validated, then walk to the venue after dinner. My wife had the Filet and I had pot roast. The filet wasn't close to medium rare but we didn't have time to send it back. The roast was tasty but the veggies that accompanied it were nearly raw. The chocolate pyramid, which was touted as sharing sized, amounted to three bites each. For a Saturday night, the place was almost empty, which is fine if you crave quiet conversation. Drinks were Ok, not memorable. On the positive side, our waiter was nice and offered fine service. If I were to revisit the Plaza, I'd lower my expectations and get a sandwich and a beer.
As always, it is a pleasure to dine at the Plaza Restaurant at the Sheraton Columbus at Capitol Square. The Maitre d at the restaurant desk is such a pleasant and professional representative, always remembers me and that I need the gluten free menu, has the reservation and place settings ready and holds my chair to be seated. From there, the wait staff is great and the food is quite good. The noise level (low) is a plus so that one can have a discussion, hear it and not need to speak in raised tones to be heard. It is relaxing. The ambiance is great.
Service & food exceeded my expectations. The side salad was the best I've had in a while.
Everything was great from the greeting of the wonderful gentleman at the front desk to the end of the meal. Just two comments for the future, I ordered off of the gluten free menu, burger no bun, the burger was served on a bun. I ordered coffee (you always have great coffee) but it was really old. I changed to iced tea. Other than that, everything was great, nice and quiet to be able to discuss business.
My friends and I made reservations for dinner before seeing a play in downtown Columbus. It was the perfect location and the menu had a great variety of meal choices. We really enjoyed ourselves and didn't have to worry about driving to the theater after dinner.
The experience was average. There was an appearance that the they were not ready for the number of people being served. It seemed confusing. Did not have available a "cracker" for the crab legs served with soup. That was difficult to believe.
The worst brunch experience we have ever had, worst yet it was Mother' Day with three generations of mothers. I had booked the reservation based on being a Starwood Member and seeing the rating for the restaurant. Very dissapppointing and not surprising to see the restaurant almost empty.
First round of coffee was served cold, second "fresh" round wasn't much better. Overall, service was mediocre at best. Buffet was separated in multiple different locations with no signage and less direction from the staff. Along with that, it was a very disappointing selection for what a venue such as this would be expected.
My greatest displeasure was at $47.95(+ added cost of Blood Mary's and Mamossas) , a very poor value for what I experienced and described. When the bill arrived, there was no itemized receipt and I discovered our party of 7 was being charged for 8 buffet meals. To add, without the itemized receipt, we actually left a tip.
Fortunately, when I spoke with the manager, he took off the extra meal and the tip. For all of these reasons, I would never return to dine there or to recommend the restaurant.
This restaurant has nice views of the Ohio
Capitol and is located next door to the Ohio
Theater with parking just across the street.
The scenery and proximity to the theater
are the only reasons to eat here.
Excellent waiter and staff food came right out on time and the staff was very friendly
This was a perfect option for us to have a pleasant dinner prior going to BalletMet's Romeo and Juliet. The food was excellent, the waitress was very helpful, and the ambiance was very nice.
Many thanks to our waiter, Luc, who rolled with our requests & changes ever so effortlessly & pleasantly. Frankly, the food is not the greatest (stick with something basic like a salad or sandwich!), but it's the best spot to dine prior to going to a show at the Ohio Theatre. Excellent attention to our needs being met & the time constraint we were under. Finally, I alerted Luc that one of our party members was having a birthday. A charming platter arrived with chocolate birthday wishes, some fresh fruit, & delicious mini cupcakes. Well done, Plaza & Luc!!!
We always enjoy the quiet ambiance of the restaurant. The Maître d'hotel is the most charming gentleman, he has a knack of making you feel very welcome. The food is quite good.
Perfect choice for before going to the Ohio Theater. Quick service, hot food, very attentive staff. They validate your valet parking too! The hotel had our car waiting for us when the theater let out. Highly recommend the pork tenderloins, salmon, and the cheesecake for dessert.
Our server Shala was most courteous and very attentive throughout our meal.
While service ordinarily is OK, we had to wait 15 minutes to place a drink order after being seated. It appeared as if wait staff hadn't shown up for work. House was apologetic, but offered no specific consideration. Soup had cooled so long in the kitchen that it had a skim on top, coating on fried perch was half-cooked. Would have sent everything back, but needed to leave for the Symphony. Have had better meals there, but Saturday night was a bust.
We arrived early for a pre-theater meal and were greeted warmly and seated immediately. The service was outstanding - our server was friendly, professional and prompt. (Thank you, Matt!) Highly recommend the fabulous Parmesan-crusted Grilled Cheese Sandwich, which we both had without the bacon. I will definitely return, especially when I attend the theater!
Now my 3rd breakfast meeting I've held at this location. Food, service and quiet atmosphere has been perfect each and every time. Thank you!
WE CAME FOR DINNER BEFORE THE SHOW. ALTHOUGH THE SERVICE WAS SLOW AT FIRST ( I HAD TO FIND SOMEONE TO WAIT ON US AFTER SITTING 15 MNUTES) FROM THEN ON IT WAS GREAT. SERVICE WAS ATTENTIVE AND EFFICIENT, FOOD WAS DELICIOUS, LOVED THE AMBIANCE SITTING BY THE WINDOW .
I chose the plaza based on other reviews. It was equivalent to a bob Evans or the like. There was a man sitting near us with a baseball hat on. The restaurants charge card machine was out of order (for the 3rd day according to the waiter) so he told us before we ordered that if we didn't have cash, we could use the ATM in the lobby or we could write down all the credit card information (who would do that?) and leave it with them. We were going to the symphony, I had made a reservation at the Plaza & left my phone number. A call about the credit card failure would have been a nice head's up in my opinion. It wouldn't have been easy to find another restaurant close by on a Friday night & get to the theater on time.
Very tasty rub on the pork, great risotto, excellent bread
Server (Luke) was attentive and sensitive to our time schedule (tickets for Ohio Theatre) Also knowledgeable about wine list and able to make a recommendation
Good location for pre-concert/theater at the Ohio Theatre on the same block. Also right across from the Statehouse. Food just so-so, and gets pricey with drinks. Many of the middling wines seemed to cost as much per glass as one can buy a bottle for around town.
John the bartender/server was a delight. He made the entire meal memorable and fun. The food was delicious and the portions more than generous.
We enjoyed our meal overlooking the outdoor atrium filled with trees and white lights. We had forgotten how great the food was and how convenient it is pre-theatre.
the service was excellent!
The Plaza is our favorite place for a pre-theater dinner, especially when we are seeing something at the Ohio Theatre. Food, service and atmosphere were great, and being able to walk to the theater in only a few minutes is a real bonus.
