The Plaza Restaurant at Sheraton Columbus at Capitol Square
Located next to the Ohio Theatre, and always offering free valet parking to our patrons, it is the ideal spot to celebrate any occasion. Semi-Private Function Space is available in both the lounge and restaurant!
The waiter (Shawn according to the receipt) was terrible. We ordered a bottle of sparkling wine. Was taking forever. Eventually, he dropped it on the table and walked off. We looked at it and the bottle was already opened and partly empty. Ended up going to the host and a service manager came over. She agreed it was wrong and got us a new bottle. Also got flutes, as the first waiter dropped off red wine glasses. When I mentioned to the first waiter what he did, his response was simply “sorry, I’m busy.” Overall it was a poor dining experience.
Very attentive staff
Quiet relaxing meal
Admittedly, if we’d had know this was a Hotel restaurant at the time of reserving we wouldn’t have made them, but since we were on our way there before we figured that out, we decided to go anyway. Open Table reservation didn’t get received by the restaurant, despite receiving a confirmation, it didn’t matter however because they were empty and had plenty of room for our group, but it does concern me about other reservations in the future. Food was fair, some good some not, some orders sent back, ambiance was desolate, but it made for a good time with our group, no competing noises, making conversation easy, no need to yell or repeat ourselves. Far more expensive that it was worth.
We had tickets to a 7:30 show and thought that a 6:15 reservation would let us have time to grab dinner and drinks. We did get dinner and drinks but barely had time to finish since it took well over 30 minutes from ordering to receive the entrees. Both sandwiches were tasty but the bottom bun on the chicken was soaked and we had to flip the sandwich upside down to eat. The side Caesar salad had a very generous portion size but they were lacking any crunch (no croutons or crostini). We had to request the check and ended up having to pay in cash so that we could literally run to our show.
We dine at The Plaza often and always have a great experience. On this occasion, the food itself was delicious, but the service was so poor and inefficient that it ruined the dinner for us and, apparently, for several others who were seated in our area. There seemed to be no manager checking on the servers or the patrons, or at least not in our area, and our server was poorly trained, uninformed and not on the ball whatsoever. I won't go into details here, but suffice it to say, we will return but make sure that we don't want to have that server again. This experience was way too stressful, especially because we and most of the other diners were heading to a concert at the theater next door and needed to leave to get there before curtain.
Perfect ambience to gather with friends and have conversation.
The menu didn't offer a wide variety but the food was good. The servers were nice but we had to ask for to go boxes and a dessert menu twice and it didn't seem too busy.
While the food is delicious, do not book this restaurant if you have time constraints or are headed to a show. They do not have the kitchen capacity to handle a large number of diners between 6 pom and 8 pm. If this had been a one-off, I wouldn't be so negative, but it has now happened to our son twice in a row. We arrived at 6 pm (8 pm show). We ordered two simply Caesar salads with chicken, and a salmon filet. (There were 3 of us). Most people who arrived after us were served before us even though we ordered long before them. One table next to us finished their entire meal before we were served, even though we ordered before them. Our meal arrived at 7:30. To management's credit, they comped our meals and drinks. But I would not go there again on a theater night unless I went at 4 pm. But the food, when it came, was outstanding. Too bad my wife did not have time to finish hers.
Good food, good service. Friendly staff.
Valet parking is a plus.
The Plaza Restaurant is exceptionally convenient for events at the Ohio Theater. But it is badly in need of better management. Food that is supposed to be served hot comes out of the kitchen barely above room temperature. While the wait staff is unfailingly polite, it is sadly lacking in basic training. Once ordered, it takes forever for drinks to arrive, and often they are presented at widely different times for those at the table. Wine is presented in a short glass, not a wine glass. Beer is presented without a glass.
No one seems to care about providing a check, even long after diners have finished their meals.
The Plaza has suffered in quality over the past few years. However, the food is good as was the service. The plus that keeps us coming back is that valet parking is included. That's a terrific value if one is attending an event later that evening at the Ohio Theatre.
Much better than when I was there February 19. Could be attributed to the fact it was not busy.
Their burgers were cooked wonderful (typically we have trouble getting one that is "well done" correctly ( theirs was superb) and their sweet potato fries are so yummy ! We were dining prior to a theater event, luckily were there well in advance of the play start time as it was the slowest service I have ever had, perhaps due to a private event in the main restaurant - it took awhile to order and then 45 minutes to get our food ! Therefore we passed up on having dessert and I so wanted to try their bread pudding as it is a favorite of mine and hard to find. Also due to the private event we had to sit in the bar area which is more noisy and doesn't have the ambiance of the restaurant. Being in the bar area may also be why they seemed to not have any idea that we had a reservation - luckily there were a few tables available.
It seems that recently the service and slowness from the kitchen after ordering and when food is served has deteriorated. Haven't seen the Maitre de', Jerry, lately, he was always a special addition to the service team and structure. I hope the change is only a temporary glitch as the Plaza Restaurant at the Sheraton has always been a great place to lunch, the ambiance is such that you can actually carry on a conversation without shouting to be heard! And they have great gluten-free options.
The food was not as warm as usual. It was a busy night, but it was still not warm eniugh
They need to fix the kitchen. Worst dining experience and I seriously had high hopes. I have been here prior but they knew I was industry when dining before with hospitality colleagues. This time made a reservation for my husband and I before seeing a show at Ohio Theatre. Molly their "manager" sat us and it took about 15 minutes before our server greeted us. We then find out that they are serving a limited menu because of the show. Well we now know why - their kitchen can't handle seven tables at once. I was so disappointed because their limited menu barely has anything good on it. I asked for a glass of Cabernet and the server brings me white wine. We decided to order salads and appetizers - we asked for it all to come at once and she brings me my Caesar salad first. My salad was plain lettuce with dressing on the side. Had to get up the flag down my server to let her know I was missing half of my salad. She brings "Molly the manager" over who sad the kitchen is just forgetting things. Seriously that's how you handle this? Was so disappointed and finally the rest of our food came out and it was just blah. They didn't seem to care and blamed a lot on the kitchen. I heard the table next to us complaining as well. I had to get up to get our check - so we could make the show in time. We had been there almost two hours and just had salads and tater tots. Will never go back & will also never refer my clients here. They can't even blame it on an event going on in their ballroom. Because I saw it was some dance event that ordered in dominos pizzas. So they weren't backing up the kitchen...disappointing. Won't return ever again!
Red Dress Gala
We had reservations but the restaurant gave our table away and therefore we had to sit in a separate room. The room was not prepared for customers. The tables were not set or clean. Our waitress did the best she could but it was obvious the restaurant was not prepared for the event at the Ohio Threater that would draw a large crowd.
I thought food was fair, nothing special. My dish wasn’t quite as described (component was missing). Service was slow. Fortunately we had plenty of time
We ate there before Hamilton. We looked at the menu online before we went but when we showed up they only had a Hamilton themed menu. It was all of the high-priced items on the regular menu and basically no vegetarian options except for salad and pasta (go figure). The waitress was super slow and the food was just okay. I would go back for dessert or drinks, just because of the beautiful view of the Ohio Statehouse and proximity to the Ohio Theater, but other than that, it's not worth the money.
Very much enjoyed the food and the ease of getting to Hamilton. Everything was awesome. The place could use a little upgrade as far as chairs for sitting around in. Old and some were pretty beat up. Food was outstanding. Waitress was fantastic and so was the host.
Valentine’s Day date before Hamilton. Chose Plaza for convenience. Menu design and options were very good but food quality very disappointing- filet of lower grade and over cooked (as was broccolini and risotto). Patrons on bar side seemed satisfied so may be better pub fare option. Almost felt like room service - not bad but not fine dining either. Server did a fine job aside from serving entree a few minutes after serving salad.
Thank goodness for open table- I had called the restaurant for a reservation and they said they were not taking any more.( Hamilton Night) So I reserved one on Open Table! There were tons of tables available, their loss if they gave the same information to others. Service was so-so for so few customers, but our server was excellent for her help with the menu. They offered a limited menu for the evening offering only a salad for a vegetarian- she helped by getting a black bean burger. I think they need better management and to rethink their reservation policy and limited menu.
Had the theater menu before a show and the food was good, but even more importantly we were in and out easily to make the show. Great service.
Great place to eat before theater. Close to Ohio Theater and parking.
Attending a show at a nearby Theater. Had a selective menu based a a theme for the Show. I selected this place based on the full menu. I feel I should have been informed of the menu change.
My order was wrong and came back burnt.
Staff didn’t seem to know the new menu.
Not very responsive.
Great food. Decor a little out dated.
Kitchen needs work. Stay in Sheraton a lot and this food was sub par. Server had to spend too much time apologizing for food
Food is hotel bar food. The best thing to say is a the protein was cooked spot on.. The service was horrible. No wine menu when seated. Had to go back to the hostess stand since it took the server 15minues to get to our table.Had to ask for enough silverware and napkins. Still did bring enough. Server mixed up the wine. We asked for no dairy on the salad failed. No pickle on the burger failed. Swap chips for fries, told impossible.
Viewed menu online prior to booking a table at this restaurant. When we arrived, the restaurant was unable to pull up the reservation - but was able to quickly seat my party of 4. When we were seated, we were told that we could only order off the "theatre menu" and not off the regular menu (regardless of if we were going to a show). They said the benefit of the "theatre menu" was that the food could be prepared faster. Forty-five minutes later we received our food (two hamburgers and a chicken and pasta dish). Can't even imagine how long it would have taken to order food off the regular menu! This was at 5pm on a Friday and the restaurant had maybe 4 other tables seated at the time. It got busier when we left at 6:15, but so slow...
We chose this restaurant because I had been there with a group the week before and it was very good. The location was excellent proximity to the Ohio theater so we decided to go. They were clearly understaffed as it took a very long time to be greeted and have our order taken. They did offer a limited menu to be sure they could handle the additional traffic with Hamilton theater patrons. When our food finally arrived it was cold as though it had been waiting on a counter for at least 30 minutes. The party we were dining with received their burger too rare. Took a long time to be rectified and the same one came back unchanged. We were at risk if being late to our performance of Hamilton and left cash on the table as no bill was served. We had allowed 2 hours and 15 minutes and it was not enough time. I would not go during the busy theater time again
It took over 2.5 hours to have our dinner and only because we begged and pleaded. It took 50 minutes just to get bread. Our server was rude. The menu was a shortened menu to celebrate the Broadway show happening next door. That should have made it easier and quicker. After four attempts to get our correct check and almost being late for our show, we finally conceded to pay the check they gave us. Even though the manager saw all this happening, no attempt to correct things was made. We could not have been more disappointed with our experience. Not one apology was ever made for the horrible service. We will not be going back. They didn't even have great food to make up for lack of service. The food was just ok.
We were very sorry to learn that the complimentary valet parking was full, as that was the main reason we made the reservation. Menu pre-theater was very limited. We did not get what we ordered but took it anyhow as time was limited. It was good, however.
The host could not find my reservation. There was a limited menu due to a special event (Hamilton) at the theater nearby, which was fine, but when we asked about the signature drink we were told it was sold out. (This was the first night of the three week run!) We ordered drinks and dinner together because we were already 15 minutes past our reservation. It took about 10 minutes for our drinks to arrive and they arrived two drinks then another and then another. We had to ask about our dinner a few times because it took so long and asked for our checks before the food arrived because we were now in a time crunch. We didn’t receive our checks for about 20 minutes and barely made it to the show.
Went before Theatre. Places to eat in the area are limited.
Although the restaurant was not prepared for the number of guests it received that night, due to a miscommunication between Open Table and the restaurant (none of the Open Table reservations were received!), I have to hand it to Sunny, our server, who made sure we were taken care of well. The limited menu (we were there opening night of 'Hamilton') was still pretty varied, and we very much enjoyed our food. We had never considered this restaurant before, but will try it again the next time we're going downtown for a show. Hopefully, they will actually honor the 'free valet parking' that their website offers (again, they were NOT expecting at least 3/4 of the patrons that they had that evening - I'll give them a pass this time, as it wasn't their fault, and they did their best!).
The meal was good but nothing great. The service was poor. It is convenient for before the theater especially in the middle of the first snowstorm of the season.
Food was great (try deconstructed chicken pot pie), waitress was attentive and seemed to be enjoying her work (very nice young lady), all was clean and fresh though not new tables...all in all a nice dinner before the Symphony or a show at the Ohio Theater right next door.
The food was great kitchen was slow
Wait staff was short handed.
Overall not a bad experience.
What a disappointment! I'm not sure if the restaurant was understaffed or what the circumstances were but abysmal is the only word to describe our experience. After 20 minutes of waiting for our drinks and to give our food order, my husband finally walked up to the bar to see if they could at least provide us with some waters. We found out our drinks had been sitting at the bar for the last 15 minutes waiting on our server. I ordered pasta with pesto and received alfredo sauce instead, not daring to call out the error for fear of another 30 minutes wait for my food. A friend we were dining with received the wrong drink order and ultimately decided they would get their food elsewhere. The only time it appeared our server had a sense of urgency was when delivering the check to get us out the door. While pleasant in our interactions, she was non-existent for the majority of our time.
I will say the margaritas were great!
