The Plaza Restaurant at Sheraton Columbus at Capitol Square Ratings and Reviews
Ate here before going to play at Ohio Theatre. Very convenient and valet parking was a plus. We were graciously welcomed by Jerry at the host desk who also seated us. Service was a little slow when there were not that many diners in the restaurant. Had the grilled cheese sandwich, which was delicious. Would definitely dine here again.
We went for dinner before a Columbus Symphony concert at the Ohio Theatre next door, as we often do. Even though the restaurant was packed on this visit and service wasn't quite as good as usual, we were well taken care of and had plenty of time to enjoy our dinner without rushing. The food is always excellent, and our Faroe Island salmon entrees were so delicious that we are anxious to return and order them again.
The Plaza is a decent option if you are going to see a show at the Ohio Theatre. Valet the car at the hotel, get your ticket validated, then walk to the venue after dinner. My wife had the Filet and I had pot roast. The filet wasn't close to medium rare but we didn't have time to send it back. The roast was tasty but the veggies that accompanied it were nearly raw. The chocolate pyramid, which was touted as sharing sized, amounted to three bites each. For a Saturday night, the place was almost empty, which is fine if you crave quiet conversation. Drinks were Ok, not memorable. On the positive side, our waiter was nice and offered fine service. If I were to revisit the Plaza, I'd lower my expectations and get a sandwich and a beer.
As always, it is a pleasure to dine at the Plaza Restaurant at the Sheraton Columbus at Capitol Square. The Maitre d at the restaurant desk is such a pleasant and professional representative, always remembers me and that I need the gluten free menu, has the reservation and place settings ready and holds my chair to be seated. From there, the wait staff is great and the food is quite good. The noise level (low) is a plus so that one can have a discussion, hear it and not need to speak in raised tones to be heard. It is relaxing. The ambiance is great.
Everything was great from the greeting of the wonderful gentleman at the front desk to the end of the meal. Just two comments for the future, I ordered off of the gluten free menu, burger no bun, the burger was served on a bun. I ordered coffee (you always have great coffee) but it was really old. I changed to iced tea. Other than that, everything was great, nice and quiet to be able to discuss business.
My friends and I made reservations for dinner before seeing a play in downtown Columbus. It was the perfect location and the menu had a great variety of meal choices. We really enjoyed ourselves and didn't have to worry about driving to the theater after dinner.
The worst brunch experience we have ever had, worst yet it was Mother' Day with three generations of mothers. I had booked the reservation based on being a Starwood Member and seeing the rating for the restaurant. Very dissapppointing and not surprising to see the restaurant almost empty.
First round of coffee was served cold, second "fresh" round wasn't much better. Overall, service was mediocre at best. Buffet was separated in multiple different locations with no signage and less direction from the staff. Along with that, it was a very disappointing selection for what a venue such as this would be expected.
My greatest displeasure was at $47.95(+ added cost of Blood Mary's and Mamossas) , a very poor value for what I experienced and described. When the bill arrived, there was no itemized receipt and I discovered our party of 7 was being charged for 8 buffet meals. To add, without the itemized receipt, we actually left a tip.
Fortunately, when I spoke with the manager, he took off the extra meal and the tip. For all of these reasons, I would never return to dine there or to recommend the restaurant.
Many thanks to our waiter, Luc, who rolled with our requests & changes ever so effortlessly & pleasantly. Frankly, the food is not the greatest (stick with something basic like a salad or sandwich!), but it's the best spot to dine prior to going to a show at the Ohio Theatre. Excellent attention to our needs being met & the time constraint we were under. Finally, I alerted Luc that one of our party members was having a birthday. A charming platter arrived with chocolate birthday wishes, some fresh fruit, & delicious mini cupcakes. Well done, Plaza & Luc!!!
Perfect choice for before going to the Ohio Theater. Quick service, hot food, very attentive staff. They validate your valet parking too! The hotel had our car waiting for us when the theater let out. Highly recommend the pork tenderloins, salmon, and the cheesecake for dessert.
While service ordinarily is OK, we had to wait 15 minutes to place a drink order after being seated. It appeared as if wait staff hadn't shown up for work. House was apologetic, but offered no specific consideration. Soup had cooled so long in the kitchen that it had a skim on top, coating on fried perch was half-cooked. Would have sent everything back, but needed to leave for the Symphony. Have had better meals there, but Saturday night was a bust.
We arrived early for a pre-theater meal and were greeted warmly and seated immediately. The service was outstanding - our server was friendly, professional and prompt. (Thank you, Matt!) Highly recommend the fabulous Parmesan-crusted Grilled Cheese Sandwich, which we both had without the bacon. I will definitely return, especially when I attend the theater!
WE CAME FOR DINNER BEFORE THE SHOW. ALTHOUGH THE SERVICE WAS SLOW AT FIRST ( I HAD TO FIND SOMEONE TO WAIT ON US AFTER SITTING 15 MNUTES) FROM THEN ON IT WAS GREAT. SERVICE WAS ATTENTIVE AND EFFICIENT, FOOD WAS DELICIOUS, LOVED THE AMBIANCE SITTING BY THE WINDOW .
I chose the plaza based on other reviews. It was equivalent to a bob Evans or the like. There was a man sitting near us with a baseball hat on. The restaurants charge card machine was out of order (for the 3rd day according to the waiter) so he told us before we ordered that if we didn't have cash, we could use the ATM in the lobby or we could write down all the credit card information (who would do that?) and leave it with them. We were going to the symphony, I had made a reservation at the Plaza & left my phone number. A call about the credit card failure would have been a nice head's up in my opinion. It wouldn't have been easy to find another restaurant close by on a Friday night & get to the theater on time.
Good location for pre-concert/theater at the Ohio Theatre on the same block. Also right across from the Statehouse. Food just so-so, and gets pricey with drinks. Many of the middling wines seemed to cost as much per glass as one can buy a bottle for around town.
The ambiance was nice, but the food was horrible... Not worth what they charge. I ordered the swordfish, and it was disgusting. Over cooked and extremely fishy smelling. I didn't want to chance it so sent it back and got a salad. My husband ordered the porterhouse steak, which they charge $40 for, and he said it was horrible as well. Not worth the $$ for a dinner dining experience.
I was thoroughly impressed with the Plaza Restaurant. We went there for the Mother's Day brunch buffet. I figured it would be good, but I didn't think it would be as amazing as it was. The feel was elegant, which is an impressive feat when you think of a buffet, though I didn't feel awkward for bringing my 1 1/2 year old. The service was good and the food was excellent. The cheeses were crumbled right off of the block, the seafood was fresh, and the prime rib was so good that I had to go back for seconds. There were only two bad things in my opinion. The first was that the creme brulee cheesecake pops, which were what I was most looking forward to when we made the reservation, just weren't good. They tasted like nothing in the description. The second was the marble cake on the bread table. The breads weren't covered and when I got back to our table, I realized that the piece that I had gotten my son was stale. Overall, we definitely got overly full on delicious food. Throw in the fact that diners get free valet parking, and it's a total win. I plan on dining there again.
We have been at this restaurant through its various owners and almost always while attending a theater production at the Ohio Theatre next door. It is convenient, with decent, but not exceptional food selections, and it has a great view, and is rarely crowded. The service was above average and friendly, with various employees asking us regularly how the experience was going. Food was brought out in a timely fashion and drinks were requested and delivered in a timely fashion for the most part. The salmon was very good, though the portions were not exceptional. My wife thought the swordfish was not exceptional. Adequate beer list, but not exceptional. Wine list average. This has always been a convenient and pleasant place to dine, but has never quite reached that level of being a great restaurant, when its location could help make it that.
