This was our 4th time at this restaurant, over perhaps 6-7 years--it's now planned into a "date weekend" almost every year. The seafood is so thoughtfully prepared and delicious beyond expectation. And they thankfully give the diner filling portions at each course, so you remember what you ate! I had the crab tian as an appetizer--it was that or the daily special scallop ceviche similarly prepared. The tian was hugely satisfying! Then, the black sea bass prepared with Asian spices and supplements--again, delicious. There wasn't a drop of the fish/broth/vegs left on the plate! Our waiters were friendly and informative. A lovely evening, as hoped for and expected!
This is a lovely restaurant nestled away from the hassle and bustle of Main Street. A true gem.

Every time we eat at Doug Gulija's "Plaza" it's a special occasion to enjoy the finest seafood dishes on Long Island. The seafood Shephard's Pie is an original and well worth ordering and better eating it. Great menu of fresh seafood that is artfully presented.
The excellent and veteran food critic at Long Island's newspaper Newsday, Peter Gianotti, has judged The Plaza Cafe the best seafood restaurant on Long Island. I'd say it's the best seafood restaurant in the United States, without exaggeration. Chef and owner Doug Gulija is beyond culinary artist -- he's a culinary genius. His innovative, creative dishes are absolutely superb, extraordinary -- all of them. His shepherd's pie -- a seafood version with with lchunks of obster and shrimp -- is one of the greatest dishes ever. Going to The Plaza is a culinary experience of the first order. It's the tops. And not only is the food fantastic, so is the service.
My son turned 17 and i wanted him to experience an amazing dining experience, the plaza is it !

This place never disappoints. The food is elegant, the ambiance is casual , the service is warm and helpful (Barrie is a fantastic server) and the drinks are precisely mixed (Alex is a great bartender). The room is spacious and the fireplace gives a cozy feeling in the cold months. The menu features fresh, generally local, seafood, but the meat dishes are excellent too
the space is simply lovely and quiet enough to have a real conversation without having to shout across the table...the wait staff couldn't have been more helpful, upbeat and friendly...the presentation of all our dishes was artistic and amazing...the food was absolutely delicious. can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our experience. thank you for your thoughtfulness in all these details.
Douglas Gulija is one of the most talented chefs out there. Amazingly fresh seafood, creatively and lovingly prepared.
This is the best restaurant in Southampton. The cooking and preparations are done with great care with a wide choice of fresh fish, always an interesting meat dish and something delicious for those not interested in fish or meat. The appetizers and desserts made on premises as well as the main dishes are all of equal and outstanding quality. The wine list is extensive with wines from Croatia that are wonderful and can't be found in many places. The dining room is relaxed and quiet. On a chilly night thee is a roaring fire in the fireplace at the end of the dining room. If you like great warmth sit close otherwise get a table a little removed from the fire.
Call to see if there are specials being offered. On a Wednesday night we were offered 1/2 portion servings of appetizers and main dishes at 1/2 the regular prices. These were more than adequate followed by a fruit crisp and home made ice cream and a perfect espresso.
The food was good, but overpriced for the experience. The noise level was ridicously high and the difficult to communicate with your dinner partner. There is no atmosphere and most of the people there were over 60.
Food and service were great. 1/2 plates available at times. Pleasant, professional staff. Music a bit loud — room was not crowded this night. Expensive vs most markets.
My wife and I got a table on a quite Monday . We had a 5:30 pm table that was easily changed by the staff from 6:30. Our table was next to the fireplace, a wonderful setting. The dinning room is quaint and pleasant. Sam, our waiter very nicely covered the menu which heavily focuses on fresh local seafood. The restaurant offers half price / half size appetizers and main courses, which we highly recommend. We ordered the lobster bisque with corn, fois gras for appetizers. Both were incredible! Inspired, we ordered the 1/2 portion Panko Marlin, horse radish encrusted cod, sea bass and Shepard's pie. OMG! All incredible! Tender, flavorful and fresh. To complete to crazy good experience, dessert was a day special strawberry short cake with strawberry ice cream with caramelized strawberry slices. Mind blowing!
The chef/ owner came to our table to introduce himself. He was very engaging and open about the history of the restaurant.
In conclusion, we got a culinary experience. OUTSTANDING! Can not wait to return.

Delicious seafood with excellent service. Highly recommend the swordfish Parmesan. However, the ambiance and atmosphere do not match the food or price at all. Feels and looks like an inexpensive cafe yet the food is delicious and expensive. The restaurant misses the mark because of this. It wouldn't take too much to fix this up a bit and make it more romantic with a cozy vibe. Dim the lights, candles, nicer art, better sound absorption with curtains or rugs or ceiling pads that dampen the sound. I would go back but would love to see it fixed!
After trying all the top restaurants in Hamptons, I can easily say that this is the best restaurant in all of Hamptons.
Wish it weren't so pricey. This was our first visit but it's too expensive to make it a regular. And we live here.
This place is a great FIND ! The bland name does nothing to prepare you for the dining experience that awaits! The owner/ chef is an artist at his trade! The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Located within walking distance from the equally charming Southampton inn , I recommend this place anytime you're in town for a romantic dinner. Great atmosphere, Great food and a Great wine list. What more can you ask for in a Hampton Restaurant? I go every time I'm in town and it never disappoints. This place is a treasure you'll want to visit over and over.
Return back to the States from a long summer vacation dinner.
On average the restaurant was 'good', nothing noteworthy in terms of menu choices, frankly the menu was pretty boring.
So it was my birthday and wanted someplace delicious.....this had decent reviews but honestly the food wasn't that great. I asked my server for something light and yummy and she picked the stripped Bass and I wasn't very impressed. To ask for $52 per entree I expect really good food. This place wasn't it.

We dined for the first time this season at Plaza Cafe and were so happy that we did, even though it is on the expensive side and quite a drive. The food was wonderful! Our favorites were still on the menu and as good as ever. This quiet, calm dining room is a great place for a romantic conversation over fine food made with local ingredients, great seafood, and wonderful wines. Our server this trip, Sam, was both friendly and professional. Thank you for a great evening!
The shrimp and lobster "shepherds pie" is phenomenal. I would go back just for that one dish.
sorry for my delayed review. we dined here a couple of weeks ago for our anniversary. we have been here prior, but it has been awhile. i did note on my OT reservation that it was our anniversary, however, it was not acknowledged. our host was pleasant & professional & obliged us with our choice of a table. our waiter was attentive & pleasant. the restaurant is warm & inviting & the tables are nicely spaced. my husband had the proscuitto wrapped shrimp & risotto appetizer, both of which were delicious & cooked perfectly. i was very excited when one of the special appetizers was stuffed squash blossoms, which i adore! these were stuffed w/shrimp & lobster. i was a bit disappointed as i found the texture a tad rubbery & lacking in flavor. my husband had the shepherds pie for his entree which was flavorful & loaded with seafood. i ordered the seared sashimi grade yellowfin for my entree. i love seared tuna & order it often. it was seared perfectly & presented nicely. my first 3 or 4 slices were absolutely delicious, tender as they should be - quality tuna!! unfortunately, the remaining 3 or 4 pcs were extremely sinewy, therefore, inedible. we dine out often & i am not normally one to complain, however, i felt this needed to be mentioned so i did advise our waiter. i assumed that the chef would have been shown the tuna, when it went back to the kitchen, so he could have seen all the tendons in the uneaten slices. i must say that chef gulija is a true professional and an extremely caring & attentive chef! he spoke w/me regarding the tuna & the fact that he was surprised since he indicated that he purchases only top cuts. i am sure the problem with this portion of tuna was an oversight and not the norm. it was unfortunate that he did not see the remaining tuna. he clearly is extremely passionate about providing quality food & i was very appreciative with him personally tending to this issue and discussing it with me.
