The Plaza has been owned and operated for the past 18 years by Chef Doug Gulija. The dining room has just gone through a makeover to give it more of a relaxing/'beachy' look and a new bar menu has been added. Tucked away behind the Southampton Movie Theater and across from The Southampton Inn it offers an eclectic menu as well as an award winning wine list along with friendly, professional service by a well trained staff. Come and experience for yourselves one of the best dining experiences in the Hamptons.
it is nice to have such an excellent restaurant open during the winter in Southampton - it is a bit hidden off the main road so I think people may not be aware of it - we were there on a cold night and roaring fireplace was most inviting - it is expensive but the quality of the food is worth it - I don't eat garlic and they were most accommodating in finding the best dish to accompany my delicious cod - the house salad was excellent and large enough to share - the lobster/shrimp sheppard pie always a special treat
I have never had a bad meal at Plaza Cafe. The food is fresh, delicious and inventively prepared.
We haven't found better seafood anywhere on Long Island. And its up there with the best seafood restaurants in Manhattan. Our absolute favorite place to go with friends and family so we can hear one another.
We spent Christmas Eve at The Plaza Cafe.
The Owner Doug, is very accommodating and comes by to say hello to his diners.
Food and atmosphere is great!!!!
My husband and I go here for every special occasion. The Plaza is our favorite restaurant
Great food great chef and wait staff. Perfect.
Went as part of a package with a show at the Southampton Cultural Center. Choices included items form the regular menu so was a great value. The atmosphere is pleasant, relaxed and upscale and very comfortable. with friendly and attentive service. Well conceived dishes, although the cod, while nicely prepared , was a little dry. But overall, would highly recommend this place and will be back
The Plaza is an absolutely superb restaurant. Doug is an extraordinary chef -- a culinary artist. Every dish is a treasure. A Newsday reviewer has described The Plaza as the best seafood restaurant on Long Island -- I'd say it is the best seafood restaurant in the United States. Not only is the food out-of-this-world good, but Doug provides a special, unusual, inventive -- and super-delicious -- touch to each dish. Also, his team is great.
One of the things we've always liked about The Plaza is the fact that the tables aren't crammed in to serve as many people as possible. The wait staff is pleasant and accommodating. The full service bar has an impressive selection of wines and liquors. The wine list has a wide selection of local, regional, and international vintages. The ambiance is all about relaxed intimate dining and conversation. The tables are far enough apart to allow for a modicum of privacy for intimate conversation. The music was contemporary, smooth, and contributed to our overall enjoyment of what was a very pleasant and relaxing dining experience.
As always, The Plaza Cafe exceeded our expectations!
We went with our son and daughter-in-law to celebrate our anniversaries, everything was so delicious.
The food was excellent. The service was terrible. We were the only table that did not get bread. Or dinner plates sat for a half hour before the HOSTESS came over to clear.
Food is fabulous. Only problem is noise level too high
Truly the best restaurant on the South Fork!! The food, service, and ambience is FIVE STAR
We got the seafood shepherd's pie and the macadamia crusted i think mahi. Both were delicious but nothing was as amazing as the white chocolate cheesecake. What an amazing dessert. Glad we saved room.
Excellent food and service; charming as usual. Barri is a fun and welcoming wait staff and we are always happy to see her.
Exceptional seafood; best clam chowder I've had! Bring your appetite!
The taste of the sauces, vegetables and garnishes were rich, varied and delicious. The squid, scallops were fresh, perfectly cooked, the swordfish medium, not medium rare, not worth returning. The obvious care in the preparation in every regard makes me confident that when I make my preference known, it will be perfect. The hummus and sauce on the calamari was absolutely delicious, the sweet corn risotto for the scallops was spot on to my wife's taste, truly a product of the fresh corn ... I would have preferred it a little less so. The peas, spinach with my swordfish was excellent. One non-problem was that we both ate two rolls each, to mop our plates! The one, hardly a real, problem, was that the accompaniments tended to overwhelm the squid and the scallops when taken together. I suspect a request to partially separate them in the presentation would help, it was easy to do that with the scallops which have a lot of taste on their own, but I would like to have alternated the tender delicate squid with tastes of the extraordinary hummus. Kudos, obviously the squid chosen were very small, a welcome change from the larger ones that dominate most restaurants. You can't get this minutely picky unless the food is extraordinary. It was. We will be back and will suggest this to our summer guests.
This was our first visit to the Plaza Cafe. It was wonderful. Service was excellent. We had crab cake appetizer which was delicious. For entrees we has Lobstet and Shrimp Shepherds Pie, snapper and horseradish crusted cod. All were prepared and cooked perfectly. It was a wonderful dinner. We shred the strawberry shortcake desert again wonderful.
We will definitely be back. It was a great experience.
Tres bon repas, tres fin. Le lobster est remarquable. Belle carte de vin
Food is outstanding!
Missed waitress Barry that evening as she was off!
She is amazing!
Congratulations to chef and Owner Doug on great place!
Very enjoyable experience. Pleasant atmosphere. Food was exquisite. We had tuna, crab avocado lian for an appetizer. Could have consumed more of them!!
The salmon was cooked perfectly- so moist and full of flavor.
Grilled lobster was fantastic. Already recommended.
The shrimp and lobster shepherds pie was amazing! Apparently it is the only item that has been on the menu since the restaurant opened. It is a must try.
This is one of the best (and most underrated!) restaurants in Southampton. There’s not a lot of ambiance in the summer (though it’s really quite cozy in the winter), but the food is consistently excellent. I’ve never had a bad meal there.
What a great way to celebrate our 10th anniversary! My husband and I want to extend a huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to Chef Douglas Gulija at The Plaza Cafe for making us feel so special! He and his staff were so warm and welcoming. And the food was top notch, as always! If you haven’t been to Plaza, GO!!!
Love this restaurant. Outstanding people that run it and food a home run. Now my favorite Southampton rest.
The worst dinner I’ve ever had at plaza cafe and in the Hamptons in the last ten years. Was embarrassed I brought a friend and houseguest there for dinner.
45 minutes to get our first drink is inexcusable and not tasking a dinner order for 1 hour is as well.
It was a wonderful experience! The service was superb, the food was delicious! Don't be fooled by the casual looking front and signs, it is a luxury dining establishment!
Really enjoyed meal. Our server was incredible - knowledgeable, funny, non-intrusive. Excellent menu. All loved food and atmosphere. Not a "scene".
Great service , good food,
Creative food, using local ingredients. Great selection of both appetizers and entrees. Excellent service.
Our experience at Plaza Cafe was absolutely wonderful. The food was delicious, fresh and beautifully presented. I’ve never had crispier Bass skin in my life...just delicious.
Delicious. Lovely. Again and again. Never disappointed.
The experience was wonderful. It is over priced. Nothing was bad, but it’s too expensive.
I wanted to take an old girlfriend to something special in the hamptons as she appreciates great food so we went to the Plaza Cafe. We were both blown away by the amazing food.
I hear the restaurant might be having a major interior design update son
Great dinner. The combination of ingredients were unexpected, creative and delicious. We’ll definitely be back!
Part of me doesn't want anyone to know about this Hamptons gem because it's possibly the best food on Long Island. I'm not kidding. It's crazy more people don't come here but thats probably because it's a not a huge noisy scene because so many people go out to show off their shoes, bags and watches and not for the food. This restaurant is about the latter.
Yes, it's THAT good.
All around very enjoyable!
This is the finest seafood restaurant in the United States -- and I'd say the world! Chef/Owner Doug is a culinary genius. Every time we've dined at the Plaza through the many years I am blown away. Food does not get better on this planet. Doug's creativity, his culinary artistry is extraordinary. And his team works with Doug in perfect harmony. Now this might seem like a too positive review, an exaggeration -- it is not! The Plaza is The Best.
Yet another truly amazing dining experience,
This was our 4th time at this restaurant, over perhaps 6-7 years--it's now planned into a "date weekend" almost every year. The seafood is so thoughtfully prepared and delicious beyond expectation. And they thankfully give the diner filling portions at each course, so you remember what you ate! I had the crab tian as an appetizer--it was that or the daily special scallop ceviche similarly prepared. The tian was hugely satisfying! Then, the black sea bass prepared with Asian spices and supplements--again, delicious. There wasn't a drop of the fish/broth/vegs left on the plate! Our waiters were friendly and informative. A lovely evening, as hoped for and expected!
