Cute place, nice wine menu and food selections.
Some of the food (calamari) was bland and not crispy. The rest was good. The service was perfect. The place was agreeable.
Would have preferred to be seated in bar area. Table was close to door. Every time someone came in or out we got a blast of cold air. I’m sure not as big a deal on a warmer evening.
Server was fine. Nothing special. Menu seemed to have more variety with the appetizers than with the entrees. Wife was looking for little more offering with the fish. Only one on the menu. They did have a dish with mussels, but it included sausage. Most of entrees were some variety of meat. Food was good. Wine selection ok. I assume it’s due to the number of people who bring their own wine, though I don’t remember a corking fee.
Probably wouldn’t go back, only because there are so many places within the square in Sonoma.
I brought my 85 year old Mom to the Bistro for lunch. We had a wonderful, tasty lunch. The restaurant was very busy with several large tables of guests in the front room - where we were seated. The noise level was a bit high, but clearly people were having a good time. I frequent this restaurant as a local. I always enjoy my visits.
Four of us came to the Plaza Bistro due to the Sonoma Restaurant Week Promotion. We were delighted with our entire meal from the soup and the calamari appetizer to the Moroccan Lamb and Coriander Crusted Salmon entrees. The espresso ice cream dessert was also delicious. We will definitely return to enjoy another outstanding meal without waiting for a special ocassion.
It was restaurant week in Sonoma and they offered several very nice three course meals for $29. We had a nice table by the window and enjoyed the delicious Salmon and Lamb.
We enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Plaza Bistro. The food was excellent. The ambiance was elegant, lively, and yet serene. The service was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner experience.-Cath
Birthday Weekend in Sonoma!
Excellent restaurant. We cancelled our reservation the second night at another restaurant in the square and went back the second evening. Highly recommended, ask for a table overlooking the square.
It was a nice and sunny day so we sat outside. We had a great time people watching. We both had the salmon sandwich and the staff was perfectly happy to make substitutions on our order. We will definitely go back.
Excellent as always! I had Osso Bucco, husband had steak, and both were tender, flavorful, and beautifully executed. Started with the delicious beet salad, ended with their perfect creme brûlée and the amazing mascarpone crepes.
Our go-to spot for special occasions did not disappoint!
We've also come here for brunch and lunch and Thanksgiving-- consistently excellent food and service, and you can actually have a conversation.
Nice service. Food solidly average with smallish portions. Ambience lacking with most tables near bar, kitchen or entrance door which in winter allows for frequent blasts of cold air.
Booked at the last minute for Christmas dinner with my daughter. Pleasantly surprised the dinner was delicious with everyday menu & prices. I expected the menu prices to be high due to holiday dining but it was not. Extra kudos to Plaza Bistro for being community minded considering we are still recovering from the devastating fires of 10/2017. The atmosphere was pleasing, the waiters very attentive.
Great food - never disappoints. The atmosphere is calm and inviting. Thank you for a great Christmas Eve dinner
Super eats.wonderful lamb lollipops and shrimp.
Happy hour is delightful especially in the bad area.It's-like you are in a charmingly hotel
Have eaten at the Plaza Bistro a few times. Always good and fresh food. Service is good. Can fit for a dressy night out by sitting in the back formal dining room, or can be more casual with seating outside or in the front room. I always leave happy and never feel I have overpaid.
Come expecting a generic bar and grill and you'll be ok. Food is ok, not bad, but not memorable either. This wouldn't be my first choice, but it isn't a bad option.
GOOD SERVICE, NICE LARGE DINING ROOM IN THE BACK OF THE RESTAURANT AND GOOD FOOD.
Plaza Bistro was good, it had the misfortune of being our selection on the hottest day (110 degrees) ever. So eating was not a major endeavor, drinking was. They kept our glasses full and we were able to enjoy a nice evening with our friends.
We will certainly go there again as the food we did order, steaks, risotto and pasta were good just cumbersome.
Don't go hungry! Portions were really small, food was tasty enough. It was weird that my husband and I were the only 2 in the restaurant at 7pm on a Sunday night!
Had a disappointing meal at Plaza Bistro. Two of us had Pork Scallopini. It was ok. The accompanying spinach was very good. One of us had the New York steak. Again, ok, but not up to the price.
Service, while friendly and attentive, was sketchy; a lack of experience and training was probably the issue.
We've had decent lunches in the past. If we go back, I'll stick to the cheeseburger.
We ended up there early and they were able to seat us as soon as we got there. My friend ordered the gnocchi and I got the pork medallions. The gnocchi was so over cooked it almost melted off the fork. The pork was plain and had grainy mashed potatoes. My friend asked to change her order and got the rigatoni. The waitress was neutral about it but made it happen. The rigatoni came out and it was also so over cooked it fell off the fork. We ended up leaving very unhappy. I was shocked because of the high rating everyone gave it.
Good was delicious and service was fast and friendly!
We made a reservation and in the comments section indicated we were celebrating a special occassion. This was never acknowledged. Service was very slow and disorganized. 3 different people came to the podium and asked us the same questions about whether we had a reservation and how many in our party before we were seated. We waited for menus, then waited for water, then waited for butter, then waited to order a bottle of wine. Waiter came back and said he would bring us our wine. Why not just bring it? Food was decent but the service was so weak that there really isn't a reason to return. Dinning room is too brightly lit as well. Very disappointing!
One of our long time favorites in Sonoma. Try the duck, it's fabulous.
Excellent entrees--great flavors--chicken superb. Caesar salad was just ridiculously small, even by European standards and was $12.95. Other portions fine. Extremely spare patio with plastic sheeting surrounding--maybe the sheeting comes down in summer?
Gnocchi was amazing
The food was just OK. Pedestrian flavor, no fresh herbs, no spice. Basically a flat taste.
We really enjoyed our impromptu dinner at Plaza Bistro. Our meals were served efficiently and presented beautifully. We especially enjoyed the salads . . . wonderful combination of ingredients and tasted like they were fresh out of the garden. We also recommend the pasta dishes!
Our waiter had an attitude right from the get-go. He took at to a large room in the back, which was good because it was quiet, but since there were lots of seats in the front, this made us feel like five older ladies were not good advertising in the front. He told us before we had sat down that it could only be one check. We had not asked anything about this. He didn't listen to us when we ordered. He brought me the wrong coffee drink and one of the plates contained fries instead of salad. Two people ordered the exact same, salmon with salad and one plate was as ordered, the other was with fries. The person graciously kept it, but there was no apology for the error. He made it clear that we were not the customers he was looking for to wait on. It will be a long time before I return to The Plaza Bistro and this was the first time I had eaten there.
The Plaza Bistro is a very cute restaurant in Sonoma. We were a party of 12, our waiter was nice and friendly. We were one of the first party's to arrive but somehow we seemed to be the last to be served. Other large groups arrived, ate and then left in the time that we were there. It took almost 45 mins to get our food after it was ordered. I ordered the eggs benedict. The sauce was delish, however my eggs were practically hard boiled. :( Unfortunately most of the rest of the people in our party had some issue or another with their meals as well. Hard fried eggs when they asked for over easy, over easy eggs when they asked for hard fried, awkwardly large sausage patties when they asked for sausage links, food arriving very cold etc.
I think that this was a cute restaurant, prices were fair and the portions were good. I am not sure if they were overwhelmed or what but unfortunately the dinning experience was not what we had expected. would I eat there again? Possibly, but not with a large group.
Not my favorite meal. I guess theres a reason noone in town talks about this place.
Seafood pasta. Seafood and pasta portions were skimpy and the shrimp tasted like it died years ago.
The food and service were both great as always. I highly recommend Plaza Bistro
Very pleased with service & quality of food. We were a family & friends get-together. Everyone liked the food & ambiance. I found the restaurant online & guessed right!!! Prices were reasonable & portion sizes were perfect. Guests were from east coast & we are from SF. I've already told my friends about this place.
Great place, as usual! Awesome food, great service, great location!
A really nice brunch on Sunday. Good food, adequate and not overbearing waitstaff. Small and quiet - clearly a local vibe. Food was good, very well priced. Nothing exceptional about the food - just good value and a great way to start the day.
This was an International Women's Day lunch with an old friend. We both wore red. It was the first time be went to your restaurant. We had a lovely time and enjoyed the food, service and ambiance. Thank you.
The Bistro is a favorite of mine in Sonoma. I have some food restrictions and they're always very accommodating. Nice people, great service, consistently good food.
Skye is especially service oriented and very friendly.
This was my first time to Plaza Bistro and I invited 5 of my co-workers for lunch to start off Restaurant Week and was very disappointed to discover that the menu that was on the website was not what was presented to us. Two of my co-workers are vegetarian and there was not an option provided for them. There was one on the website but not in house. We had to leave and go to a different place to provide them with a vegetarian option. Apparently the menu on website was the one from last year. I would hope for future they make sure to update the website because this was a huge disappointment.
