About The Pirates' House

The entire family is sure to enjoy Savannah's most intriguing & historic restaurant. At the Pirates' House, our most precious treasure is the food. Situated in Trustees Garden, merely a scant block from the Savannah River, the Famous Pirates' House is the most historic spot in Georgia. The Herb House, erected in 1734, located inside the Pirates' House, is said to be the oldest house in Georgia. The Pirates' House first opened in 1753 as an inn for seafarers and fast became a meeting point for blood-thirsty pirates & sailors. Enthusiastically recommended by AAA, Food & Wine and Redbook.

Having lived in Savannah for 25 years and visiting regularly now, the Pirates House is an old favorite. But it's not what it used to be - the vibrant restaurant with unbelievable ambience and the best food in Savannah. I would recommend it now for lunch, the lunch buffet is good, or a casual dinner. On my latest visit last Sunday my friend and I were seated in one of the rooms in the old house, which we asked for. These are the rooms with character and historical significance. The service was excellent and the food was good, but not great like it was in the 60's - 90's when you went to the Pirates House for dinner to celebrate a special occasion. The tables did not have tablecloths or candles, and the music was annoyingly loud 80's rock hits. Ugh! A little soft dinner music, a candle, tablecloth, and fire in the fireplace would have been so nice, just like the old days! Like I said, it is more of a lunch place now, or casual dinner.

The place is the attraction. One of the best parts is the ample parking . And if you’ve been to Savannah you know how valuable that is. The drinks were great but the food was fair at best .

The fried green tomatoes were excellent - loved the cheese combination with them a lot! The mixed drinks were very good as well. We would definitely come back if we were in Savannah.

Made reservations for a party of 7 at 8:45. Seated by 9 with very little communication regarding why we were the only customers in the waiting area, yet didn't have a table. Server finally arrived at table by 9:10. Water by 9:15. Orders taken and bread served by 9:30. Food arrived by 9:40. They started turning lights out in adjacent rooms before 10 and appeared to want us to leave, never offering a dessert menu. Our server would disappear for extended periods of time. Some food items were good (bread, honey pecan chicken), but most lacked seasoning. Crowded, loud, cramped seating...value was poor for the quality of the meal and the overall experience. Unpleasant way to end our otherwise wonderful trip to beautiful Savannah...

My daughter and I were visiting Savanah this weekend. We read about the Pirate House and had to see it for ourselves. The food was very good. The portions were actually too big. The service was the best.

We will be sure to visit again the next time we come to town.

The Pirate House was a fantastic stop on our quick Savannah vacation. My kids (3&9) both loved hearing the stories of the history of Pirate House. They were given pirate hats and doubloons when we were seated and even the two couples across from us were jealous and asked for the hats!
The food was excellent and they are able to offer gluten free cuisine as well. I definitely recommend making reservations as walk-ins had to wait 1-1/2 hours!

My wife and I were in Savannah for quick getaway, we had a late dinner on a Monday night, the service was fantastic, and the food was phenomenal – could not ask for a better meal. Additionally, they have a “Pirate” on site who gave us a very informative tour of the restaurant as it is the oldest in the state. We enjoyed so much, we also checked out the afternoon buffet the next day prior to leaving, will make it a spot on our next trip. Don’t forget to see the upside-down stairway.

We came to Savannah for the weekend. The food was mediocre at best. The pulled pork spring roll was the tastiest part of the meal. The top floor is known to be haunted. Good place for cocktails and apps not for dinner.

Food was average to above average. The service was not very good in my opinion. The waitress told us not to ask her any questions about the specials because she wasn't listening and then after she forgot my wife's desert so we canceled it.

One of our favorite stops. We were traveling from Melbourne Fl to Atlanta and decided to take 95 instead of 75, so we could stop for lunch at the Pirates House, Definitely worth it. Don't change a thing. Buffet is beyond excellent, and grandson had one of the best, if not the best, burger with the fixings. Excellent service, food presentation, atmosphere and quality. Made a special trip to stop and it was worth it.

We were disappointed in the quality of food for the price. The ambience was neat but there was no history explained about the building. With how much history there is within that setting, unfortunately no history was explained during our dining experience.

In town just for the weekend. The ambiance is so cool. I felt like I traveled back in time. The dish I had was UNBELIEVABLE... I had the Breast of Chicken Picatta and had to come back the next night to have it again. This is one of my favorite dishes I have whenever on the menu of any restaurant and here it was by far the best I had ever tasted.

We are from Savannah, but haven't been to the Pirates House in many years. A small group of family and friends met there last weekend for my daughters 30th birthday at her request and had and outstanding experience. The food and service was great and everyone had an amazing time.

Thanks to the Pirates House Staff for their hard work.

All I can say is overrated. I read about how old it was and pirates etc...got there and it was just a seafood place. Nothing was mentioned about the history. Service was relatively slow. The food was good but not for the price. Overall fairly disappointing.

We had the pecan chicken- amazing, and huge! We split it and had the low country spring rolls as an appetizer and pecan pie for dessert- a great meal. Service was good- fast and the server was personable. Had a reservation and got seated right away!

I'm going to write this with the disclaimer that if my young children were with me i' d probably be writing a slightly different review. The wait staff was very cordial and friendly and put up with the fact that my husband had to wait nearly an hour for me alone (eating and drinking of course) as I was running late. The food was so-so, I felt like every option involved something being fried. The place could be historically worth seeing, but it was covered in cheesy, Halloween decorations; which I hope is just for the season. I could definitely see coming here with kids given the menu options and silly decor, but with all the amazing dining choices available in Savnnah, it just felt like a tourist trap. Also, the guide for the tour of the house never showed up so we didn't get to experience that.

The decor was like a Halloween skit with the ceiling covered in fake spider webs.....along with some real ones and a lot of dust. Our server was great but unfortunately the food was not. On a scale of 1-5, I give it a 3-1/2.
