About The Pirates' House

The entire family is sure to enjoy Savannah's most intriguing & historic restaurant. At the Pirates' House, our most precious treasure is the food. Situated in Trustees Garden, merely a scant block from the Savannah River, the Famous Pirates' House is the most historic spot in Georgia. The Herb House, erected in 1734, located inside the Pirates' House, is said to be the oldest house in Georgia. The Pirates' House first opened in 1753 as an inn for seafarers and fast became a meeting point for blood-thirsty pirates & sailors. Enthusiastically recommended by AAA, Food & Wine and Redbook.

Sorely disappointed. We had not been there in 10+ years, the food was mediocre and less than palatable.......the kitchen needs a change. She Crab Soup was salty the Crab Au Gratin was tasteless..........atmosphere nice.

The Pirate’s House was so much fun. We will definitely be back. There is such a rich history at this restaurant that makes it a must to stop.

Very great food. It never disappoints. The service is really good also. Just don’t sit by the cellar because they bring the tour over there.

We took the 945 reservation on New Year’s Eve.. hopefully our experience is untypical. The tour guide started by telling us he couldn’t work overtime so the tour starting at 945 was his last of the evening.... several dishes we ordered were out of stock... food was drowned in garlic butter.

We dined here on New Year's Eve. We both started with a Pirate's House Margarita, which was delicious. They bring bread to the table - biscuits and cornbread. They were hot & fresh, and SO DELICIOUS. I can't stress this enough. I could have eaten only the biscuits and been happy. I ordered the mango chili glazed salmon, which came with mashed sweet potatoes and broccolini. The salmon was cooked perfectly, and the flavor of the glaze was great. I will say that the glaze was more like a sauce on top of the salmon, less like a glaze, but it was still tasty. The mashed sweet potatoes were to die for. My boyfriend ordered the pecan fried chicken and said it was phenomenal. The biggest star would have to be the caramel cheesecake we split for dessert. Holy moly, I still have dreams about this cheesecake.
Besides the food, the atmosphere is amazing. While the restaurant is huge, it is divided into small dining rooms with just a handful of tables, so it never gets loud, and it feels intimate. It is also so cool to be in a house this old. The last time I ate here, our waiter took us around and showed us some haunted spots. This time, it was too busy being New Year's Eve to expect that, but they did still have group tours that you could join led by a pirate.
All in all, my favorite restaurant in Savannah. Highly recommend stopping here!!

Historic restaurant but mediocre food at best. Overpriced for the quality. Tour the house but eat elsewhere.

This place is a tourist trap but still good to see once. It looks like it is falling apart both outside and inside. The 2nd floor gift shop is in much better condition as it has better lighting.

Having a reservation didn't make a difference to seating. Without asking they went to seat us in a far off modern banquet room that had little character. To get there we walked past several vintage dining rooms. When we finally got there we asked to be re-seated somewhere else. They took us back to the hostess stand where they immediately came up with other options. They then took us to one of the older rooms that had several empty tables and let us choose. It was a dirty, dark, broken down room that went much better with the theme of the place.

There was a pirate there who stopped at tables to entertain the kids.

Food was mostly traditional seafood and southern fare.

Let's be honest. The Pirate's House is a tourist trap. But it can be a fun one. And it actually has good food.

We stopped for lunch, and all four in our party were pleased with their meals. The she-crab soup was as good as any in town with visible crab. The catfish po-boy came with a lightly coated, large piece of fish on a soft roll (I usually complain about too much bread on po-boys, but this was a great ratio between bread and filling). The parmesan shrimp was very flavorful with a nice serving of pasta and several shrimp. The gumbo was also a hit, although it could have been spicier or served with tobasco or hot sauce. Even the burger was an oversized, well-cooked treat.

The restaurant also offered a lunch buffet, but to be honest, it didn't look that appealing to me. But it seemed to be a hit with many other guests.

Since there is an element for tourists, be sure to take the tour or venture around on your own. There's even a second-floor gift shop if you're so inclined.

We were traveling on a family trip. First time in Savannah. The service was terrible. The server we had seemed to be in a very bad mood: irritated and very unfriendly. That really influenced our impression of the place.:(

Quick stop, recommended from our trolley tour guide. Looked like a long wait! Told by hostess an hour and a half- looked at open table and they had a 2:45 seating...it was 2:30 currently a no brainer?!? We booked it and sat right down?!? Thanks open table!! Food and service was good- we ordered buffet loved all the local flair! Great biscuits and corn bread-kids meal was plentiful we enjoyed our visit!!

The atmosphere was awesome, but for a regular family of 4 the prices are way to high. You can go to another local restaurant and get shrimp and grits for $14.95. The food is great, but way too high!

We ended up at The Pirates House because we were still hungry after our food tour, and we heard the fried chicken was good. The buffet was definitely value for money. I would just go for the friend chicken (which incidentally is better than the fried chicken served at the over-hyped Olde Pink House Restaurant). Make sure you ask for the pecan maple syrup to go with your fried chicken. And the biscuits which were served at the beginning of the meal, are out of this world!

We had reservations for 9:15 made with open table app. Waitress came at 9:20 for drinks & appetizer order. She came back 5 minutes later saying that we had to order immediately because the kitchen closes at 9:30. She then told us that dessert was completely out of the question because the kitchen was closed. That tours ended at 9:00 and the gift shop was closed. We could come back another time for a tour or to see the gift shop. We definitely did not get the whole dining experience. Very disappointing.

Pirate's House is a must lunch stop for us when we come to Savannah. Their lunch buffet is exceptional, and I don't even like buffets. They just do it right! There's is usually a crowd, and they do take reservations, although not required. Right on the trolley and bus stops, so it makes a good spot to get off the tour coach and get back on when you've finished lunch. Our only wish for improvement is for parents to control their noisy kids, but then that's not the House's fault. Just be advised, there will be families, and many of their kids are not well parented. Plenty of parking.

Fun spot that includes the oldest surviving structure in Charleston. If you love rum, as most pirates do, they have the largest selection I've ever seen. Kids will enjoy the (free) property tour with a costumed pirate. Top quality food; not the widest selection at lunch, but what they have is top notch.

This restaurant must survive on tourist who have believed the promotion. The food was so horrible! I compare it to Mrs. Wilkes for promotion only - Mrs Wilkes is excellent food, representing southern faire appropriately. This is all deception depending on an old building. A museum would be more honest.

Great evening! We took our daughter for her 13th birthday and had a wonderful time. The "Pirate" showed us around and told us many interesting stories about the facility and stories of the sailors from long ago! All 3 of my kids really enjoyed seeing the secret tunnels and hearing all about the stories from the past.
