I went to The Pinewood for a night out with friends. Everything we ate and drank was delicious. We each tried different cocktails, and I would highly recommend the Porch Punch and the Jackie O, both very fresh and easy to drink, with the perfect amount of sweetness. For appetizers, we tried grilled tots, Brussel sprouts, and cheddar hush puppies - and frankly, I could eat Brussel sprouts like that every day. For dinner I split the cheeseburger and Rainbow Trout with a friend, both of which were good, though not the best thing I have ever eaten. I did however try some of the chicken and waffles, which was pretty good. Finally, the beignets were delicious! Would absolutely recommend trying all the above, and without a doubt a visit to this wonderful restaurant.
This is the 2nd time we have been to the Pinewood (Cakes and Ale was booked). The food and service are hit and miss. This time the service was very good. The server was attentive knowledgeable and charming. We were treated very well when we came in to wait for a table. Over all service was very good to excellent.
Drinks are also very good to excellent the wine is reasonibly priced although the menu is limited.
The food was more hit or miss. Appetizers were very good we had a salad and the scallop roll.
The main selection was more miss. One main dish was way over salted (Duck Confit) the other dish (steak) was under salted. the bolognse was just right.
Finally the dessert was very good as was the dessert.
I cannot give it a super rating as you can see.
Cool 'lil spot in Decatur. Came here with some friends...I'm not big on brussel sprouts but they raved about them. The Goonies never Die drink was good. I heard there burger was rated Top 5 in Atlanta, but I think that rating is too high. The service was fast, I plan on revisiting the place.
We waited about 7-9 min at our table before we finally flagged down a server just to order a drink. We were given 2 apps to start, and about 1/2 way through those apps, our drinks finally arrived. A few min later, our entrees came. Timing was completely off, and my bourbon drink really didn't go with the trout entree. Beignets were supposed to have been good, according to the server, b/c the chef spent time in New Orleans. Haven't eaten a dry, bready, tasteless dessert like that one in a LONG time. I suggest Pinewood should work on service and attention to patrons, and please, take the boring beignets off the menu!
I met with 2 friends at 4:30 p.m. on a Wednesday afternoon to take advantage of the Pinewood's 1/2 price whiskey special and the $5 burger from 3-5 p.m. We had a fabulous time, and the burger, brussel sprouts, and scallop po-boy were all delicious. I would recommend this to anyone on a budget but still wanting gourmet-ish food and a cozy, comfortable atmosphere.
Great little restaurant in downtown Decatur with a high-quality menu. They have the best chicken and waffles dish I've ever had (this is typically a lame dish elsewhere). It was really cramped and loud, and the service was average, but we're glad we went at least once.
Really enjoyed the drinks, however was perplexed that the pappardelle and ravioli entrees were comparably priced to the new york strip steak. The food was fine - it just wasn't terribly memorable for the price. The restaurant was packed, and was really loud, so if you're looking for good conversation, be prepared to yell.
Great service. Got seated right away at Friday 7:15, friendly wait staff. Excellent drinks (really, they had me when they named a drink in honor of the Goonies). Atmosphere was fun, lively, but not too noisey. They make good use of a tiny space -- does not feel crowded. Given how many great restaurants there are in Decatur, I rate the menu good, but not great. The execution of the dishes is strong, but just not that creative. I had the chicken and waffles, wife had the trout. I would come back here again for the drinks.
Good food and drinks - service lacking. Would have ordered more drinks if waitress ever came back. Watched her come out to the dining room, do one thing, then disappear in the back for 2-3 mins. Happened over and over. Perhaps they were understaffed. Made and otherwise nice meal into a frustrating evening.
The chicken and waffle was great but if you require something sweet to add to the taste you must ask for it. It is savory with gravy not with syrup. The burger was wonderful if you are a beef eater. The drinks were fabulous.
Just eat here! If you are a lover of Crafted drinks, this is the place for you! If you are a lover of unique dishes, this is the place for you! The staff was friendly and knew a lot about the menu items (drinks included). I perfect place for a date, meet up with friends, brunch, lunch or dinner!
OK, we live in Decatur so we have been wanting to try this place. It was my wife, my 5-yr old boy, and me. Not really kid-friendly, but we knew that going in. It took a half-hour to get our first round of drinks. I just wanted to put that out there right away because that was the one big disappointment. We had reservations, arrived on time, and were seated right away. Our waitress asked what we wanted to drink, but we did not get a chance to peruse the drink menu so we asked for a little time. She gave us A LOT of time. Finally she shows up again and my wife asks what kind of vodka they use for the Moscow Mule. The waitress said she had to find out (but did not ask me what I wanted) then disappeared for what seemed to be an eternity. Finally she comes back and I told her that I felt we had been deserted. A half hour from the time we sat down we finally got our drinks. I got the Quadraphonia and it was real good. My wife got the Moscow Mule and said it was decent. We both ordered the NY strip, which was great and very reasonable. We got tator tots for our tot and he had some of our steak. They let us sub their brussels sprouts for the creamed veggies, but I think there was an up-charge. Once we got going it was a great dining experience. I had seen reviews about portions and drinks being small, but I did not find that to be the case with what we ordered. I left buzzing, fat, and happy. We'll go back but make sure to get our drink orders in early!
My wife and I love going to Pinewood. Food is superb, excellent servers and the bar is amazing. We like both sitting at a table but also the bar. Always a top place for us to enjoy in Decatur.
Meal was wonderful- chicken/waffles were savory and delicious! Drinks a bit high priced, but still good. Reservations are essential as the space is small. Really enjoyed our experience.
I can say enough how much I loved this place. I love food and if you do too, you will love this place. Everything was so properly cooked with bursting flavors. The prices of the food were reasonable. Overall I was very very satisfied with my experience.
The happy hour burger was excellent! The Tatar tots were fresh and perfectly seasoned: the margarita was my fav!
Consistently very, very good food and outstanding cocktails
Local gem. We've been going here since it opened and continue to go back. Small, cozy atmosphere with a fairly laid back vibe. Parking can be a little tough in Decatur and the food menu doesn't change too frequently so don't anticipate seeing something new every week, but with some of the best bar staff in Decatur this small local haunt is sure to please. Keep an eye out for special events (like the Van Winkle Tasting and Pairing dinner last year) and take advantage of some really cool opportunities.
We found the food to be too salty and the beef was rather fat. Otherwise, a pleasant experience.
Neighborhood restaurant. Great food very reasonable prices. I love that they did small plate choices as an option.
I have been there a few times but this last trip was disappointing. Food was great but the service was poor. Very slow and unattentive. First time I have experienced this issue but the food and bar is good.
This was a last-minute stop on Christmas eve, and we couldn't be happier! Deliciously simple salads, excellent pasta and tasty veggies ... made these two vegetarians super-happy! And we had some sort of sparkly cocktail that was amazing!
Go on a Wednesday-drinks were incredible!
Good food, good service.
I was surprised by the basic look from outside the restaurant that the food and interior would be so amazing. Really worth the drive from North Atlanta, I loved it and will return.
Diners be advised, this is a very crowded room!
The bar is full and the tables are all in a row of 2 and 4 or 6 people per row.
They cannot accommodate large crowds.
The drinks are interesting. They are measured out so accurately and served in tiny glasses. The price for these mini drinks are quite overpriced and really not much to rave about.
The food for our table of 6 was all standard. Not one person was raving about their meal.
We skipped dessert. The final comment was....This is a glorified bar.
I visited the Pinewood for the first time last week Wednesday (yes for Whiskey Wednesday). My server, my drinks, my food was AMAZING!!! The reason for the missing star... I made a 3PM reservation and my friend got there a little before I did and the server gave him a lunch menu. When I arrived 10 minutes later, she handed me a dinner menu and then told my friend she gave him the wrong menu and handed him a dinner one. When it came time to order, our server mentioned that none of the entrees would be available until 5PM and the only thing we could order was the $5 burger and the apps. Of course my friend was annoyed because he wanted the chicken and waffles but didn't want to wait 2 hours just to order it. I'm not sure if we just came at an awkward time but that's really my only complaint. Will definitely come again!
We really enjoyed last Friday night at the Pinewood. We had some cocktails at the bar while we waiting for our reservation, I'm a big fan of the Goonies Never Say Die (and of course enjoy the movie reference as well). Really pleased with the whole experience (food, drinks, ambiance, etc), we'll be back!
This was our first visit to the Pinewood. It was not horrible. It was just average. Nothing stood out. Our food was just-okay--the portions were small enough that we each ordered dessert. Our dessert was burnt. How do you burn beignets?
Our drinks were actually, pretty decent. The service was fine.
It was an average, just-okay experience. I wouldn't not recommend it. It was just, okay.
The Pinewood menu is full of delicious snacks and entrees, which make it worth visiting in itself, but when paired with the exceptional cocktails and the care that goes into crafting, it's quickly a must visit. Had a lovely evening sitting at the bar snacking and watching the bartender make drinks and chat with the customers.
There were four of us. We came from the symphony so we felt lucky to find a kitchen still open. Of course, we've been here before, and we weren't disappointed. The bar, and the bartenders are wonderful. And the food! I ordered the trout, pan fried perfectly, my companions ordered burgers. We also sampled wedges of lettuce, more than what you may have expected. We really liked the place and plan to return.
Horrible experience - I've been to amazing establishments across the New York tri- state area and I have never experienced such a poorly run restaurant!
Don't come here
Delicious dishes
It was my second time at The Pinewood and I wasn't disappointed. Both the food and the drinks were good! They don't have a huge selection but I guess this is what help them keep quality!
On a Saturday night can get very busy and reservation is recommended.
Was surprised to see that their health score was 71. We debated about leaving but stayed for drinks and appetizers (1792 old fashion - best one I've ever had and roasted Brussels sprouts were tasty).
The food at the Pinewood is excellent. We've dined here twice and had a good experience both times. We made a reservation for a Friday night and didn't have to wait one second to be seated. The service was good. My one knock on the Pinewood was the tiny portions. I'm a small female and don't have a Linebacker sized appetite. Both times we dined at the Pinewood, I felt the portions were small, especially considering the $20+ price point (for pasta and trout dishes). So after our meals were done, we ordered two desserts hoping to leave on a full stomach. In short, the Pinewood offers good food and good service, but diners may not get their fill on an appetizer and an entree.
Interesting but limited menu. Prices were a little high but not excessive. The chicken-waffle breakfast was delicious. The beignets were a great value but not the best I've had. The biscuits, despite the hype, were a disappointing and sent back. I would probably go one more time to sample other items before making a final determination but even that won't be in the near future. Too many other places to try or revisit.
Good food, good service but the noise level was a disappointment.
Simple but well-executed food menu. Nice cocktails - the bar is well-stocked with far more than your basic well and call brands. Lots of bitters, etc. We had 2 cocktails that were made well, very balanced. If you're after beers, go to Brick Store. If you want cocktails, come here. Quiet place on a Tuesday night.
Went for Sunday brunch and everything was delicious!
