The Pig Ratings and Reviews
On a recent trip down to Washington DC, we were looking for a place to get something to eat in the Dupont Circle area following a Washington Capitals game and found The Pig through Open Table. We were able to get a table for 10:30 pm which worked out perfectly with our timing. We were warmly welcomed, shown to our table, and our server did a great job of describing our choices and explaining menu items to us. Our food, which arrived quite quickly, was absolutely delicious in all respects and it was fun to try something that I normally wouldn't go anywhere near - i.e. pig brains. We never felt like we needed to rush as closing time drew closer and were able to enjoy a very nice meal in a great atmosphere with quite reasonable prices.
The food was exceptional, the service commendable, the atmosphere comfortable, and the experience always fantastic. They specialize and have perfected their pork dishes, and though I've only been on Fridays for lunch, I look forward to the day I finally get to taste the dinner menu.
From face bacon to heart tartare, the menu is adventurous and delicious. The British style black pudding is better than I have ever had back home, and the foie gras was cooked to perfection. But my favourite thing about the pig is every time I go there is something new to try, and every time it is exceptional.
I went for V day dinner with my dad. He has some food restrictions. The restaurant was more than accommodating. Even though it was a set menu, they made him his own dessert, ( a great cheese course) to fit his needs.
The food was amazing, everything tasted great. And I loved the place
I went here for their Valentine's Day menu and could not have been happier with my choice. We arrived about half an hour before our reservation and got a drink at the bar. I tried a Manhattan because bourbon seemed to be their thing. While it's not usually my favorite, I really enjoyed it and they weren't too heavy handed with the simple syrup. We were seated about 15 minutes later (still before our reservation time) and Jo cheerfully welcomed us. We had the foie gras appetizer, face bacon, hog duo and cheeks, brown butter cake and warm brioche. All were absolutely amazing (in particular the face bacon and cheeks). If you don't like pig, this isn't your place. But I will absolutely be going back.
Okay, every Valentine's Day we come here.. It was really good! The food was amazing as always, we even got a freebie Mac and cheese =). The only issue that I have.. And it's really minor and I will still continue to come here.. Is that I got a drink that I really didn't like.. Took a sip of then gave it back.. And I still had to pay for it.. Some people will think this is nitpicky and maybe it is but in the 3 times this has happened to me, I usually get the drink refunded or asked why I am sending it back with so much left. Also.. The cocktails are pretty small even as cocktails go for what you are getting.
To the credit of the place though the waitress was pretty swamped and it was pretty busy. I still give the food 5 stars and I encourage all to come here!
I love that the restaurant sources from local farms. Hence, farm to table. I went for brunch, and am definitely going back for dinner. My only disappointment was they ran out of the two main things I wanted, the liver pate and bone marrow. To be fair, it was the last seating for brunch. The brunch menu was a little smaller than I would like, but the choices were fantastic. I recommend starting with their house Bloody Mary (with bacon)!
The server was very attentive, pleasant, engaging, and entertaining. Our lunch experience was great. It was a great treat on a Friday. We will definitely come back and bring a crowd! Thank you for the three-course meal valentine special. My taste buds were very happy!
Wow! Who knew swine could be so fine! From the bacon bloody mary, to the bacon tasting board, to the pork fried churros, we were in hog heaven...no pun intended! The fresh pickles and pickled onions were a nice complement to both the drink and the pork, and the face bacon was creamy and delicious! Needless to say, we went wee-wee all the way home!
I went here during restaurant week with a couple of friends and it was everything I was hoping/needing it to be!
My favorite dish was the chili. It was amazing and pretty filling (I didn't make it to dessert). The service was excellent, and the cocktails are pretty good. I got the bacon old fashion (for bacon lovers, it's amazing).
The service is pretty fast. Make sure you make a reservation prior to going because I have seen a few people get turned away because they were fully booked!
We have gone to The Pig twice and have loved it both times. The service is attentive and knowledgeable and the food is delicious. The cocktails are superb. We took advantage off the Restaurant Week deal on our recent visit. We were going to just get one of the meals to split so we weren't overstuffed but since we couldn't decide on what to choose we got spearheaded dinners. I'm glad we did so we could try different things. The highlights were the pig tails, fried chicken and churroa. But everything was outstanding. I highly recommend checking this place out and we will definitely be back again.
I went there with my husband and two friends for restaurant week this year and last year and we are always amazed at the quality of food on the menu as well as the new things they come up with. Especially loved the churros, add it to the regular menu, please!
Two visits to The Pig has confirmed it as one of our favourites. Great menu that changes daily. Pork obviously is the star, but other options for non pig lovers. Great quality meat cooked beautifully to bring out the flavours. All dishes have been excellent. Staff are knowledgeable about both the food menu and the wine list. Highly recommended.
The Pig is conveniently located around the corner from where I live, so this visit was probably my 20th or so time (including brunches, lunches, & dinners). I don't think it's possible to have a bad dish here. The menu is consistently good and changes just enough to keep the experience fresh while not removing delicious standbys I find myself craving. I definitely recommend this restaurant to locals and visitors, but there's one thing I've noticed: timing is everything. The Pig stops serving brunch at 3 (or 3:30) PM on weekends. However, a visit at any time approaching that time will be WAY off. While the service is usually consistently good, you will feel forgotten if you arrive at any time post-1:30 PM. I totally understand a server's frustration if a party arrives for a meal 15/20 minutes before closing (or less), but an hour or an hour and a half?! Come on. This has happened multiple times to us, so now we try and get there earlier on weekends. We can do better and they can, too. Having said that, I don't think you'd be disappointed in a meal at The Pig.
First, the Hot Buttered Bourbon: y. u. m. Warm mulled apple cider, maple syrup, butter, and..... bourbon. Can it get any better? Nope, don't think so.
The food, unfortunately, was lackluster. The "pig" theme is cute and one that appeals to me on multiple levels, but the execution wasn't all that. Biscuits might have been really good had they come out hot. The "thick sliced bacon" would have been better had it been crispier, allowing some more of the fat to render, and allowing the flavors to develop more. It was almost unappetizing. The pork (suckling pig leg w/collard greens, black-eyed peas) and the schnitzel sandwich were tasty but again, not spectacular. Not sure we'll return, but certainly glad we tried it out.
Great service and the waiter even took something off our bill that we only tasted. Unique food (surprisingly not what we are used to seeing in nc!). Would suggest ordering several appetizers so you can taste multiple dishes...two appetizers would make a meal.
For New Years my friends and I decided we wanted to keep it low key and just do dinner and drinks. I booked a reservation at the PIG earlier in the month for 10 people. I had to call them twice to up that count to 13 to which they replied was no problem. For NYE, they offered 4 course menu for a very reasonable price. They were very accommodating and we had two servers which helped move everything along smoothly. The portions were perfect and everyone left feeling full but not overly stuffed. The only bummer was that the face bacon wasn't a part of the New Years menu. All in all, it was excellent!
Do yourself a favor and go to The Pig. Get in the car right now and go. I can't say enough about this amazing restaurant. The food is heavenly, and the cocktails will make you realize that you've never had a descent drink before. Honestly, I can't rave enough about this place. Go!
I've been to the Pig several times, but this time was a bit disappointing. We ordered the ham hock for 2 and it was not as crisp and flavorful as it had been in the past. The holiday drinks were a bit lackluster. Our server was a bit intrusive, but not terrible.
The real reason to go to The Pig is the food, high-end foodie without being pretentious. Many different cuisines represented, and some imaginative uses of pork like bacon pralines on a dessert. Great bar service. Not a cheap or quick meal, but excellent value for the money.....
I've become a big fan of The Pig. I've been many times for brunch (highly recommended!) and one or two times for dinner. The meals I've had have never failed to impress-- especially the bacon mac n' cheese. Amazing. The pricing is a bit high but it's worth it for a nice meal out with friends.
The service was attentive and accommodating. An entree ran out after we had placed our order and the manager made a point of apologizing and giving us an alternate entree as well as our desserts on the house. She also answered all of our questions regarding the breeds of swine used in our various dishes, this was a real treat and an education on the farm to table process. I would recommend The Pig to anyone interested in perfect pork preparation and inviting, professional service.
