I have been here several times and have never been disappointed. Well considered and creative dishes. The atmosphere is comfortable and generally fairly quiet ( a novelty in Philly!) since it is a BYOB it ends up being a reasonably priced evening out.

Went there with my wife to celebrate her birthday. It was our first time at this place, and I've chosen it based on reviews from OpenTable and Yelp. First, lets talk about ambience. There is none. The place looks more like industrial loft, and having art display of the local artist on the walls didn't make it look any better. Service - nothing bad, but nothing exceptional either. We had a bottle of white wine with us, but they had no individual ice buckets to chill it table-side (the had a large/communal bucket, similar to the one your Mom used to do hand laundry in, but who wants to ask for a bottle every time you want to refill your glass?). Food - again nothing spectacular. We had a foie gras, which was not bad, but the portion was very small for the price of $18. The muscles were just fine, but the fries was soggy and tasted like it was either baked or pan-fired. There is nothing wrong with either of those methods if potato is crispy, but it wasn't. My wife had fillet of sol and I had duck confit. Her dish, according to her, was just an OK - nothing special. My leg of duck wasn't that great - some pieces tasted like old/stale fat, which is a no-no when it comes to confit. It was served with what was called corn ravioli in the menu. Sorry, but to me it tasted as a store both frozen ravioli, which were stuffed with the sweet cheese. It might have been chief's attempt to play on salty and sweet taste contrast, but if failed - the combination didn't work for me at all. We didn't have desert, since nothing on the menu "talked" to us. In general, this restaurant's imitation of either Bibou or Will BYOB didn't work. The only common they have with those two is a fairly high priced menu. But it wasn't justified in this case. I should have known to keep my expectations low, since the sheer fact of being able to reserve a table on the short notice should have told me about this restaurant's quality, but I was fooled by the mostly positive online reviews.

Ho-hum........just another amazing meal. 4 of us feasted on house made duck prosciutto, duck rillette & pate, outstanding mussels, cold corn soup, (much more than just a) green salad, and assorted fishes. Each dish was truly excellent - fine, fresh ingredients for creative recipes that were perfectly executed and artfully presented at a relaxed & appropriate pace. Everyone who works at PH from the waitstaff to the chef/owners is highly skilled, truly concerned that you have the best possible experience, and a pleasure to be with. It's been one of our favorites since they opened!

I think I must just have had bad luck with the dishes that I ordered. Everyone else loved their food! The squid ink pasta needs Pecorino Romano or lemon or some contrasting taste. The strawberry shortcake was dry. However, my Mom said the steak was fantastic and my husband loved his vegan melange.

So glad when I checked for availability on a Friday for Saturday nite. We had a very nice table for four. Delicious appetizers were moules frites, pea and mint ravioli, and fois gras. Entrees were black bass with risotto ( unexpectedly had hot sauce on plate), bream with calamari, and two orders of some type of steak( similar to flank steaks) which were a little tough. Dessert of Nutella ice cream and strawberries, very good. Service was good , but she took off with the white wine on arrival to chill and we had to ask for it.

This is a relaxed casual little restaurant that serves great creative dishes with a French flavor. The decor is interesting and relaxed. Tables are spaced well and not jammed near others like so many other Philly restaurants. Service was professional and attentive. It's romantic and special. Feels a bit like a very nice European bistro. The entrees are beautifully and expertly prepared. The portions, especially the salads and appetizers, were generous and super tasty. The Creme Brûlée was really exceptional. I have had many in great places but this one was maybe the best ever. Prices are moderate and its BYOB. Give it a try soon; it's a special place with great food and a great vibe.

This is the second time I have eaten at the PH, this time with 3 friends who were there for the first time. They congratulated me on my choice of restaurant. Food was outstanding; we had the grilled sardines - where can you get sardines these days- and moules and frites as shared starters - delicious. Three of us ordered the lamb osso buco - melt in your mouth good and one had the venison - also wonderful. Food wise you can't go wrong here. We will be back!
And because of traffic and other circumstances two of the party were late one 20 min one 45 min yet the restaurant was very understanding and made us very comfortable about waiting for all to arrive before ordering.

I enjoyed dinner at the Pickled Heron on Sunday night. We were actually the only table being served that evening- which was shocking considering how delicious the meal was!! Our favorite dish was the duck breast served with a special cashew spinach. Also, their appetizer special, a homemade mushroom ravioli, was super light and completely delicious- loved it. We also enjoyed the cod as a second entree. There were lots of flavors within the dishes- all of the sides were unique- nothing mundane or to be expected. Really a lovely experience. The sardines were the only thing we didn't love, as they were a bit bony and not enjoyed as a result. We splurged on the chocolate cake with peanut butter ice cream- so yummy! Our waiter was very attentive and we had a very relaxing and enjoyable dining experience.

My wife and I had wanted to try the Pickled Heron for a long time, as any place recommeded by Greg Moore is bound to be good. We were happy to get to go to one of the special Moore Brothers' wine dinners here, and it was great. The food was very tasty and shined even more when paired with great wines by Greg Moore. The restaurant is cozy, and all of the staff were friendly and very good. We are looking forward to going back and trying the regular menu.

I do not believe in reviewing restaurants. I believe in enjoying a restaurant for all it has to say and then letting everyone know how wonderful the experience was. The Pickled Heron was from start to finish a culinary delight. One can tell that care and attention to the food itself is of the most importance here. The two chefs are clearly committed to keeping the food simple and flavorful. What could be better than that?

We first dined here shortly after the opening, and looked forward to watching it grow. Unfortunately, it's been stuck in neutral. An uninspiring meat heavy menu, bland seasoning, and not one veggie option. While every other neighborhood eatery was packed on this beautiful Sunday evening, TPH was empty. There's a reason for that.

I have dined here twice and the second for my birthday; the food, service and ambiance were perfect for my 49th birthday celebration. The chef hand-delivered my meal and it was spectacular. I had the Bass, which had a slightly crunchy skin and was cooked to perfection, while my son had the duck (first time) he's a 19yr old foodie and was very impressed; all in all - we had a very good experience from our entrée to desserts (we ordered 4 to try them all ) !! I would recommend; also note the price is extremely reasonable.

We enjoyed our mutual birthday dinner. The mussels were like butter. My husband had the pork tenderloin, my son had the duck, and I had the crab cake, all were delicious. We couldn't decide on dessert so ordered 3 and shared them all, carrot cake, Creme Brûlée, and a chocolate dish (I forget what it was called) loved all 3, but if I could only have one, I would get the Creme brûlée. We will be back, it was a wonderful dinner.

Although the restaurant is four years old, we somehow missed it when looking for intimate, BYO spots in Philadelphia. It was bustling--on the Saturday night before Valentine's Day the next day--so it was packed. But that did not prevent us from receiving good service. As we noted in some reviews, the first course mussels and the lobster cavatelli were both very good. As were our entrees. No issues with the quality or quantity. We'd certainly return. Worth a visit.

My wife and I celebrated Valentines Day here after making a reservation. We were turned off as soon as we interacted with the hostess. She was disinterested at best, and did nothing to provide any service (showing us the coat rack). We were also given the seat next to the door, feeling the cold weather when it opened. Our server (Mike) salvaged the night a little, but not nearly enough for me to go back.

I took my girlfriend to this restaurant for our 5 year anniversary dinner. We did not enjoy our night with the food that was served. When customers go to a restaurant, the meals that are ordered are supposed to build off one another. In our situation, the best meal received was the appetizer which was the Lobster Cavatelli. The other entrees ordered were horrible.

Duck Breast - The breast was not seasoned with salt and pepper. When serving a duck breast, there's usually a sauce on the plate to help enhance the flavor of the duck. There was nothing. Burnt Belgium waffles were served with the dish.

Grilled Shrimp - That's what it was. Shrimp that was placed on the grill with no salt or pepper. There was also two burnt olive bread pieces that came with the dish with stewed tomatoes.

I personally would never come back to this place again. Horrible experience.

We have lived in the area for about two years and have often heard about the Pickled Heron but never made our way in. We were watching Beat Bobby Flay and saw the chef on the show and decided it was time to go!

Nye, 930 seating. Great food... Great dessert. Really impressed with all dishes, our party of four had one of everything... And everyone enjoyed.

HOWEVER...

It was new years eve. The menu very clearly stated a midnight champagne toast. We coordinated our wines (byo) around the champagne toast and specifically brought none. For some odd reason, the champagne sitting in the ice buckets never made it to our table. In fact, it seemed it didn't make it to anyone's table. It did, however, appear to make it into the mouths of the staff. They were toasting with champagne back near the kitchen while we were ignored in the dining room.

I can't give low stars, the food, again, was really great. However we were all extremely confused by the champagne incident and are disappointed.

We enjoyed the food for the most part - the salad and skate were delicious. My husband ordered the beef bourguignon. He complained that it was cold and that it contained very little beef. While tasty, it was hardly satisfying. He commented to the server who neglected to mention it to the chef which my husband did do on our way out.

I took my father here to celebrate his birthday. As a former cook/chef, he is very knowledgeable about not only food quality and preparation but also service. The Pickled Heron impressed on all fronts! For starters, we enjoyed the seared foie gras and the escargot. The snails were accompanied by gnocchi in a light pesto sauce: a combination that isn't very "obvious" but came together well in terms of taste and texture. We had the duck breast and veal crepinette, which is a veal sausage cooked in caul fat. This was accompanied by a light sauce/gravy and was very flavorful. All dishes' presentations were very attractive. You can tell how much ( a lot) of care went into the planning and preparing of all the dishes. The menu is relatively small but, again, well thought out and very interesting. Service was very attentive and well-informed although we had a reservation when they first opened (5:00 PM) so, for most of the meal, had the place to ourselves. All-in-all a great experience and one that I cannot wait to enjoy again as every dish on the menu appears interesting and appetizing.

This is the sweetest restaurant located in an up & coming neighborhood as Philadelphia is developing FAST. The restaurant atmosphere is comfortable without being snobby or sterile. Being able to book on Open Table is a PLUS. Local artists show their work on the walls which lets me know that the owner cares about their community.

The food is very satisfying, attractive and delicious. And the experience staff magically materializes whenever you might needs something. Menu is interesting and well priced. It's truly a neighborhood gem that remains undiscovered.

The ambience: The restaurant made a good impression at first glance: white table cloths, friendly staff, nice crowd. A good place for a special occasion!
The food: The duck had been recommended to me by a trusted friend. I like duck; we had it at our wedding. Unfortunately I wasn't thrilled with it here. Both our entrees were slightly on the cold side. When we left, we realized that there was only one chef for the whole restaurant. That might be the reason.
