The Perfect Caper Ratings and Reviews
Waitress spoiled the evening...service not nearly on a par with when the owners were on premise...I ordered three bottles of wine...one white and two reds that I asked to be opened and decanted for our main...waitress brought the white and then announced she could only get four pours out of one bottle...my first thought was to ask her which two of my guests she didn’t intend to pour for...I have been a sommelier for many years and have never come across such a blatant and uncalled for up sell attempt...she then took our orders without any attempt at having the women at our table order first...she took all the orders but mine...even though the others were my guests it was never my intention not to eat with them...the restaurant indicates that an 18% surcharge will be added to all bills where there are parties of six or more...while standing in the parking lot our waitress rushed out to tell everyone I left no tip when I paid...when I told her I believed I had already left 18% as indicated on their website she announced that not all waitstaff follow the owners policy and she had ‘t added it....( my guess is she thought that 18% was not enough) and hoped for more...I have been to this restaurant several times in the past and went because the food is presently with care and the ingredients are excellent but mostly because I don’t mind paying for good service...good service is what makes my dining experience a special event..sadly, the quality of service since the owners have opened other restaurants and are no longer there to train staff, has deteriorated...too bad because it used to be an icon in the area...was not worth the $600 plus dining room experience any longer...
I was very pleasantly surprised dining at this restaurant. The atmosphere was quiet and very comfortable. The service was very good and the food was delicious. The staff was very friendly. I will definitely go back and bring friends with me to share and enjoy. This was the best restaurant I have eaten at in a long time.
The food at the Perfect Caper was above excellent! The appetizers as well as our entrees were delicious. The meals are a bit expensive but worth it. I wish they would extend their wine list and offer more wines, the wines are expensive. Overall I would recommend the Perfect Caper.
We love the Caper! It was a bit noisy and we were seated in an area we didn’t like. One of had to look into the bar and one sat on a chair, not a booth seat. Would have preferred different seating. Dinner was wonderful. It was my gift to my husband for his 82nd birthday.
A wonderful restaurant and they never disappoint! It quickly became our favorite restaurant. Food, staff, drinks and atmosphere all fabulous and consistently so. Fun to eat in the bar as well for a more casual experience. Highly recommend this restaurant for dining out whether a special occasion or not.
Cocktails in the bar were very done (selection is limited but do carry some premium). Enjoyed the chicken pate. The chop salad was delicious as in the past. Won’t order the steak with lobster mac & cheese again. Twice it has been served with mush for macaroni and rubber inedible lobster. Huge disappointment. The filet was well prepared but side veggies were also mush. A lamb dish was mild flavored and tender. The sausage pasta dish was basic and well prepared. The shrimp and grits were good. Will go back to filet with fingerling potatoes.
We always choose Perfect Caper for special occasions, you can always count on an excellent meal. However this sitting was extremely noisy. We were seated beside a very loud group of 6 diners and felt like we were shouting to hear our conversations. Next time I may ask for another table.
We live in PG and this restaurant has been an up and down experience for us. What disappoints is the staff doesn't seem able to deal with problems in the kitchen. Once we were offered cobia as a special, which turned to be inedible. We sent it back to the kitchen, and when the waiter, not a novice, presented the bill he pointedly announced that we had not been charged for the fish. On our most recent visit, we were with a wine expert who was unfamiliar with offerings on the wine list. The waitress and bar manager were more than willing to accommodate her tasting a number of offerings until she decided. On the other hand, the waitress was barely able to speak above a whisper, and the ordering process was difficult because we needed to ask repeatedly about the menu items. The noise level was not excessive. In previous visits we noticed that the wait staff tended to be more experienced (older). We often recognized a waiter from a previous visit. Now the wait staff appear to be inexperienced which makes it difficult to leave a normal tip, upwards of $30, for a meal for two or three. If you want to experience a restaurant in PG that has excellent food , go to the Perfect Caper. Be prepared for an exceptional experience or one that leaves you hoping for more.
We live in Naples FL and have many friends in Sarasota. This is the place we meet for dinner because the food and service is consistently very good and can please everyone who driven 50 miles to see each other. The last time was a Sunday evening early, and the restaurant was not jam backed and was quiet enough for easy conversation. We recommend the lamb chop and the chocolate dessert - but everything is very good. Since this is a special restaurant in Punta Gorda, you should make reservations.
Disappointed the table cloths are no more. The food has French flare and is very good mostly. I wish they offered some good sour dough rolls or baguette instead of dried out focascia. I suggested they put lime or lemon juice on guacamole served with lobster tacos so it does not turn brown. Those were only 2 negatives. The crab on scallops was very good as was the fish special. My husband enjoyed the mushroom pate (I prefer the chicken based). The house chop salad is good. We enjoyed sharing the gingerbread ice cream sandwich for dessert with excellent coffee. We look forward to hosting a holiday dinner there.
We have been going to the Caper for quite a few years. I have eaten at both the bar and and inside the dining room. The staff is competent and friendly. Went for our anniversary this time and can't say it was the best I have had there. We used to be regulars at the bar for drinks and dinner. Things change not as I remembered. Pricy for a weekly stop.
We like the Monday - Thursday 2 for $25 or w/ wine 2 for $35 dinners. Between the appetizer and entree it's a full meal for both my wife and myself. We think it is a very good value.
We have gone on the weekends and while the entrees have been excellent we always end up taking food home because the portions are so large.
The Caper has to be the classiest restaurant in Punta Gorda.
We always look forward to dining here on our visits to Punta Gorda. Hidden away, it is discovered more each time we dine here. So happy that they began lunch a while back. The service is great, and the food is phenominal-fresh, creative, and lovely presentations. We are more heavier luncheon diners, but the luncheon selections are as abundant as when we’ve dinner dined there. The calamari appetizer is the best we’ve ever encountered, and the Tempura prawns are huge. On this visit, I politely asked if the Tempura asparagus with the prawns could be substituted with another Tempura veggie, or skipped; it was no problem to substitute Tempura green beans, for which I was grateful. We wish Jeanne and Staff were up in our area.
As usual, a great lunch and service at the Perfect Caper. The Cracker Jack chicken was wonderful and a unique taste. Lobster Mac n' cheese great but a little sharp compared to what I'd expected; in fact, on reflection I like it more than the fare I've had in New Orleans. A great meal, though I miss the two-for-one lunch special.
