This was our second time at your restaurant and we took two friends. We especially enjoy the quiet spacious atmosphere and of course the food is always a new, different treat.
Was very disappointed in the service I didn't finish my meal and asked for to be boxed up and they threw it away received coffee and it was warm not hot. Waitress didn't offer bread we had to ask for it had to ask for the oil for the bread asked her about an item on the menu which could explain it is very disappointed in her service
Excellent dinner, enjoyable evening, creative menu. Kitchen was on point!
TIP: Use the free valet parking. Street parking is limited and metered, and the parking lots are expensive.
I'm editing this to add one caveat and anecdotal warning. You can order a dozen or half dozen oysters at slightly reduced prices, however that apparently is voided if it comprises more than one variety, in which case it will be charged ala carte. Fine, except I specifically asked and was assured by the server that it was possible to have a half dozen oysters with two varieties, so I was surprised by the higher charge on the bill. When I kindly brought the issue to the server's attention, she rebuffed me instead of inquiring with a manager. I found this to be petty, but not that big of a deal, so I simply provided feedback about the experience in a private note to the restaurant. Having received no reply, I decided to share it publicly, since I can only assume the management has no intention to addressing (or even defending) the issue.
This issue aside, it was an otherwise wonderful experience.
Second date to this restaurant, Love it!
Very casual, Host is very welcoming.
Waitress incredible... very attentive..
wonderful place with great food and service as well a great wine selection.
Excellent, I had the American Chop Suey, one of the best meals I've had.
This is the first time we ate upstairs and were concerned that the smell from the cigar bar next door would be problematic. While we did detect a slight cigar scent when first seated, once to food came it was fine. One of the best Groupons around for your prix fixe menu. We actually like the atmosphere downstairs better although the bar can get loud. We've been about ten times and have never been disappointed. Consistently professional wait staff as well, which is delightful . We definitely recommend! Have eaten with friends who have a young child and it worked out fine.
As always, everything was perfect. We started with the chef's board and oysters. Both were delicious. Our drinks and sandwiches were just as good. A great meal!
The downstairs vibe is casual so if you want to have a formal dining experience, go upstairs. The wait staff upstairs makes you feel like you are at a fine dining establishment, whereas downstairs you feel like you are at a bar. They do not serve bread with your meal downstairs, only upstairs, even if you are having the three course meal
The food is okay to pretty good, depending on what you order. Portion sizes for the appetizers, entree and dessert were large.
The servers that bring you the food are very nice.
Very nice food, ambiance and service the best from Kailie. We had the fix menu , the bone in sirloin, the tenderloin pork and the oysters and we loved it. The place it's so nice. The valet guys were so nice as well. Thanks.
We pulled up to The People's Kitchen and were informed by the vallet that he could not park our car because, "The cops are watching me." So we parked in a private lot. It was a weird start to a weird night at The People's Kitchen.
Then we entered the restaurant and were told by the hostess that the kitchen had closed due to a technical glitch. We were informed that we could still order cheese (...was that the good news?) or we could go eat at Mezcal up the street. We decided to just stay for one drink.
After having our cocktail, I had to flag down our invisible waitstaff twice to pay for our drinks. At one point, I place my wallet directly on the table and hoped that I could pay for our bill via wallet osmosis. The cocktails were good.
Now, normally I don't expect special treatment while I'm out to eat. But if you've booked reservations at a restaurant, and the kitchen is closed unexpectedly, wouldn't you offer some of that amazing cheese to your customers?
So, in closing, in our most recent visit to The People's Kitchen, we could not park our car, eat, or pay for our bill, all in a restaurant that was (not surprisingly) quite empty for a Friday night.
The best part of the story is that my date didn't want to go there in the first place because she's had similarly odd experiences each time she's gone there. Thanks to The People's Kitchen for proving her right. Again.
The chef board is the best Charcuterie and cheese in Worcestrer. However the value is only 4 star, because you cannot add additional cheese on to the chef board for a discount.
Our grandson likes to go there every year for his birthday dinner. We have never been disappointed.
Our Server was doing the best she could with the kitchen staff be short handed so we could not fault her for that. The bar and kitchen were so backed up that it was getting ridiculous waiting for our food. We had to have 3 servings of bread just to keep the hangries from coming out.
When the food did finally come it was delightful even though they ran out of soft shell crabs so I had to get the lamb skewers. The first lab skewer was over cooked and dry so I had to send it back and it was replaced with a medium rare juicy perfect skewer.
Atmosphere was good, location next to DCU was great , but food was just okay. We tried a bunch of items but nothing impressed us, not terrible, but not amazing either. Mixed drinks were bad. Stick to wines.
Another great dinner upstairs at the People's Kitchen. Highly recommend the Groupon for two for the three course dinner. Consistently Good food and service.
Filet was fabulous. Corn bread was amazing. Oysters delicious. Arugula salad was awesome, the dressing was a keeper!
We had a great experience from drinks to desserts. The menue offerings were interesting with a little bit for everyone. The server had good advice when we asked for suggestions with cheeses and drinks. The cheese and meat tray was awesome with extra dips, sauces and fruit to complete it. We had steak, veal and ravioli as entrees. Everything was delicious with attention to detail. For dessert we had chocolate, sorbet and cream brulee. The chocolate was melt in your mouth delicious, the creme brulee was appropriately rich and the sorbet was very sweet. Would definitely recommend and return.
Traditional food with creative twists. Loved it!
What a great place in Worcester! Loved the food and wine selection. Absolutely recommend the Chef's Board.
A Groupon brought us to the Citizen for the first time. The food was FAB and we will be going back!
Very accommodating! Needed a last minute place for 16 people for a post-convention meet & greet. The Executive Director and hostess were able to pull together seating on short notice on a Saturday evening (early - but nonetheless!) and a great time was had by all. Excellent food and drinks - great vibe and ambiance. Looking forward to coming back for casual meals, drinks, and get-togethers. Thanks to the whole crew at The People's Kitchen & Citizen Wine Bar!
I have been waiting to review this restaurant since I went on Thursday because it was just so good and I don't know how to sum it up. I don't think a review I give could do it justice. I went for dinner with my parents, aunt, and boyfriend to celebrate my birthday. We all got drinks to start. My wine flight was great and so were my family's/boyfriend's cocktails. We got a charcuterie and everything on it was amazing. Then we got the three course meals. We all got something different and we were all equally as pleased with our food. Personally, I got a lamb or steak skewer (I can't exactly remember what type of meat) and for dinner I got ravioli. It was all fantastic. I got angel food cake for dessert and I tried the special sundae my parents and aunt got which was amazing. My boyfriend got the chocolate board for dessert which was incredible. I cannot wait to come back to The People's Kitchen and maybe just try out the Citizen Wine Bar on it's own sometime. I did not go wrong when choosing this spot to celebrate my birthday with family!
The food was fantastic. The wine paring was also great. I cannot wait to go again!
My husband and I have been to this restaurant many times. We have brought friends and family and have recommended it highly over the last 5 years.
When we arrived, we were promptly seated and a very nice bartender took our drink order. When I explained I had purchased a Groupon , but also would also like to enjoy the charcuterie tray , he told us "no problem". He worked with us on the menu as well, and was very accommodating.
We were given the tray by a very knowledgeable staff member who explained all the different items.
A third server approached after our appetizer and asked for our entree order. We explained that we had been told we could substitute a few things but she seemed to think we could not. Our original server returned and apologized for the "miscommunication" , again assuring us this was not a problem.
My husband ordered an upgrade on his entree and there was again some difficulty with our 3rd server how to accomplish this. I tried to let her know that we had no problem paying for the extra items. I also noted our server had a gauze wrapped bandage on her right hand which she had been serving us food with. It appeared to be an intervenous saline lock, which was a bit alarming to me, as an Emergency dept. nurse. I don't think an individual who is directly handling food items should have any kind of IV access that could be a transmitter of body fluids to her customers.
Our server brought coffee which we had ordered with cream, in a tiny shot glass. After using this, I realized the liquid inside was milk, not cream. I asked for a larger container and was given an Old Fashioned glass, again filled with milk and not cream, which was not very easy to pour.
I was really disappointed with our evening and hope the management can rectify this situation. I have had many lovely experiences at this restaurant and am saddened I can no longer recommend it
I have been to The People's Kitchen &Citizen Wine Bar on two occasions and eaten both upstairs and downstairs. The wine menu is extensive and interesting, the cocktails are unique and delicious. The menu is diverse with options for all kinds of diners. I look forward to returning and trying the tasting menu with the wine pairings.
Excellent service experience. Delicious hand-crafted cocktails. Really enjoyed the arugula salad. The aged steaks are terrific. Try the cheese board! Many of the other menu choices are excellent as well. Portions are appropriate and in some cases you may even take home some leftovers. We have dined here several times and will continue to return.
It's OK but for the price point of their menu there's far better restaurants throughout Worcester.
We visited for Mother's Day and had a mixed experience. The service staff was attentive but it took two hours to get our entrees. In the end, the waitress was able to comp our appetizer "chef's board" -- which was nice. The surf-and-turf was really great but the salmon was over cooked and dry. We'll probably go again because they have a nice variety and it is an overall nice place for a family meal.
The atmosphere was great but the service was slow. We were there for Mother's Day so probably understandable. Will definitely go again.
Everything was amazeballs!
