The room and the service were outstanding but the tea and food were just ok. We were also the only party in the room for a good hour which is always a bit weird. This tea is significantly less expensive than other options near UES but it might be worth spending a little more for a better experience.

Food was quite good but service was almost completely absent – and there was only one other party at the restaurant. We had allowed plenty of time for a show after the "pre-theatre menu," but were forced to leave before we could order dessert and coffee (and we had to go out to the bar to ask for the check). Very strange. Great space – comfortable and quiet, may try again and hope that the problem with service was an anomaly.

This was my 2nd time at the Pembroke for afternoon tea service. It does not disappoint. The savories were fresh, breads were soft and moist. I do not believe they the prep their finger sandwiches very far in advance from your seating. Many other places I have been for tea do, as evident in the dryness of their breads. Their sweets are wonderful - different flavors and textures. Scones are large, come out a freshly baked, with crispy edges and soft and perfect inside - not underdone at all, and at the perfect temperature for the devon cream. Will definitely return again.

amazing space and service. we felt like we were stepping into the age of innocence, and might see Edith Wharton at a nearby table. If and when we tie the knot, this would be great for a wedding breakfast.

The service was terrible. I had to ask for my Rose.
They never put the protectors on my kettle so I would burn my hands when I poured the tea. The server never came to ask how we were doing.

The building nor the elevator are handicap accessible though they do have a ramp to bring equipment down the entry stairs as long as the person is not seated.

The sandwiches were tasty; one of each flavor per guest. Seconds were not offered. You do have a choice of scones which were warm; we were told to pick 2 out of 3 choices [plain, black currant, blueberry]. The sweets were different so you either have to cut in half to share or 'fight' over the choices.

The tea selections were wonderful. The actual tea pots were heavy and full. Considering we were the only table for a large portion of the afternoon, it would have been nice to have the waiter pour for us but he was not seen in the room.

This may be the last great afternoon tea in NYC served in high style. This is as it was 40-50 years ago, except that the tea and the food is better. The tea sandwiches are heavy on seafood, but the egg sandwich was a true standout. My only complaint is that they serve Devon double cream instead of clotted cream, but that is a quite a small point and won't stop me from returning when we are in dire need of some luxury.

This is a lovely room and the perfect place to enjoy afternoon tea. While the sandwiches were delicious, and the sweets decadent, it was the scones that truly stood out. Three versions were offered: plain, blueberry and black currant. They all had a very slight lemony flavor and were some of the best scones I have ever had. They were served warm with Devonshire cream, Welsh lemon curd, strawberry preserves and orange marmalade. Simply delicious! The selection of teas was quite large and varied. This place is a gem!

The Pembroke Room at the Lowell Hotel is an old world experience. It is like stepping into the past, a truly beautiful and elegant setting. The service was very good, the food was delicious and exactly what you would want in an afternoon tea. They were very accommodating to any requests and when we asked about the different teas our waiter was extremely helpful in describing them. There were leftovers because the offerings were generous and they packed everything up for us so beautifully and even added some tea and jam to take with us.

This restaurant offers everything you'd like in afternoon tea: lovely small bites, pretty silver and china, and an elegant room. The only thing we found mediocre was the tea itself. The service, however, was the standout. Our waiter, Steven, brought to mind an old-world, European tradition of solicitous, but never intrusive, attention. Later, as we were leaving, we asked about this accent. That question led to such an animated and interesting conversation that we wished it could have gone on longer. In the end, it was his graciousness that we will remember and that will bring us back.

Tea time! We came here for afternoon tea (an early dinner). It was fantastic. The tea finger food was spot on (especially the mini-lobster roll), the scones were very tasty without being too sweet, and the dessert course was worth the trip. The service was very attentive and did a great job accommodating my spouse's gluten sensitivity. I highly recommend the Pembroke Room for the tea experience.

Two friends and I recently visited NYC and each of us chose something special to do on the trip. I chose high tea and thoroughly researched reviews of a lot of places. I finally chose the Pembroke Room and could not have been happier with the experience. Although we were early for our reservation, we were greeted warmly and immediately seated. Steve was a wonderful waiter!!! He answered our questions and shared his expertise to help us with our selections. His attention to detail was amazing. It was a perfect way to spend our afternoon. The Pembroke Room and staff made it memorable!

I don't understand the high ratings for this tearoom. Food: sweet overload, not enough savory items, pastries tasted like something you would buy in the freezer section of a grocery store. Nothing stood out in terms of presentation or taste. The sandwiches were standard tea fare that you would find in a budget tea room. There were two of us, but only one turkey sandwich. To our server's credit, he brought another one but not until we had finished eating. Tea: we had the tea somilier's recommendation (a black tea with Versailles in the name) and a green oriental tea, both were unremarkable. Tea was not served with milk or creme, and there were no artificial sweetener options on the table. Service: our server was very kind and tried to be attentive, however he was the only person working, so it was impossible for him to serve all tables well. We ordered the tea service with champagne, but never received the champagne. He was very apolegetic and only charged us for regular tea. Despite a lovely Victorian setting, I cannot recommend The Pembroke Room for tea. It was a very disappointing experience.

Afternoon tea at Pembroke Room was very pleasant. High quality china, good selection of teas, tasty food and good service. The only thing I didn't like very much was the lack of daylight. Everything else was great and would like to visit again.

What a beautiful afternoon six of us had over tea in the Pembroke Room. Our afternoon celebration tea was, quite simply, perfect in every way. Highly recommended as the current 'best' place for tea in the most perfect of settings.

I took my long time friend to High Tea at the Pembroke room. She was so happy because she always wanted to do a tea. My children took me there for my 65th Birthday and I was over the roof because I had mentioned it in conversation, but did not think anyone was listening. They did not tell me where we were going, and I could not look at the name of the place. I was truly surprised. Everything was perfect from the food and the tea. This is a restaurant that I would recommend to everyone I know. It is truly something different to do in New York.

hands down the best, most authentic feeling, hotel tea in nyc from someone who has been to them ALL. many of the hotel teas in ny are a noisy and harried experience. The Pembroke serves beautiful, fresh pastries, delicious scones (a bit sweeter with a finer crumb than some traditional scones) and a nice selection of sandwiches in a gorgeous, intimate and quiet room. they let you linger (on my last visit we remained more than two hours on a quiet Sunday) but are attentive. the experience comes the closest to the afternoon teas i've enjoyed on visits to Ireland.

We visited the Pembroke Room for afternoon tea accompanied by an exhausted 3 year old who usually enjoys new things and restaurant dining in particular, but who was restive and tearful during our visit. Nevertheless, our servers, Mr. Charles and Mr. Vernon, went out of their way to make the experience fun for him and less stressful for his mommy and gramma. They were attentive, kind and patient beyond measure, and took care of us as if we were royalty. The tea and treats were delightful, especially the lovely scones. However, the highlights of our visit were Mr. Charles and Mr. Vernon. I cannot thank them enough.
