About The Pelican Club

The Pelican Club, offering a wide range of fabulous New Orleans dishes, consists of three dining rooms and a large bar fashioned from a handsome, 19th-century French Quarter townhouse, rising from the corner of Bienville Street and Exchange Place in the heart of the French Quarter. Owner, Richard Hughes, and his wife, Jean Stinnett-Hughes, transformed a neglected architectural gem into a welcoming restaurant decorated in a crisp blend of traditional and contemporary. Each room has its own ambiance, created with such diverse elements as burnished Louisiana cypress, contemporary paintings by New Orleans artists, antique prints, and the dramatic contrast of black-leather banquettes against cream-colored brick walls. Such an atmosphere is sure to make your meal feel like a truly New Orleans experience.

The Reveillon meal was NOT what was advertised online or in print from NOLA - either on price ( a minimum of $7 up to $12 per meal more than advertised) or on the offerings. That was a BIG disappointment as we were looking forward to particular items. The food was good, but we felt like victims of "Bait & Switch". When we brought it up we were told that there was a range on the prices listed in publicity, but that was not true at all!
We called the restaurant where we had reservations for the next night and their price and menu were exactly what they advertised. It was they who stated "bait & switch" and we agreed.

This was our third time here, and we can't believe it was even better! Everything we ate was delicious! The duck was so good that my GF took forever to eat it because she didn't want it to end. My flounder was amazing! Both dishes were full of flavor! She enjoyed her escargot and I enjoyed my baked oyster appetizer as well. I got the bourbon pecan pie and wished the piece was even bigger, and she loved her creme brulee.
Our waitresses were extremely friendly, attentive and helpful. We could not have asked for better service.
We will definitely be back!!!

The food was very good. The servers were all hurried and pre-occupied. The booth where we sat was worn out with a sagging cushion and a protruding spring which made for very uncomfortable seating.

First time eating here. Everything was delicious, the service was excellent. I had the escargot for my appetizer, and it was the highlight of my meal. Excellent. I tried the crispy flounder, a fish I have never tried, and it was delicious. They brought us champagne since we were celebrating our 25th anniversary. I will need to come back again to try more of the menu.

The Pelican Club has a good menu with enough choices to satisfy nearly every taste. Many items are unique (Korean slow cooked port ribs, whole fan fried trout). All were well prepared and reasonably priced. Desserts were also excellent. The noise level on a busy night is challenging. Also, as you venture back into the further from the entrance rooms, it gets warmer. A bit too warm for my taste. The service is professional but not quick. I found myself asking the server repeatedly for water on the busy Sunday night. The wine list is fairly deep, at least in print- several bottles I ordered were not available. They upgraded me at no extra charge so all ended up just fine with the wine. Would I go back- yes, I went three times over a 7 day period. Expect a long dinner, and enjoy it.

Though the food was good, the service was disappointing!

In all fairness, the server was overwhelmed and had too many table to take care of. Still, we waited too long to get a drink, and the service was not good. Both of my appetizers came at the same time, though I wanted one as an appetizer and one as an entree. I will not go back to this restaurant. There are too many good places in New Orleans to tolerate bad service.

The restaurant was nice to increase my original reservation by two extra diners and we were seated promptly. The restaurant was half full, when we placed our wine order. There was some confusion on who our server actually was. It took about 20 minutes to get a bottle of wine, and we were thirsty. After on getting the wine and the server straightened out, the rest of the evening was enjoyable. The food was excellent, the service was great and the wine arrived promptly after we ordered new bottles. The rack of lamb was to die for and the drum rang everyone's bell. The food spoke to us and the service recovered nicely. I wouldn't hesitate returning during my next visit to NOLA.

I think this is the best restaurant in New Orleans. The chef is not running an empire with multiple restaurants in multiple cities so is focused on one thing, a great dining experience every night. Great wines, great food and a great staff.

The wedge salad was one of the best I've had. The oyster appetizer was good but some of the oysters were very small. The escargot was not good. It was a puff pastry over escargot. There was absolutely no juice on the escargot so nothing to dip the pastry or escargot in. I would have expected a butter sauce. The drum special was bland and tasteless and was sent back. Coconut pie was good. Good wine by the glass selection and reasonable prices. Service was cordial and knowledgeable but very slow and unattentive.

We completely lucked out in finding this gem at the last minute - on a BUSY Saturday evening. We sat at the large corner table in the bar, which was quiet. We got great service and everyone was pleased with their meals from flounder to drum, lobster to steak. Would definitely recommend to others!

The Pelican Club! Is a really great place to enjoy a delicious meal. This was my very first time visiting this restaurant, and I must say it was a great choice. The food is outstanding! I had the bake oysters for an appetizer! Delicious!! I've never tasted something so good! My entree I had the rack of lamb! OMG... They had a rosemary pesto crust with this port glaze to die for. You can't go wrong. It was so delicious and so tasty. I recommend the Pelican Club! Highly! And give a rating of
10 Stars!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Let me preface this by saying I have lived in New Orleans for 10+ years. I know what quality regional food is...this is low grade food service quality fare.

I was 100% disappointed with this dining experience and was embarrassed that I chose this restaurant for a special occasion. The food was abysmal. It might be fine for a tourist with no knowledge of local cuisine.

A complete waste of $175.00 and it marred what was to be a memorable evening. Whether you live in New Orleans or are visiting and want authentic regional cuisine in an upscale setting, go to Antoine's or Galatoire's. Skip everything else.

I first ate at the Pelican Club about 5 years ago for a rehearsal dinner. The escargot is one thing I certainly have not forgotten. I was back down for a conference and the escargot was exactly as I remembered! So delicious! The ambiance is very nice and the seafood dishes are delicious.

Got a bit of a last minute reservation here after seeing great reviews while in the French Quarter. Food was great, service was slow (as is common in for large restaurants at dinner time in the FQ), it was loud but that made what could’ve felt like a stuffy restaurant feel more fun. Would recommend for a nice dinner as long as you don’t need to have quiet, intimate conversation or are in a rush.
