The Pearl Ratings and Reviews
Our server, Hanna, was so well-versed with the menu! The friend I was dining with has a severe fish allergy and Hanna was more than happy to answer all of our questions and never skipped a beat, not to mention her attention to detail in the steps of service. I always love dining here, but I just wanted to take a moment to appreciate her. She is definitely an asset!
We waited a little longer than we would have preferred for our 9:30PM reservation, but we had no trouble ordering a Moscow Mule to hold us over. Dinner was great (everything we tried from oysters to pie). Most plates are smaller portions, so plan for it. Great atmosphere. Before the ball dropped at midnight, waitstaff brought fun NYE hats, headbands, horns, etc. and a generous pour (or four) of champagne for all; pleasant surprise and fantastic way to ring in 2016!
We had never been to The Pearl, but love the short north so decided to give it a try on NYE. From the very beginning we had an awesome night. I loved the valet parking. When we checked in for our reservations we had a short (3-4 minute) wait and were offered bar service from the beginning..a nice touch. The service was impeccable. We started off with some drinks and our waiter was more than knowledgeable about the options. I loved that he said they would make me a drink and if I didn't like it they would try again. The appetizers were delicious and our entire party appreciated the menu with a range of protein options (shrimp, fish, steak, burger) and we ate them all. We didn't have room for dessert because we ate every bit of our entree. It was fabulous. We will be back!!
Had a New Year's eve dinner here with friends visiting from out of town. I've been here once before several months ago, and it was good... but this time was fantastic! The Devil's on Horseback + Jalapeno corn bread for starters, then some oysters and clams before dinner. Delicious. Entree was the Braised Short Rib and desert was the Elvis. Wow... just wow. Everything was perfect!
My girlfriend and I went to the Pearl for our one year anniversary and had a great time. Our server was great, he was attentive, but at the same time didn't bother us too much since we were having a romantic night. The food was amazing. The tastes at the Pearl are so unique, they are almost an enjoyable twist on traditional dishes. My favorite part is the ambiance. There is dim lighting and excited chit chatter. It was an amazing night at a great place.
...and add a Bloody Mary for a great dinner. I got the cheeseburger, which was recommended (at my request) by our server as her preference over the fried chicken. It was fine, but I'm glad that my friend let me try the fried chicken...this is the better choice. Our server deserves credit for supporting my interest in the Bloody Mary. I had not had one in many years...and it was excellent (spicy, not extra spicy). We shared a brown sugar slice of pie for dessert which was good, not great. Overall, a great atmosphere, great service, and very good food.
A friend came back to Columbus after being out of town for a year. When asked where he wanted to go to dinner, he didn't even hesitate. He wanted oysters from The Pearl. Sam, our server, was gracious and attentive - the food was fantastic, including a selection of four different types of oysters. As always happens at The Pearl, the entrees were amazing and after dinner coffee drinks topped a wonderful night!
My husband & I were recommended by a man at another place to come here. We loved it. Our server was Eric (EZ) and he was amazing. It is a very relaxed place...no rush to get you in and out! They allow you to take your time to order each course and eat it one at a time and have your conversation at your leisure. Eric was also great at recommendations on drinks, oysters, food...even on the show we were seeing afterwards! We will be back and will recommend to our friends and family! Thank you so much for the wonderful food and place.
Not impressed with my last trip to The Pearl. Made reservation for 8:30. Wasn't seated at a table until 9:20. What's the point of a reservation. Ordered an assortment of appetizers to share and a dozen oysters and there was nothing special about any of it. Service was good but that was about it. Sad to say, but my past trip was probably my last.
The Pearl is one of my top ten favorite restaurants in Columbus. I know when I go the Pearl I can expect a great experience with outstanding food. I absolutely adore the presentation of the deviled eggs starter. The grilled cheese with brie and jam is also delightful. Every item on the menu is superb and eclectic!
My husband & I love The Pearl. We always have a great, memorable & enjoyable time here. This is the main reason I chose it for my Birthday Brunch. Our server was very pleasant. The food, as always, was delicious and the birthday pie I ordered to go was also very good. Although we had reservations, we were not sat right away. We had to wait about 5 minutes. But other than that, everything was really nice. Highly recommend to family, friends & colleagues.
We started the dinner with the appetizer Tator Tots. Very nice, kinda reminded you of eating a mashed potato that had been deep fried. For the main course I had the hamburger. The fresh ground meat paired with the cheese and bun was superb. My wife had the shrimp and grits. It was amazing! For dessert we had the brown sugar pie. What an awesome way to end the experience! The staff was friendly and very attentive to our needs. Cameron Mitchell did a fabulous job in the creation of this restaurant!
It is very hard to find fresh oysters in land-locked Central Ohio. The Pearl delivers both quality and a good selection of fresh, raw oysters that are flown in daily (according to our server). They have small, medium and large sizes from both the East and West coast. Probably the best oyster joint in Cbus.
We had read that The Pearl was bad about getting reservations seated on time, not great at service and noisy. Instead, we were seated within minutes of our arrival (actually slightly ahead of our reservation), had a friendly, attentive and knowledgeable server and had no trouble with our conversation. But like all excellent restaurants, The Pearl is really about The Food. We started with their House Smoked salmon with a nice tartar sauce and deviled egg. The salmon is a thick piece of fillet, rather than paper thin slices. Great smokey qualities and flavor (It rivals my own.) We downed a half-dozen oysters (3 Chesapeake and three Anchor Bay), with three baked N'awlin's Style Oyster for good measure. The raw sters were fresh and briny, the baked were spicy with a cajun broth for dipping a heel of sourdough bread. For mains we had Ricotta Dumplings, Fish & Chips and pan-seared Mahi Mahi. All were amazing! Beverages were expertly mixed and reinforcements arrived quickly and efficiently.
In all my wife and daughter and I had an excellent dining experience. We had driven into town for Thanksgiving (us from Cleveland, daughter from Durham) and wanted to experience the Short North. We'll be back!
Made this reservation because I really like this restaurant. In the comments section, I included that this was for a birthday. The restaurant made no mention of the occasion or made any special effort. Totally disappointed the staff and manager didn't see this in the Open Table Coments section, and do something to make the dining experience extra special.
The food and service were outstanding, we are from New England and the clam chowder was as good as any we have had in CT, MA or ME! Decor is a throwback to an era where good food and service were the norm. Will definitely return when we are in Columbus again.
